MARIST BROTHERS CLUB

YEARBOOK 2012/13 95th Season Life Members

Bob Toshak Herb Gahan Pat Leadbeatter Greg Youngberry Pat Milgate Michael J Gahan John Nielson Craig Hamshaw Stuart Fiedler Paul Gahan PRESIDENTS REPORT 2012/13

Another exciting season comes to an end, though for our members cricket was under played in the latter part due to the wet months that seem to have become the norm at this time of the year. Well done to all players this season. Congratulations to 3rd Grade for becoming Major and Minor premiers. 4th Grade were Minor premiers but just beaten in the final. 1st Grade and 2nd Grade both claimed 3rd place in the regular season, 1st grade were out played in their semi and 2nd Grade went on the win their grand final rather easy.

Hooker League narrowly missed out on the finals, with a couple of close results being the difference. With the youth and their skills coming through the ranks and with the senior members I’m sure our club will continue to strive forward to be a force to watch out for in all grades for many years to come.

It was also a good year off the field with the Marist Brothers annual fundraisers. The club saw a good crowd attend the dogs night, plus participation on The Les Hamshaw Memorial Bowls day. It was close on the cards but unfortunately we were defeated again, but we are getting closer to that victory. Also a new event for the club was the trivia night, which had a great response from all who attended and will hopefully become an annual event on the clubs calendar.

This year we saw a few younger members join the executive, Brad Cleaver as Secretary of our club and the LDCA. Glen Lees continued as Treasurer and once again big thanks for head selector and player wrangler Craig Hamshaw. With the younger and more senior members working together I can see the club continue to grow.

Thanks to everyone who assisted this year either with the raffle of meat trays on a Saturday night, fundraisers and club events, every little bit helps and was good to see so many assisting and working together to get the jobs done well.

Thanks to our major club sponsor the Rous Hotel for another season, and also those businesses that sponsored our dog night. Without our sponsors our club wouldn’t be where it is and we thank you.

Hope everyone had a good summer of cricket. Hope to see you all again next season for another summer of fun and laughs with cricket and a few beers.

