  • April 2014 Jilla Burgess-Allen Specialty Registrar in Public Health, Derbyshire County Council
April 2014 Jilla Burgess-Allen Specialty Registrar in Public Health, Derbyshire County Council 1 Executive Summary Health Needs Glossopdale is characterised by its proximity to Manchester to the West and to rural Derbyshire to the East. The boundary issues, geographical location and relative lower level of need compared with the rest of Tameside and Glossop, has impacted on historical service provision within Glossop. Compared with the rest of Derbyshire, Glossop has a relatively high level of substance misuse-related health need. For example, both alcohol related and attributable mortality have, between 2007 and 2011, been higher in Glossopdale than in Derbyshire as a whole, and for alcohol attributable deaths the trend has been increasing in Glossopdale whilst it decreased county wide. Alcohol specific and attributable hospital admissions for men have also been increasing in Glossopdale. Alcohol-related community safety issues have improved in the area over recent years though the area still has a higher rate of alcohol-related violent crime than average for the police division. Class A drug use is seen as relatively low by service providers and agencies working in the area, but interviews with service users suggest there may be a greater problem than agencies are aware of. While service providers report declining prevalence, service users perceive a local increase and report that class A drugs are more available in the area than before. Cannabis use is reported to be high in the area and is perceived to be socially normalised. However, cannabis related offending rates are low. Substance misuse issues are less visible in the area compared to neighbouring Tameside & Greater Manchester, and stigma may play a role in this alongside less visible and accessible service provision.

  • Great Literature Collection
Great Literature Collection Aldrich Ames: Traitor Within CIA operative Aldrich Ames has, like his father, always been a company man. Although not always competent, he is chief of the Counter Intelligence Soviet Branch and has few friends within the Agency. On the verge of financial ruin due to, among other things, his wife Rosario's heavy spending, the hard-drinking and desperate Ames decides to sell secrets to the Russians. His first "job" has fatal consequences for ten Russians who worked for the CIA. Ames' boss, the Chief of Operations, who is friendly toward Ames, discovers that someone within the CIA is divulging high-level information. He appoints Jeanne Vertefeuille to head up the investigation. Jeanne recruits her own older staff, derisively dubbed the "over the hill gang". Poring through an abundance of records, case files and information proves to be an awesome task and their search goes on for eight years. After a year-long stint in Rome and now with Bush in the White House, Ames continues turning over information to the Russians for millions of dollars, re-routing deposits to Swiss banks and his wife's family in Colombia. Still an alcoholic, he buys a Jaguar and moves his family to an expensive home in a plush suburb. Ames soon realizes, however, that the investigation is closing in and gets very nervous when a Russian politico who could disclose Ames' duplicity defects to America. Ames gets lucky, his treason is not yet uncovered. Ames' own actions, however, begin to draw suspicion towards him, especially when he tries to conduct his own investigation to uncover the spy within the CIA.

  • HAMLET: PRESS RESPONSES Almeida & West End (2017) Shakespeare
HAMLET: PRESS RESPONSES Almeida & West End (2017) Shakespeare www.roberticke.com FINANCIAL TIMES Ian Shuttleworth ★★★★★ I have been privileged to see several first-class Hamlets this century: Simon Russell Beale, Samuel West, David Tennant, Rory Kinnear, Maxine Peake, arguably Lars Eidinger. Andrew Scott is at least as outstanding as any of those, and right now I’m inclined to rank him in front. His Prince is almost always self-aware, but not self-understanding; on the contrary, his keynote is a kind of bemused wonder at goings-on both within and beyond his skin. The great soliloquies seem new-minted, every word a separate question. The playfulness at which Scott so excels (most notably as Moriarty in BBC-TV’s Sherlock) is here kept under a rigorously tight rein. I did not see this production when it opened at the Almeida a few months ago, but my impression is that neither Scott’s nor anyone else’s performance has been ramped up for a venue two and half times the size; the consequent occasional intelligibility problems are far outweighed by the sense of human scale. For this is the glory of Robert Icke’s production. It does not consist of a superlative Prince Hamlet, a clutch of fine supporting performances and a number of sharp directorial ideas stitched together into a plausible fabric; rather, it is whole and entire of itself. Angus Wright’s cool, disciplined Claudius, Juliet Stevenson’s besotted-then-horrified Gertrude, Jessica Brown Findlay’s Ophelia (at first at sea like Hamlet, finally psychologically shattered in a wheelchair), David Rintoul’s doubling of the Ghost and the Player King .

Their words changed the world. SHORT SYNOPSIS In PAUL, APOSTLE OF CHRIST, Luke risks his life to visit Paul, who is held captive in a Roman prison under Nero’s rule. Together, they struggle against a determined emperor and the frailties of the human spirit in order to live out the Gospel of Jesus Christ and spread their message to the world. LONG SYNOPSIS PAUL, APOSTLE OF CHRIST is the story of two men. Luke, as a friend and physician, risks his life when he ventures into the city of Rome to visit Paul, who is held captive in Nero’s darkest, bleakest prison cell. But Nero is determined to rid Rome of Christians, and does not flinch from executing them in the grisliest ways possible. Before Paul’s death sentence can be enacted, Luke resolves to write another book, one that details the beginnings of “The Way” and the birth of what will come to be known as the church.
