Andi Saputra MUSLIM NEGARAWAN: TELAAH ATAS PEMIKIRAN DAN KETELADANAN BUYA HAMKA Andi Saputra Mahasiswa Pascasarjana Filsafat Islam Fakultas Ushuluddin dan Pe- mikiran Islam UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta Surel: [email protected] Abstract One of the primary values inherent in the personality of the nation (founding father) in addition to the breadth of insight is the strong pas- sion and love for the homeland nationality. Philosophy of life that stands on the foundation of nationalism and patriotism that is then color every movement, behavior as well as the epic struggle deeds they do, for the grounding the ideals of independence. Along with that, especially in the context of the independence of the nation, teaching in the form of ideas and ideals that appear to be important life values for the next generation. Besides an attempt to take the essence of the teaching given, also related to the effort to continue to foster national values and love of the homeland as the ethical foundation in terms of bringing the nation to the gates of progress. One in a series of well-known national leader is Haji Abdul Malik Karim Amrullah (Hamka); a statesman who thinks that nation- alism and patriotism as part of the faith (religion). Through a sociolog- ical theory of knowledge Mannheim has found that important teaching presented Hamka in relation to the life of the nation that is their re- sponsibility that must be realized that every citizen. Responsibilities shall include nationality, homeland, all of which according to Hamka in line with the main principles of Islam, namely amar ma’ruf nahi munkar. -

JURNAL AQLAM – Journal of Islam and Plurality –Volume 5, Nomor 1, Juni 2020 ABDURRAHMAN WAHID’S CONTRIBUTION FOR INTER-RELIGIOUS DIALOGUE IN INDONESIA Achmad Munjid Universitas Gadjah Mada [email protected] Abstract: By understanding the historical development of inter-religious dialogue in Indonesia and its global setting since 1970s from rhetoric strategy to meaningful encounter, this paper seeks to situate important contribution of Abdurrahman Wahid’s legacy besides those of other key figures in the field. The paper will critically analyze how and why Abdurrahman’s ideas and works in inter-religious dialogue are intertwined with his family and personal biography, socio-political context of the New Order and after and his traditionalist Muslim background. In particular, Abdurrahman’s reinterpretation of Islamic texts, doctrine and tradition will be discussed in the light of his vision for Indonesian democracy. His notion of religious pluralism, tolerance, peaceful co-existence, mutual understanding, and indigenization of Islam will be explained as intellectual and political enterprises by which he navigates and challenges all forms of injustices especially created by the New Order’s politics of fear, exploitation of anti-Communist sentiment, ethnicity, religion, race and inter-social groups (SARA) and developmentalist ideology under Suharto’s presidency. His engagement in inter- religious dialogue will be read against the developing context of the New Order’s post- 1965 politics of religion to the 1990s re-Islamization, the persistent growth of Islamic sectarianism, exclusivism, and identity politics that eventually results in interreligious tension and mutual suspicion, especially between Muslims and Christians. The paper seeks to understand how and why Abdurrahman Wahid as a prominent leader of Muslims as majority group explores inter-religious dialogue as a means by which religious communities are supposed to contribute and work together in overcoming common problems faced by the society. -

