CASE STUDY: IMPROVING

This is Ned. Ned is a drawing which describes a pupil’s wellbeing improvement WELLBEING journey. Ned feels a bit different from others, that’s why Ned is drawn as an alien. Ned previously would be hiding around the corner, reluctant to participate. Ned is still cautious, but starting to come out from hiding to explore. Improving Attendance Ned was a non school attender the term before he became involved with AFCCT. He was shy, quiet and anxious about peers and the school environment. The following term, after becoming involved with AFCCT, Ned attained 100% Reducing Lateness attendance, was engaging with education again and reported improvements in his wellbeing. Improving Wellbeing Ned feels the programme helps mental health, creating a supportive environment where everybody is achieving. Ned’s anxiety has lowered as Improving Engagement the programme’s smaller class sizes and informal setting make things more comfortable for him. They now find it easier to get out of bed in the morning, is more motivated, likes learning new skills and having new experiences. Ned thinks the staff and other pupils are caring, he feels safe and able to express himself. Ned is more positive about the future.
