  • Disruption in the Animation Feature Film Industry: Is Low-Cost, High-Quality Animated Features the Future?
http://techstory.in/disruption-in-animation-feature-film-industry/ Disruption In The Animation Feature Film Industry: Is Low-Cost, High-Quality Animated Features The Future? August 25, 2017 Globally, animation features are the most profitable genre of filmed-entertainment. Since Toy Story by Pixar opened-up the computer graphics imaging (CGI) animation landscape in 1995, the segment has been largely dominated by the majors. Toy Story unabashedly led the first tectonic shift in the modern-day animation ecosystem with its disruptive creative and technical mastery. In the 22 years since, about 150 CGI movies have been released, c. 80% of which have been productions by a select few studios and distributors – entirely driven by Hollywood. Animation is a capital-intensive medium, and the budget for the tent-pole films by the majors were in the $100-$200m range, until the genre of the mid-tier budget features ($50 – 80m) was born, and commercially established – led by the creative wonders from Chris Meledandri of Illumination (Minions, Despicable Me, etc.) fame. The economics on such high-quality mid-tier budget features were highly attractive. The ability for such films to also create high franchise value at significantly lower costs led to another disruptive change in the perception of animation filmmaking. Audiences love powerful storytelling and compelling visuals – the route to realizing this was secondary. Whilst Hollywood continues to remain the driving force in the global entertainment business, the world order is changing. China and India, among other facets of economic evolution, have a key role to play in the entertainment industry as well.

This act was designed to increase the choices for children and to give parents and families the possibility of finding educational programming to supplement other children's programs. The Act has two major provisions. First, it established time limits on the amount of advertising that could be shown during children's programs. The second requires broadcasters to serve the educational and informational needs of the child audience including programming specifically designed to meet these needs. This hearing focused on whether this law has changed the landscape for children in the almost four year it has been in effect. Testimony was presented by:(1) Rosanne K. The 81st Annual General Meeting of Shareholders Nintendo Co., Ltd. Q&A Summary If you quote any or all of this Q&A, please display the URL of this website or put a link to this website. Q1 I'd like to ask about the exchange rate assumptions in your financial forecast. For this fiscal year, you are assuming an exchange rate of 120 yen to the euro, but that seems like a strong yen considering the rates assumed by other companies and the fact that the exchange rate is now trending at around 130 yen to the euro. On what basis did you calculate this assumed exchange rate? A1 Shuntaro Furukawa (Representative Director and President): First, let me briefly touch on how changes in the exchange rate affect our business performance. For our company, overseas sales account for around 80% of total sales, so variation in the assumed exchange rate has a significant impact on sales. Also, because of the high proportion of overseas sales, a relatively large amount of the bonds and cash, and cash equivalents we hold are denominated in foreign currencies. These are all calculated in yen based on the exchange rate as of the end of the fiscal year and recorded on the balance sheet. Foreign exchange gains and losses generated by the temporary revaluation at the end of the fiscal year are recorded as non-operating profit or loss in the statements of income. You asked about the basis for our assumed rate of 120 yen to the euro for this fiscal year. As you pointed out, we assume a slightly stronger yen compared to the recent rate.

PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Media Contact: Greg Walsh, Walsh Public Relations 305 Knowlton Street, Bridgeport, CT 06608 T: (203) 292-6280; E-Mail: [email protected] Tactic Games Secures License for Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures’ Despicable Me Franchise and Upcoming Prequel Minions Grantsville, MD - (May 15, 2015) – Tactic Games announced today that the company has been granted rights to games based on Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures’ Despicable Me global film franchise, including the upcoming prequel Minions, opening in theaters July 10, 2015. The licensing agreement awarded by Universal Partnerships & Licensing includes the all-new indoor/outdoor game, Minions Hit Them Out. Jay Knox, President of U.S. Sales and Marketing for Tactic, said, "We can't wait to unleash the Minions to the world in this fun new game. It will arrive in stores just in time for the all-new film." Tactic's Minions Hit Them Out (MSRP $24.99, for two or more players ages 5 and up) is a fun indoor/outdoor throwing game featuring Minion character figurines. To play the game, players try to score points by knocking over the characters. More points can be earned by specifically aiming for two-eyed Minions! About Minions The story of Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment’s Minions begins at the dawn of time. Starting as single-celled yellow organisms, Minions evolve through the ages, perpetually serving the most despicable of masters. Continuously unsuccessful at keeping these masters—from T. rex to Napoleon—the Minions find themselves without someone to serve and fall into a deep depression.
