Paper handbooks have been produced for many, many, years. The collection that was in the possession of the former DTA Secretary, Ron Hartle, dated back to the 1920s. That collection was left in his will to the LTA Museum. My own collection dates back to 1968 and provides a permanent reminder of my “glory days”! However, time moves on and we have to embrace the technology, hence this digital edition. No more having to find a handbook in a tennis bag to check the DAL rules. As it now appears that the country is moving forward from the pandemic and getting back to something approaching normality we can all look forward to enjoying our sport of tennis in our clubs, at county level, and globally. Fingers crossed! During the past year the officers and officials of the DTA have worked exceptionally hard. My thanks to all of them, especially James Grindell, Frank Beer, John Briggs, Rob Hawkins, Jenni Connell and especially Louise Walker who took on the role of DTA Secretary at probably the most difficult time in the past 100 years. A link to the DAL information will also be available on the "new" Derbyshire website which is currently being updated. Hopefully you will all have a safe and successful 2021 playing tennis. Enabling clubs, members and the wider Derbyshire Tennis Community to enjoy tennis is one of our main objectives. The D.T.A. is YOUR Association. It exists to promote tennis in the county. If there are any matters you as a player feel should be altered or improved do not hesitate to contact any of the officials or members of the management committee to bring it to the attention of the Association. 3. To promote tennis in all its facets in Derbyshire is costly. Sponsorship helps to offset the cost while at the same time providing publicity to the sponsor. If you know of any company, firm or individual who may be interested in some form of sponsorship (no matter how small) please contact any official, officer or Management Committee member. AFFILIATION FEES 2021 Agreement has been reached with the Derby Area League to replace the annual County Affiliation with a surcharge of £2.00 per team for both summer and winter entries which will be invoiced by the DAL. Associate Members: £65.00. League entry fees should be sent to the relevant area Secretary or Treasurer. 3. Immediate notice of change of officials should be given in writing to the D.T.A. The improvements specific to Surbiton will see prize money doubled to $200,000 at the 2017 pre-Wimbledon joint ATP Challenger and ITF Women’s Pro Circuit Event, staged at the Surbiton Racket & Fitness Club. The tournament will maintain its long-standing place in the schedule of a summer of British grass court tennis that will become the highest value circuit at this level in the world leading into a Grand Slam tournament. These tournament calendar enhancements will provide athletes, fans, sponsors and broadcasters an even better platform to showcase the sport, ensuring more streamlined and effective tournament operations, while delivering against the LTA’s strategy to get more people playing tennis more often. The wider changes for the 2017 calendar include the following: 1. From 2017, the pre-existing ATP World Tour 250 Aegon Open Nottingham tournament will move back to Eastbourne, merging with the WTA Premier Aegon International to form a joint event (as it was from 2009-2014) featuring the following format: a 28-player main draw men’s event and 48-player main draw for the women, staged across nine days. 2. The LTA, in partnership with Nottingham City Council, will now stage a one-week tournament with the women’s $250,000 WTA International Aegon Open Nottingham amalgamating with a men’s $100,000 ATP Challenger Tour event, thus allowing the city’s fans to see this level of men’s and women’s Tour-level tennis in the same week for the first time since 1973.

    Chardy and Riske win Fuzion 100 Surbiton Trophy titles Jeremy Chardy battled past Alex De Minaur and Alison Riske overcame Conny Perrin to be crowned 2018 Fuzion 100 Surbiton Trophy champions at the Surbiton Racket and Fitness Club on Sunday. Top seed Chardy has been on fine form all week, serving and moving well and oozing confidence but he faced a tough battle against 19-year-old De Minaur, eventually prevailing 64 46 62 after one hour 39 minutes. “To win a title is always a great feeling. It was a long time for me without winning a trophy so I’m really happy,” said Chardy. “This week was a really good week for me. I played really good in every match so I’m really happy with my performance and it’s a good start to the grass court season.” While De Minaur is still chasing that elusive ATP Challenger title, it has been a milestone week for the Australian who broke into the Top 100 for the first time on Friday. “It’s always bittersweet when you play a great tournament but don’t manage to get it done at the end. It’s happened to me a couple of times now but it just means I need to get back out there, work harder and get better,” said the No. 6 seed. “I’m very happy with my level throughout the whole week. Jeremy was too good today and he deserved to win after playing a great third set.” No. 2 seed Riske defeated Perrin 62 64 to lift the trophy in the women’s event.