Yours in cricket

The LJ Hooker team this year saw Luke Collings once again take the reigns of captaincy in search of that elusive premiership. The team this year had few seasoned veterans and was notably compiled by a wealth of young new players that were willing to make their mark in the top grade. Once again the season was one of missed opportunities. Injuries and washouts saw the team finish just outside of a finals birth in 6th position (underachieving given the team we had and what we were capable of on a good day). Once again our bowlers led the way for the season with Steve, Brendo and Jake all bowling consistently well throughout the season when they weren’t injured or punching holes in walls. The young guns Nick and Blake led the way with the bat, with Nick scoring his maiden Hooker League 100, hopefully plenty more are to come and Blake averaging over 50 for the season chipping in with a memorable 60no at Oakes oval where he demolished the bowling attack of Pottsville all around the ground. A positive feature of the season was that we turned in strong performances against most teams and were competitive against 3 of the top 4 teams narrowly losing to Byron and Cudgen and having Tintenbar on the ropes before rain forced the game to be abandoned. All this being said on some occasions we failed to deliver the killer blow when on top in a game which resulted in the result going the opposite way. Despite the disappointing end to the season where rain kept us off the playing field all the boys seemed to have fun along the way and usually had a laugh here or there mostly at someone else’s expense (the news of Steve Prosser breaking his hand from punching the wall in anger) or (Luke Cleaver not being able to throw the stumps down on countless occasions even though he was 2m away). The team spirit and morale throughout the season made it that of an enjoyable team to play amongst, with there being no sweeter reward than singing the team song VICTORIOUS lead by Luke Collings when we won. Cheers for the great season guys and hopefully next year will be the year of the Brethren. Luke Collings- Luke once again took over the reigns of captaincy for this season and was ready lead the team to success and lead from the front. Unfortunately for Luke no one told Ballina this as he was dismissed for a golden duck in the first game of the season. However from here things could only go up for Luke as he made runs consistently throughout the season and the ball seemed to follow him in the field as to take numerous catches whether he be keeping or in the outfield. Luke’s highlight of the season would have to be his innings against Pottsville in which he made 94 falling just 6 shy of a 100. Luke’s low of the season perhaps happened off the cricket field after Craig Hamshaw’s 50th where Luke thought that he was a security guard at the One and tried to pick a fight with a girl for pushing in front of him. All in all Luke had a solid season and led the team in everything he did whether it be on the field captaining or after winning a game singing the team song VICTORIOUS. Still hasn’t done anything stupid enough to warrant a nickname. Luke ‘Little Dick’ Cleaver- Luke returned to play for the Brethren this year after a few years away from the club. Luke always put in 100% into everything he did on a cricket field whether it be leading the warm up or just being a pest up under the grill of opposition batsman. He perhaps needs to calm down and take a relaxant before a game and not a V as he usually did and needs to work on his throwing accuracy. Luke’s highlight of the season would either be his knock of 80 against Cudgen or taking 3 catches in close in one game after fielding there all year with hardly any going to him. Luke’s low would definitely be his inability to hit a stationary object from 2m away on countless occasions. Brad ‘STFU’ Cleaver- Brad made the step up this year from 1st grade to Hooker league and was willing to impress. Brads form throughout the season was consistent, however failed to go on with starts with the bat. Brads constant dribble and trash talk throughout the year was evident with opposition batsmen and more often than not teammates just wanting him to STFU, especially Brendo. Brads highlight of the year was that he hit a six in the season and his older brother Luke didn’t. Brads low was that he struggled to find the gap between keeper and 1st slip in which he scores most his runs on a regular occasion. Nick ‘Big Dog’ DeGuisti- Nick had a season to remember with the bat and one to forget with the ball. Nick held the middle order together at times throughout the season and looked nearly as comfortable as opposition batsmen did facing his own bowling. Nick’s one dimensional batting style of smashing boundries was appreciated by the team particularly Stu as it saved him running. Nick also contributed in the field making hard catches look easy in the slips. Nick has a lot of talent and we look forward to see this talent proper in the next few seasons. Nicks highlight of the season was his maiden 100 that he made against Murbah leading us to an outright victory. Nicks low would have to be getting the ‘yips’ with his bowling and having Myles McDowell smack him for 4 or 5 big sixes. Stu ‘Stumo, Disco, Hagrid, The big man, etc.’Rose- The man of a thousand nicknames one less than Pat Flaherty. Stu was injured for the first part of the season and missed the opening few rounds, however when he made his comeback it was like watching the Stu of old smash the ball around the park. Stu was great to watch in the field throwing himself around and on one occasion drawing blood. His highlight of the season was his 50 against