The main theme of the Conference is “Geoparks and Modern Society – 20 years protection, promotion and sustainable use of Earth Heritage in park environment”. Tentative list of the conference topics: 1. Geodiversity identification, assessment and protection in geopark environment. 2. The concept of Geopark Belogradchik Rocks is based on the famous natural monument “Belogradchik rocks”, and remarkable geodiversity including sedimentary, igneous, volcanic and metamorphic rocks from Precambrian to Recent. There are dozens of caves in which artifacts of earliest settlements in Europe are preserved. The Magura Cave, which is in the tentative list of UNESCO, is known with its primitive prehistoric wall paintings and natural sparking vine. We both feel also that it is an injustice to Bulgaria and a loss to American Slavic scholarship that, in spite of the importance of Bulgaria for the Slavic world, so little attention is paid to the country's cultural contributions. This is the more deplorable for American influence in Bulgaria was great, even before World War I. Many Bulgarians were educated in Robert Col- lege in Constantinople and after World War I in the American College in Sofia, one of the institutions supported by the Near East Foundation. Many Bulgarian professors have visited the United States in happier times. So it seems unfair that Ameri- cans and American universities have ignored so completely the development of the Bulgarian genius and culture during the past century.

    Day of the Bulgarian National Revival Leaders On October 29th," Aleko Konstantinov" Primary school marked the Day of the Leaders of the Bulgarian National Revival. Students from 6th grade acquainted their classmates with the history of this holiday and its celebration. Once again, people from Plovdiv have a reason to be proud, because this day was celebrated for the first time here - in Plovdiv, in 1909. Our city has given a lot of famous Bulgarian leaders contributing to the revival movement - Najden Guerov , Hristo Danov Yoakim Dr. Chimayo, Avksentij Veleshki and others. Days dedicated to the celebration include a variety of events. Sixth graders had a meeting with Mr. Luke Stanchev, who presented the film "Bulgarian sanctuaries in Albania." Students from 5th and 6th grade organized an exhibition dedicated to the Bulgarian leaders . Elena Penisheva - the school librarian - presented books on the life and work of the Bulgarian National Revival Leaders. Daniela Gencheva - history teacher Contest " We are tolerant " Dear classmates, teachers and parents, On the occasion of November 16th - The International Day of Tolerance , we decided to organize a series of initiatives to show everyone that we accept and understand differences among people. Seneca, Epistulae, LXXI The reign of Emperor Trajan (AD 98- 117) was the time of the greatest expansion of the Roman Empire. More than a century had passed since the Balkans came under the heel of Rome and the imperial admin- istration assimilated the lands south of the Istros River (today's Danube). It was the preservation of the peace along the bor- der rather than the need of new territorial gains that led to several military campaigns, which were a complete success for the Ro- man troops. The most significant of these was against the union of Dacian states under Decebalus. Dacians were tribes of Thracian ancestry, inhabiting the north part of the Danubian plain and the South Carpathians in modern Romania. The first Dacian War (AD 101-102) ended with partial Roman success and the signing of a peace treaty, which was humiliating for the Dacians. It was the reason for the start of the second Dacian War a few years later (AD 105-106), 3 The Roman Empire 4 which resulted in the annihilation of the Da- cian kingdom, the suicide of Decebalus in an attempt to avoid being taken prisoner by the Romans, and the annexation of the conquered territory as a new imperial province under the name of Dacia.