The Populism of Islamist Preachers in Indonesia’s 2019 Presidential Election Yuka Kayane University of Tsukuba Populism without leadership? he literature on populism in Asian countries over the past two decades has generally featured charismatic and often autocratic leaders, as notably demonstrated elsewhere by the rise (and fall) of Thaksin Shinawatra due to his vehement rhetoric that antago- Tnized political elites in Bangkok, Rodrigo Duterte’s brutal and lawless war on drugs, and the continuous electoral success of Narendra Modi’s Hindu nationalist government, which prop- agates a divisive rhetoric that alienates Muslim minorities.1 Those analyses and media com- mentaries have highlighted personalistic leaders’ political strategies for seeking or exercising governmental power based on direct, unmediated, un-institutionalized support from large numbers of mostly unorganized followers.2 While the aforementioned top-down populism with powerful leadership has often attracted significant attention, recent studies have shown that there are varieties of other forms of populist mobilization; some take bottom-up forms of social movement, while others have both personalist leadership and social movement.3 In addition, its characteristics substantially depend on local context, such as the ideological bases that are most appealing to the specific society, the figures best positioned to succeed in gaining acceptance as a representative of the people, and how antagonistic oppositions are constructed. Sejatinya pemikiran pendidikan Mukti Ali telah memberikan warna untuk konsep pendidikan di Indonesia. Hal ini dapat dilihat dengan direvisinya konsep kurikulum pendidikan Indonesia menjadi kurikulum 2013. Kurikulum 2013 sederhananya ingin memadukan berbagai nilai pendidikan dalam pembelajaran. Fokus penulisan ini membahas pada siapa sosok Mukti Ali dalam dunia pendidikan dan bagaimana konsep dan relevansi pendidikan Mukti Ali untuk Indonesia di era milenium. Untuk mendapatkan data tersebut penulis lacak melalui beberapa sumber yaitu mengumpulkan beberapa karya asli dari Mukti Ali dan sumber pendukung yang berkaitan. Hasil dari penulisan ini menjelaskan bahwa konsep pemikiran pendidikan Mukti Ali didasarkan pada konsep keilmuan yang dikenal dengan istilah scientific-cum-doctrinaire, konsep kebangsaan dikenal dengan istilah agree in disagreement, dan konsep kemanusiaan. Dengan ketiga fokus pemikiran ini, Mukti Ali berupaya membangun peradaban dan pendidikan melalui hasil keputusan SKB 3 Menteri yaitu adanya kesamaan derajat lulusan sekolah umum dan madrasah. BAB I PENDAHULUAN A. Latar Belakang Masalah Masyarakat Indonesia merupakan masyarakat yang berasal dari berbagai macam latar belakang, tidak hanya dari berbagai macam agama seperti Islam, Kristen, Hindu, Buddha, Konghucu dan juga aliran kepercayaan. Tetapi masyarakat Indonesia merupakan masyarakat yang juga memiliki berbagai macam tradisi, adat istiadat dan juga kebudayaan sebagai ciri khas masing-masing wilayah mereka. Kebudayaan adalah keseluruhan dari kehidupan manusia yang terpola dan didapatkan dengan belajar atau yang diwariskan kepada generasi berikutnya, baik yang masih dalam pikiran, perasaan, dan hati pemiliknya (Agus, 2006: 35). Sebagai peninggalan yang diwariskan oleh leluhur dan nenek moyang kepada masyarakat yang sekarang, kebudayaan masih terus dilestarikan dengan cara melaksanakan apa yang telah diwariskan. Tentu saja kebudayaan itu memiliki makna dan tujuan yang baik serta mengandung nilai- nilai serta norma sehingga kebudayaan itu masih terus dilaksanakan hingga sekarang. Manusia dan kebudayaan merupakan hal yang tidak dapat dipisahkan. Sekalipun manusia sebagai pendukung kebudayaan akan mati namun kebudayaan yang dimilikinya akan tetap ada dan akan diwariskan pada keturunannya dan demikian seterusnya (Poerwanto, 2000: 50). Dengan beragamnya kebudayaan yang dimiliki oleh Indonesia maka dari kebudayaan 1 2 inilah diharapkan akan tercipta suatu masyarakat yang memiliki hubungan baik dalam kehidupannya serta tidak memandang dari latar belakang agama, ras, suku dan sebagainya. Dari sinilah manusia menjadi bagian penting dalam lestarinya kebudayaan tersebut. Dalam hal ini, masyarakat apabila dilihat dari segi budaya memiliki peran penting dalam pelestarian budaya. Dimana unsur- unsur yang dimiliki oleh kebudayaan ada tiga hal yakni; norma, nilai, keyakinan yang ada dalam pikiran, hati dan perasaan manusia. Kemudian tingkah laku yang dapat diamati dalam kehidupan nyata dan hasil material dan kreasi, pikiran, dan perasaan manusia (Koentjaraningrat, 2000: 179-202). -

Number 7 2014 ISSN 2196-3940 INTERNATIONAL Saudi Arabia Exporting Salafi Education and Radicalizing Indonesia’s Muslims Amanda Kovacs Salafis, who defend a very conservative, literal interpretation of Islam and treat Shia Muslims with hostility, are not just a phenomenon in the Middle East. They are increasingly pressuring Shias and other religious minorities in Indonesia, too. Analysis Saudi Arabia is the world’s main provider of Islamic education. In addition to promoting Salafism and maligning other religious communities, Saudi educational materials present the kingdom in a favorable light and can also exacerbate religious strife, as they are doing in Indonesia. The Saudi educational program aims to create global alliances and legitimize the Saudi claim to be the leader of Islam – at home and abroad. Since switching to democracy in 1998, Indonesia has been shaken time and EDITION again by Salafi religious discrimination and violence, often on the part of graduates of LIPIA College in Jakarta, which was founded by Saudi Arabia in 1980. Domestically, Saudi Arabia uses educational institutions to stabilize the system; since the 1960s, it has become the largest exporter of Islamic education. After Saudi Arabia began to fight with Iran for religious hegemony in 1979, it founded schools and universities worldwide to propagate its educational traditions. In Jakarta, LIPIA represents a Saudi microcosm where Salafi norms and traditions prevail. LIPIA not only helps Saudi Arabia to influence Indonesian English society, it also provides a gateway to all of Southeast Asia. As long as Muslim societies fail to create attractive government-run educational institutions for their citizens, there will be ample room for Saudi influence.