Lennox where it looked like he was just tapping the ball and it was clearing the boundry by miles. Stu’s low would be a toss up of either his drunk antics on the trivia night where he held the bar up or getting hit in the head and having to retire hurt, and then having to do a TV interview with a black eye and hung-over. Classic Stu. Sam ‘Slamming Sam’ Reading- Sam’s season was one of which that was interrupted. Sam was in and out of the team either due to rep commitments or a broken finger which failed to heal. When Sam did play however he brought alot to the team with his glorious stroke play and elegant cut shots. Sam seemed to be fairly weary about Blake throughout the season don’t know why though??? Sam is another one of those kids with a big future and we expect big things for him in the next few seasons. Sam’s highlight for the season would be his knock against Pottsville where everything he hit seemed to be out of the middle, with his low being that of his broken finger not healing properly and keeping him out for a few weeks. Hartley ‘Sin City’ Spann- Hartleys game over the last year has improved in leaps and bounds. Hartley got called into the team throughout the season to fulfil the spinners’ position. Hartley did not fail and seemed to find a whenever he bowled. Hartley possibly could of had more wickets if he held onto catches off his own bowling. Hartleys love for cricket was evident throughout the season and at times seemed greater than his love for Sin City the GC nightclub he goes to nearly every weekend. Hartleys highlight of the season was probably taking his 1st Hooker league wicket and the joy and excitement he had accomplishing this feat. Hartleys low would be having to put up with being in the same team as Brad Cleaver. Jake ‘Bert’ Muscat- Jake’s season was one of consistency. Jake regularly got wickets and at times had opposition batsmen fearing him. Jakes bowling continues to grow as a cricketer and as a person, Luke Cleaver wants to know what Mick and Linda are feeding him. On the field Jake is a very humble yet competitive player that gives his all week in week out. Jakes highlight of the year would be either top scoring as a nightwatchmen against Byron with a solid 44 or throwing the stumps down from ¾ of the way to the boundry to help secure an outright win against Murbah. Jakes low would obviously be that he was without his mate Ernie (Seiffy) for the season. Blake ‘Blaylor’ Taylor- Blake started the year off in fine form registering unbeaten knocks in the first few games of the season. Blake showed solid form with the bat this year and averaged over 50 for the season which is no mean feat. In the field Blake was always one to listen out for although he never said much when he did open his mouth it was usually after a short ball and went along the lines of “thats good aggressive cricket”. Blake also liked having Sam in the team for some reason??? Blake’s highlight of the season would be when he took the Pottsville bowlers apart and made an unbeaten 60no. Blake’s low would be that due to the fact he is the youngest he gets told to do everything. Good things are to come from this bloke. Steve ‘I will punch a wall’ Prosser- Where to start with Steve... Steve once again led the pace attack and bowled consistently well throughout the season. Steve’s season however was cut short when he had an altercation with a wall. Steve’s batting was much the same as it had been in the last few seasons, lucky for him he can bowl. Steve’s vocabulary throughout the season grew as he learnt more swear words to fill the blanks in his stories. The highlight of Steve’s season would be getting over 20 wickets which is an outstanding effort considering he missed a few matches, with his low point being the obvious altercation with the wall in which he evidently lost. Brendan ‘Brendo’ Mitchell- Brendo made his way back into the Hooker league side after a few years playing in the 1st grade comp. Brendo alongside Steve and Jake helped spearhead the side to victories with Brendo picking up three 4 wicket hauls throughout the season. Brendo suffered back problems early in the season however bounced back and took numerous important wickets to help secure 1st innings victories. Brendo’s highlight of the season would have to be breaking an opposition batsmen’s jaw or that catch he took at Oakes, just ask him he will tell you, with his low point being that of never getting a wicket in the 2nd innings of a match. Ash ‘Simesy’ Simes- Ash started the season off in Hooker league and made a couple of starts but failed to go on with them. Ash had a disappointing season by his standard and should be able to bounce back bigger and better next year and fulfil the potential that he does have with the bat. Ash’s highlight foe the season would be that he got a bowl and took a wicket or that he managed to grasp a few catches that came to him. His low point would be that he didn’t fulfil his full potential which if he puts his head to it could be limitless. Luke ‘Lammy’ Hamshaw- Luke was another player in and out of the team on a weekly basis. Luke contributed well with both the ball and bat in the Hooker league team throughout the season. Luke is another one of those young players that in a few years we are hoping to see big things develop from. Luke’s highlight of the season would be his 4 wicket haul against Murbah preventing Brendo getting a 5 wicket haul, with his low point being that of not getting as many wickets as his brother Dan. Did a good job filling the vacant opening position. Dangerous in the field. Always keen to bowl, but not unleashed until the semi-final, where he bowled a good spell of tricky left arm tweakers…..

