Se entrega una breve diagnosis para reconocer la especie y datos acerca de su distribución e historia natural. Se discute respecto de las posibles vías de ingreso de este arácnido a Chile. Palabras clave: araña, sinantrópica, cosmopolita, norte de Chile. ABSTRACT From adult spiders caught in Tarapaca Region is recorded for the first time in Chile the presence of Hasarius adansoni Auodouin, cosmopolitan spider frequently present in warm climates. A brief diagnosis to recognize the species, data about this distribution and natural history are given. The possible ways of entry of this spider to Chile are discussed. Key words: spider, synanthropic, cosmopolitan, north of Chile. The association between domatia-bearing plants and mites has been proposed to be mutualistic, and has been found to be important in species of economic value, such as grapes, cotton, avocado and coffee. This is because leaf domatia affect the distribution, diversity and abundance of predatory and mycophagous mites found on the leaf surface. As a result, plants are thought to benefit from increased defence against pathogens and small arthropod herbivores. This study assesses the relative diversity and composition of mites on an economically important plant host (Coffea aribica) in comparison to mites found in a neighbouring indigenous forest in South Africa. Our results showed that the coffee plantations were associated with only predatory mites, some of which are indigenous to South Africa. This indicates that coffee plantations are able to be successfully colonised by indigenous beneficial mites. -

Suparno 63 Purwokerto 53122 A B S T R A C T Spiders are crucial in controlling insect pest population. The various cultivation managements such as fertilizer and pesticide application, weeding, pruning, harvesting, and cropping system affect their diversity. In the plantation, vegetation diversification has applied various practices, including monoculture, and intercropping, which influence the spider community. Thus, this study was intended to determine the spider abundance and diversity of the tea plantation, and the intercropping field (tea and strawberry) at Serang village, Karangreja Sub-District, District of Purbalingga. A survey and purposive sampling techniques were conducted, then the spiders were hand collected. Shannon- spider diversity. The results revealed a total number of 575 individual spiders from 10 families, i.e., Araneae, Araneidae, Clubionidae, Linyphiidae,Wiener Lycosidae, diversity Nephilidae, (H’), Evenness Oxyopidae, (E), Simpson’s Salticidae, dominance Tetragnathidae, (D), and Sorensen’s Theridiidae, similarity and Thomisidae. Morgan Abstract The disease scabies is one of the earliest diseases of humans for which the cause was known. It is caused by the mite, Sarcoptes scabiei,thatburrowsintheepidermisoftheskinofhumans and many other mammals. This mite was previously known as Acarus scabiei DeGeer, 1778 before the genus Sarcoptes was established (Latreille 1802) and it became S. scabiei. Research during the last 40 years has tremendously increased insight into the mite’s biology, parasite-host interactions, and the mechanisms it uses to evade the host’s defenses. This review highlights some of the major advancements of our knowledge of the mite’s biology, genome, proteome, and immunomodulating abilities all of which provide a basis for control of the disease. Advances toward the development of a diagnostic blood test to detect a scabies infection and a vaccine to protect susceptible populations from becoming infected, or at least limiting the transmission of the disease, are also presented. Abstract Typhlodromips montdorensis is a non-native predatory mite used for control of red spider mite and thrips, but is not yet licensed for use in the UK. Current legislation requires that non-native glasshouse biological control agents may not be introduced into the UK without a risk assessment of establishment potential outside of the glasshouse environment. This work focuses on the application of a recently developed protocol to assess the establishment potential of T. montdorensis in the UK. Further, the use of alternative prey outside the glasshouse by, Macrolophus caliginosus is examined, and interactions between Neoseiulus californicus, Typhlodromus pyri and T. montdorensis are investigated. Laboratory results demonstrate that T. montdorensis has a developmental threshold of 10.7°C, lacks cold tolerance and is unable to enter diapause when tested under two different regimes. -

The Pacific spider mite Tetranyhus pacificus and the Willamette spider mite Eot- etmnyclzus rvillamettei are herbivore pests of grapevines in California. The two spider mite species share a common and often effective phytoseiid predator, the Western orchard predatory mite Metaseiitlus occidentalis. It has been suggested that E. wil- lamettei may be beneficial in vineyards because it may have a negative impact on the more damaging T. pacijicus through their shared predator or through some form of interspecific competition. We conducted field and greenhouse experiments to deter- mine the relative effects of these interactions between the two herbivores on the population dynamics of T.pacijicus in ‘Thompson Seedless’ grape vineyards. We also used the field data to generate a functional relationship for the combined impact of E, willamettei and M. occidentalis on T. pacificus. 2. Predation and predator-mediated apparent competition were the only factors affecting T. pacificus densities in the field experiment. The addition of the predatory mite M. occidentalis alone resulted in a significant reduction in T. pacificus densities, while the addition of E. willamettei alone had little impact on T. pacificus densities. The greatest reductions in T. pacijicus densities occurred in plots where both the predatory mite M. occidentalis and E. willamettei were added. The predatory mite occurred earliest and increased at the greatest rate in plots where it was released along with E.
