When we look back on 2016/17 we will not only remember it for the week after week of torrential rain and storms, but more importantly as the season CPCC entered it’s first ever Girls team. The clouds cleared just enough for a senior and two junior premierships and a number of sterling performances turned in by club players. Around September last year, a group of girls registered through CPCC for the Friday night T20Blast program. The girls had so much fun we were able to form a team and enter them after Christmas into the new MWJCA Sixers girls competition held on Saturday afternoon. On 28 Jan, 2017 at a little after 2pm at Manly West Oval, the first ball was faced by a CPCC girls team. This is a significant occasion for the Club as interest in girls cricket is exploding. CPCC has a proud history of female involvement through participation in the boys teams going back to pioneers like Laele Burke, Ariel Norris and Emily Carden through to CPCC’s first international representative player in Michaela Turik.

MARIST BROTHERS CRICKET CLUB YEARBOOK 2012/13 95th Season Life Members Bob Toshak Herb Gahan Pat Leadbeatter Greg Youngberry Pat Milgate Michael J Gahan John Nielson Craig Hamshaw Stuart Fiedler Paul Gahan PRESIDENTS REPORT 2012/13 Another exciting season comes to an end, though for our members cricket was under played in the latter part due to the wet months that seem to have become the norm at this time of the year. Well done to all players this season. Congratulations to 3rd Grade for becoming Major and Minor premiers. 4th Grade were Minor premiers but just beaten in the final. 1st Grade and 2nd Grade both claimed 3rd place in the regular season, 1st grade were out played in their semi and 2nd Grade went on the win their grand final rather easy. Hooker League narrowly missed out on the finals, with a couple of close results being the difference. With the youth and their skills coming through the ranks and with the senior members I’m sure our club will continue to strive forward to be a force to watch out for in all grades for many years to come. It was also a good year off the field with the Marist Brothers annual fundraisers. The club saw a good crowd attend the dogs night, plus participation on The Les Hamshaw Memorial Bowls day. It was close on the cards but unfortunately we were defeated again, but we are getting closer to that victory. Also a new event for the club was the trivia night, which had a great response from all who attended and will hopefully become an annual event on the clubs calendar.

  • Kent County Cricketers a to Z
Kent County Cricketers A to Z Part Two 1919-1939 By Derek Carlaw Statistics by John Winnifrith This collection of biographies have been written, on behalf of the ACS, by Derek Carlaw. For those readers wishing to obtain more detailed statistical information, it is recommended that a search is undertaken on the relevant pages of the CricketArchive website ( http://cricketarchive.com/ ). Kent County Cricketers A to Z Part Two 1919 to 1939 Introduction Part Two of the Kent A to Z covers the 92 cricketers who made their entry into first-class cricket for Kent between the wars. With 12 Championship titles, 330 wins and only 49 defeats, Yorkshire dominated throughout the two decades, but Kent could reasonably claim to be the most successful of the Southern counties, twice ending runners-up and in only three seasons failing to finish in the top half of the table. During those inter-war years, cricket was becoming increasingly professional. Of the names listed in the county averages in the 1921 Wisden, over 57% were amateurs. By 1931 the figure had fallen to 41%; and in the last pre-war season it was down to 33%. Kent, in common with one or two other counties, fought hard against the prevailing trend. Throughout the period, they stuck to their long- established policy of endeavouring to field a minimum of three amateurs in every match. In practice, they were quite frequently unable to do so, especially early in the season but, of the 92 cricketers listed in the following pages, 60, i.e. over 65%, were, in the idiom of the time, ‘Gentlemen’.

Inc The Fathers of Manly Junior Cricket – Jim Randall, Les Gwynne and George Lowe – who commenced coaching classes for juniors aged between 10 and 16 in October 1933. These classes were held at Manly Oval and continued through to the 1950’s when the Manly junior Saturday morning competition was commenced. On behalf of the Manly-Warringah Junior Cricket Association, we were all deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Lachlan Muldoon, a much loved member of the Peninsula Cricket Club, on 13th October 2015 after a very brave battle with brain cancer. Lachlan loved sport as much as all 10 year olds, but he had a very special affiliation with cricket. He loved nothing more than being in the field with his mates on a Saturday or being at the nets with his father working on his game, and that is the way that he will always be remembered. Rest in Peace Lachlan Muldoon. May your edges always go for 4, and your full tosses always pick up wickets.