Patrick Martin: Pat looked good with the bat in hand all year and crafted some handy knocks. Top score of 51 against Easts was a highlight, which nearly won us the match. Electric in the field with some nice catches.

Oliver James: Slow start to the year, but hit some form with the bat in January with two scores in the 30’s. Worked hard on his running between the wickets, with success….. only two run outs this year! Didn’t get many opportunities to roll the arm over.

Benjamin Collins: Threatened with the bat all year and made some good scores. Top score of 48 not out against Goonellabah being his best. Took an amazing 4 catches in the first T20 game of the year. Only bowled two balls with the figures of 1 for 0.

Toby Collings: Patchy year with the bat for Toby, looked damaging at times and made a blistering 55 in a win against Easts. Opened the bowling with good pace and bounce. Best figures of 3 for 19 in an outright win against Workers.

Luke Hamshaw: A good year with bat and ball for Lukey. Played a few games of Hooker League taking a best of 4 for 24. Made a valuable 60 not out in a win against Souths. Bowled tight spells all year, with an impressive 6 for 38 in a losing semi-final being his best.

Thomas Fiedler: First full year in 1st Grade. Strong year behind the stumps with some sharp catches. Looked comfortable at the crease most of the season with a top score of 30 not out in a loss to Souths.

Mark Ellem: Disappointing season with the bat, struggled to find form and luck….. Bowled some good tight spells with a best of 2 for 8 in a win against Easts. Took a nice couple of catches in the slips..

Daniel Hamshaw: Broke through into 1st Grade mid way through the season after some strong bowling and batting displays in 2nd Grade. Continued to impress with the ball with best figures of 3 for 23 in an outright win against Workers. Proved difficult to dismiss being unbeaten on 6 occasions!

Patrick Flaherty: Bowled with success at times taking three 3 wickets hauls in the T20 and one day matches. Also picked up a 4 wicket haul in 2nd Grade. Couldn’t get going with the bat in 1st Grade, but proved he can still flash the blade with a few useful scores in 2nd Grade.

Ryan Duyker: First full season in 1st Grade. Bowled quick and troubled the batsman, but struggled to consistently find good line and length. Debuted in Hooker League, and played two matches, taking his season best figures of 4 for 23 against Tintenbar-East Ballina. Limited opportunities with the bat.

Max Pye: Maxy bowled some good sharp spells throughout the season with best figures of 3 for 21 in an outright win against Workers. Limited opportunities with the bat, but made an entertaining 4 at Neilson Park….. LDCA 1st Grade

In a good sign for the Club our numbers were boosted by the promotion of lower grade & U/16 players which resulted in a completely revamped bowling attack. The regular unavailability of players and constant changes meant it took a while to “gel” and after losing a few early games we finished in third place. Everything came together for us in the finals with two crushing victories over Workers in the semi & Minor Premiers Easts in the final, giving Brothers a third consecutive Major premiership in 2nd’s. Both victories were strong team efforts with many good individual performances however Buttsy’s final figures of 5 for 7 were the highlight.

CRAIG HAMSHAW - Captain Cranky had another reasonable year with the bat and even backed up to keep wickets for most of the season.

TREAVIS JENKINS – Treavis took the opening batting spot and proved to be Mr Consistent regularly getting us off to an Ok start with a quickfire 17 to 32. Proved his consistency with a pair of 27’s in the finals. Being able to run, throw & catch meant he also did many a mile in the field.

SAM MARTIN – We only managed to get half a season out of Sam however in his limited appearances he showed he has the ability to score runs in the higher grades.

RICKY MASLEN – Rick saved his best with the bat for the final spreading the field in a hurry. Again proved to be safe as a bank in slips, taking the LDCA award for leading catcher. Handy as a mentor as he always made himself available for post match analysis.

CHRIS MATTHEWS – Club veteran who dragged himself from the bar at Evans to the ovals of Lismore again this season. Made a few handy scores & rolled the arm over occasionally but most impressive performance is how he disappears after a game.

BRAD JOHNSON – Johnno was called up early in the season only to break down and miss most of the season. Made it back in time for finals and proved his worth with a couple of quickfire innings.

JACOB DHESI – Singhy talked his way into 2nd grade and despite Fiedler’s (& Jacob’s) assurances that he could play the game it took until the final before we started to see it. Wayno’s influence as a Fatherly figure is an ongoing concern.

