Location: 110 St. Pierre Street, St. Constant Quebec, Canada J5A 1G7.

Contact Person: Mrs. Josée Vallerand, Archivist Telephone: (450) 638-1522, ext. 237 Fax: (450) 638-1563

Hours: The Archives Center is open to the public by appointment only. The Documentation Center is open every Wednesday from 1:30 pm to 4 pm.

Access: Researchers may request information by telephone, fax, on the Internet or by mail. The archivist will produce the documents requested by the researcher who will have access to the documentation center. On the website it states that research fees of $25.00 / hour are applicable but does not apply necessarily to all requests. It would be good for researcher to inquire about costs prior to their requests for archival documents. My experience was that they were extremely helpful and retrieved an article I requested at no cost.

General Description of Archival Holdings: THE C.R.H.A. ARCHIVES includes over 100 archival fonds and collections from railway companies such as the CN, the CP and the Grand Trunk, from manufacturers, MLW and CC&F among others, and from prominent men like Charles Melville Hays and William Cornelius Van Horne. The archives contain over 144,000 plans, 180,000 photographs, 257 linear meter of textual documents, totalling more than a quarter of a million documents of all description.

*The description of the Archival Fonds and Collections of the Canadian Railroad Historical Association has been established according to the Rules for Archival Description (RAD). The description remains uniform in order to facilitate research and reading.

For the purposes of the university resource list I have noted some of the documentation that might be of interest to a public working class researcher.