MATT WYATT – Despite an uncertain start ( I just wanna play baseball ), Matt was an integral part of our bowling attack, being the intimidator. One of the quickest and bounciest bowlers in the comp. meant he was a handful for most oppositions.

BEN OLLEY – Being a leggie Dover had to bide his time in 3rd’s, behind a couple of other young leggies ( D Hamshaw & Parsons ). Showed enough in a couple of games to get the nod for the finals and performed well on the big stage. TOM PARSONS – Tom come up from 3rd’s at beginning of season and had a great year taking 28 wickets. Didn’t get much opportunity with the bat but chipped in with a couple of handy knocks. Is now ready for higher grades after a season’s expert tutelage in 2nd’s.

PAUL BUTTS – Buttsy was elevated at start of season and proved his value by spending many hours umpiring and not batting. Opened the bowling, regularly going for very few runs without taking a bagful. That changed with BOG performance in the final.

ANDREW DODDS – Doddsy was extracted from 4th’s mid season to strengthen our pace bowling depth (ultimately proved unfortunate for 4ths ). His addition gave us a reliable three pronged pace attack with two quality spinners, his ability to take early wickets was crucial to our success.

JACOB AULD – Another U/16 who played most of season. A couple of useful innings when we were in trouble showed he has some ability. Some ability will only get you so far.

DANIEL HAMSHAW – Dan started season in 2nd’s but after a good start to season was promoted to 1st grade to join rest of previous season’s attack.

ANDREW MASLEN – When it comes to cricket Maz experiences communication & commitment issues. “Unlucky” to be 13th man for finals despite his 5 runs ( from 5 games ) and 1 wicket @ 42 ( from 9 overs ) in 2nd’s through the season. Scored well however.

PAT FLAHERTY – Won Tong was squeezed out of 1st’s and was enjoying a bumper season in 2nd’s with the bat, quadrupling his career average with 41 runs @ 20.5, before missing our finals campaign.

Thanks to all 28 players that played through the season. LDCA 2nd Grade

Adrian Zorzo : Taking over the captaincy this year from Stuart Fiedler I had some big pants to fill. Seems the only time I score runs is when I can bat myself anywhere I like in the batting order, maybe should have tapped Stuey on the shoulder a long time ago. Unfortunately didn't get to bowl myself because of keeping duties, maybe next year!

Andrew McFadden : After 10 years in the wilderness McFadden finally got sick of mulching his garden every Saturday afternoon and made a much anticipated come back to Brothers. Opening the batting made some good scores and one of the safest pairs of hands at first slip, the same couldn't be said for midwicket where he “dropped the world cup” in a crucial game against Workers. However could boast an unbeaten captaincy record when I was called on to go up and inject a winning culture into Hamshaw’s team.

Patrick Ivers : Another good year for Pat who stepped up to bat at Three this year and handled it well (when Zorzo wasn't running him out). Made some good contributions with bat and ball and is one of the clubs promising juniors. Would have liked to see more of his off spinners but playing in a team with 9 bowlers made it hard.

Adam Sheridan : Scraggy started the year with a flourish scoring a couple of quick 50's and proving to be a match winner. He was poached by 2nd grade mid season but later returned to the fold to add his dynamic fielding abilities and enthusiasm to our team. Forever pestering the captain for a bowl finally got his chance in the GF with the opposition needed 30 runs an over to win.

Ben Warid : Hard hitting all-rounder who would often come and dominate the bowling attack from ball one. Ben is one of the most casual players on the team, often turning up one minute before the start of play obviously to miss out on the 45min pre game warm up.

Jeremy Perkins : Perko is another one of the clubs talented junior all-rounders who won a couple of games for us with sensible batting and some quick left arm bowling. Had a blinder in the GF taking a gutsy outfield catch with split webbing on his hand and had bowling figures of 0/3 off 6 overs which included two wides.

Lachlan Ford : Hard to believe Lachy is only 14 years old, shows great potential for the future by having the ability to bat anywhere in the order or open the bowling. We lost him for a few games due to junior rep commitments mid-season but came back with the extra skill of be able to move the ball both ways in the air.

Kadan Ford : Older one of the Ford brothers, Kadan opened the bowling for us this year and has obviously inherited the Ford bowling gene. Often older opposing players comment on how much he can swing the ball, a good foil for Quinny at the other end who didn't swing it much at all. Peter Ford : Fordy proved this year not just to be a taxi service for the boys but a great mentor and coach for all of our young bowlers . Whether it be opening the batting or bowling Peter is a great asset to the team with years of experience behind him, however when it came to sitting out a game due to oversupply of players didn't really need his arm twisted especially on a 40 degree day.

Mathew Carter : Mat joined brothers from Norths this year and after trying a few different batting and bowling positions finally settled in to being a great first change medium paced out swing bowler. If you needed a wicket Mat would usually guarantee at least 2 or 3 every game producing heaps of unplayable deliveries. Hard hitting batsman and often would come in late and get runs fast.

Chris Chapman : Another first timer for MBCC this year joining us from Ballina, Although started late in the season still managed to take out most wickets for us. Bowling leg spin and showing a great eye with the bat and in the field with an unusual ability to impart a great amount of topspin on the ball leaving most batsmen with no idea. Probably should have got more wickets through stumping but was let down by the wicket keeper who also had not much idea.

Mark Sivewright : Sivey's first year back since Kanga cricket 1985, slotted straight back in to the game as if he had never left. Had a mixed year with the bat smashing 42n.o. off 20 balls in his first game. Great fitness and enthusiasm in the field with a safe pair of hands. It wasn't till his hidden bowling talents were discovered by McFadden against Souths one day where he took a brilliant hat trick to turn the game.

Chris Quinn : Left arm opening bowler who traditionally likes to always take the second over of the game so it doesn't upset his mojo. Chris can always be relied on to take those first couple of wickets (when the wicket keeper can catch) to get the team off to a good start. Opened the batting a couple of times with a top score of 43 which included 6 dropped catches. Good team man who loves his cricket always keen to play.

Ben Olley : Dover aka “Scraggy's taxi service” was up and down this year often missing every second week because he had to help his dad dig a hole. Poached by Hamshaw regularly but when required always took 2 or 3 with his accurate leggies or coming in late in the order to rescue an innings, Esky profits took a dive when Dover and Scraggy were unavailable, hopefully this can be rectified next year.

Thanks to all other players who filled in this year Jacob Graham, Tony Egan, Denis Dardengo, Brad Johnson, Chris Ivers, Andrew Maslen, Oh and better not forget Danny Parsons or I'll never hear the end of it. LDCA 3rd Grade

I didn’t know what to expect at the start of this season – a higher than usual turnover of players meant that we were an unknown quantity. After a mixed T20 campaign – a good win, a last ball loss and being thrashed in the final round the picture was no clearer. But once the 40 over games started we got out of the blocks well with some big wins, clawed victory from defeat in a couple of games and went through the regular season with only one loss. The big difference this year was our batting performances were very consistent - posting good totals batting first or chasing well. Our consistency was rewarded with winning the club’s first ever 4th Grade Minor Premiership. The Grand Final didn’t go our way – but at least Tony and Johnno made it entertaining.

Glen “Shins like hands” Lees – Collected a few wickets again this year, alas couldn’t buy one in the GF though. Fielding highlight of the year a one hand caught and bowled, closely followed by being hit in the shins several times in various fielding positions during one game. Batting highlight for the year was not getting run out for a diamond duck by Dick Cleaver.

Brendan “T Bag” Coffey – had a slow start to the year with the ball, but by the latter half was opening the bowling and chipping in with regular wickets. Opened the batting when no one else would, making a few starts but not able to kick on. Always willing to ride the boundary for his captain

Matt “Picket Fence” Cleaver – Our number three batsman he could be counted on to occupy the crease and let the team build a score around him, evidence of which is his involvement in the highest partnerships for wickets 2 to 5. Had a great second half of the season where he continually got 20s and 30s. Had his team mates mesmerised with a score of 26 – all singles – at Rec 10.

Andrew “Mr Glass” Scott – a new recruit after many years of not playing Scotty slotted in at number 4 and made the gully his own taking a swag of catches. A string of injuries at the start of the season had his team mates more worried about his wellbeing than Brains.

Jacob “Trev Jnr” Graham – come back from thirds halfway through the season and was always keen to play. His batting stats belie how solid he looked, scored a good 31 against the stacked Goonellabah side, a bit older and wiser next year he should realise that he shouldn’t let his older opponents rattle him

Dave “Hurry up, I’ve got a pizza ordered” Cleaver – Dick would tell you of his reluctance to play each week, but always had his whites with him and his experienced advice was always appreciated by his captain. Shocked even himself by taking four catches in one match against Souths. Didn’t enjoy batting on synthetic or the lack of pace of the opposition bowlers, had a best of 39 in our big win over Norths on the hottest day in years

Tony “That’s it, I’m not blocking anymore” Egan – after a prolonged absence from the club was keen to get back into the red ball game. Was taken up to thirds for a period but found his way back to fourths. Proved a good substitute keeper with two catches and three stumpings in one match. Turned the GF on its ear with a quick 92 run partnership with Johhno that had Norths worried.

Scott “Leave me in 4ths” Johnson – another bumper year with the bat and gloves had Hammy and Zorzo trying their best to poach him, luckily for us he we kept him and with a little help from our other batsmen it allowed him to generally come out and ice the innings. Jordan “Rowdy” Salkeld – A quiet achiever Jordy took the new ball each week, and probably didn’t get the wickets he deserved for the quality of his bowling. Bowled a couple of blistering spells that were much quicker and if he could replicate that each week would be almost unplayable. Batted down the order and could always be counted on to make runs and was involved in a 95 run 8th wicket stand with Doddsy that saved us against Souths.

Darryl “I’ve got some massage oil in the car” Rose – a mid-season recruit he added a lot of entertainment to the game, both with his playing and banter with the opposition. Bowled amazing out swing and ran through Workers at Rec 9 nabbing 5 for 8 (should have been 5 for 1 after 6 dodgy wides and an overthrow). Great in the field and handy with the bat he added a lot to our team. Darryl would like to thank his major sponsor – Modanville Takeaway Store

Matt “Is back” Wilson – we always knew Brains wanted to come back to fourths, we just didn’t know the lengths he would go to in the off season to do it. Once again reliable with the ball, he was great in the field taking catches and affecting a direct hit run out in the GF. Put his hand up to open and scored back to back scores in the 40’s very quickly, though almost killed a mother and child at Bexhill with a six that ricocheted off the fence in the process. Lowlight was getting caught 2nd ball of a match at Rec 10 when the fielding team only had 7 players.

Kye “Give me the ball” Myers – transferred from Goonellabah and was always keen to be involved. Batted down the order, but when given the opportunity to go up didn’t let us down scoring 35 against Souths. Bowled well at times and will benefit from being a bit older and stronger next year. Was most excited to have a crack with the ball at his old captain in the grand final.

Andrew “DRC” Dodds – this was going to be his year – he was fit, bowling fast and getting wickets – and then he was taken up to 2nd Grade. Left his captain bemused when he had to leave a game early to go to Christmas dinner – at his parents place just up the road from his house. Pity he couldn’t have been with us in the GF. Hamshaw – look at his stats he really can bat.

Thanks to following who helped plug gaps throughout the year - Wil Parsons, Mick Muscat, Brad Johnson, Kurt Wyatt, Owen Myers, Cody McKinnon, Zach Gallagher, Ian Salkeld and Tony Wells. It was nice to win the Minor, and to have a chance of a Major – but it was great to do it with such a good bunch of blokes. LDCA 4th Grade
