President’s Report

With an objective of being the best premier cricket club in WA, we have continued to take great strides towards achieving our goal. We have a philosophy of supporting our members in all aspects of life with our sphere of influence extending far beyond the sporting field.

This focus allows us to continue to evaluate our structures, facilities, coaching resources and player development opportunities. SFCC has a social purpose far greater than the sporting field and as the current custodians at the Club, your Committee continue to work hard to deliver on our purpose.

With a high quality Committee devoting time and energy to our Club, we have again been able to deliver on our brand, being highly competitive whilst playing cricket in the right spirit with respect from the community.

The Committee has ensured we maintained financial discipline, player engagement, high quality facilities and high standards of behaviours. Many thanks to you for your support, contribution and companionship during the season.

The club welcomed Dermot Reeve as our head coach and with a positive attitude, Dermot worked hard with the boys on their mental application to achieving success. Dermot was well supported by the pre- eminent bowling coach, Mr Ken Lilly. We also welcomed back Liam Davis who took on the reigns as our batting coach and in his quiet and positive manner, built a strong rapport with the playing group to support them in improving their game.

Our Cubs were outstanding in the current year with all grades being highly competitive and the 13’s and 14’s finishing on top of their division and having the opportunity to play in finals cricket. A huge vote of thanks to all of the players for playing such a rich brand of cricket with the Subi spirit that will hold you in good stead in all aspects of life. The players were spoilt with the quality of coaching, support and facilities and I am sure they will reflect in years to come on how good it was and how lucky they were to be a Cub at Subi. A big thank you to Andrew Sculthorpe and Ruth McKenzie.

My thanks to all who took on leadership roles in the current year whether it be to their side, organise a social event, organise sponsorship, clothing, catering, cleaning up or looking out for their teammates in all areas of life. A great Club is one with many leaders and leadership starts day one you become involved and walk in the door at Subi.

My congratulations to all of the players who achieved personal success and some notable items include:

 David Willy - Metal as the Scorchers’ KFC Big Bash League player of the year  Nicole Bolton – Zoe Goss Medal, WNCL player of the year & Australian Representative  Nathan Coulter-Nile and David Willy – T20 World Cup Players for Australia and England  – WA’s leading fast bowler  Hamish McKenzie - selection in WA under 15 team and the Australian under 16 side, as well as in the WACA Development squad  Cam Green – WA under 19 state team representation and WACA Development squad selection  Riley Morgan – WA State Schools boys representation  Nicole Bolton, Emma King, Gemma Triscari, Heather Graham, Megan Banting – Fury representation

SUBIACO FLOREAT CRICKET CLUB (Inc)

Well done to all on your on-field successes during the season and from my experience, the older you get the better you were and the better those performances will become.

A thanks to Larry Davies for continuing to have the most prestigious Masters teams who travel the world to represent the club and this year’s trip looked like a cracker.

On a personal level I want to thank the boys in 3rd grade for allowing an old fella to play some games with a brilliant bunch of lads. The change room banter was outstanding, you never get tired of it, and the on- field performances were even better. Well done to Cam on skippering the boys and getting the best out of them and a shame SFCC didn’t get an opportunity to win the final on an equal footing.

A final word of thanks to Jane, Cam and Kim for allowing me to indulge my time and energy to SFCC and for their ongoing assistance. I have a passion for our Club and am fortunate enough to have their support to indulge this passion.

Well done to all, be proud of your achievements and good luck for next season.

Glyn O’Brien – President

Coach’s Report

Firstly, I would like to thank all the players and committee that made me feel so welcome when I arrived to take up my duties as head coach.

I have tried to challenge all players to think like winners and behave like leaders.

Leaders influence players by leading by example and the encouragement they give to team mates.

Overall I have been very happy with the attitude shown by players.

I feel it is very important to have a culture of 100% encouragement between players as this builds a positive environment and helps a team/club through tough spells.

I try and praise attitude and effort when possible and ask players to bring a happy upbeat energy to training.

I have hopefully got across the importance of the mental side of the game this season and want players to develop their understanding of improving their mental skills as well as the physical technique side of the game.

I believe you play your best when you are relaxed, confident and enjoy it.

The culture of the club stood up to what was a poor start to the season and we finished strongly in all grades.

The 1st grade finished 7th and made the semi-finals of the one-day competition losing only one game since Christmas.

They also had a good 20/20 campaign just missing out on the semi-finals.

Chris Hansberry had a fine season with 38 wickets and 379 runs (in all competitions).

He was supported well in the bowling department by Glenn Stockden with 33 wickets and Andrew Holder with 29 wickets (in all competitions).

Calum How made 7 half centuries in amassing 749 runs in a very good season with bat and gloves (in all competitions).

Alex Malcolm scored 563 runs and Aaron Lilly 520.

We lacked a genuine fast strike bowler and the development of Cameron Green will be an important facet in the next few seasons if we are to be regular premiership contenders.

The 2nd grade managed to keep their spirits up despite losing their first 5 matches. Four of these were tiny margins that sadly killed off much chance of finals cricket. They finished 13th.

Josh Parker was rewarded with 1st grade selection for consistent performances with the bat and shows a good temperament.

Drew Watson finished his season on a high with scores of 96, 25, 129 and 71.

Jacob Evans showed his all-round ability in various teams this year making 489 runs and claiming 23 wickets.

He also showed a great 'club first' attitude turning up to bowl to the 3rd grade before his hockey practice during the 3rd grades finals campaign.

Tim Montelone, Alex Malcolm, Andrew Holder, Aaron Lilly, Adam Ellis, Sam Pearce, Gianni Di Rosso, Jackson Edmonstone and Coby Edmonstone also came to help the 3rds preparation. My thanks to them and apologies if I have missed anyone.

I want to mention Jackson and Coby again as they have been a delight to have around the club with their enthusiasm since arriving from Singapore.

This season Schoolboys Michael Hart, Jack Retallack and Riley Morgan all had their first taste of 2nd and showed good promise which is exciting for the Club’s future.

Josh May and Hamish McKenzie are also two young batsmen with bright futures that we can expect many runs from in the years to come.

The 3rd grade had a tremendous season and were losing finalists in a rain affected final.

Cam O'Brien had a wonderful first season as captain and took 34 wickets including 6-12 in the semi-final against University.

Season 2015/16 39th Annual Report Page 8

SUBIACO FLOREAT CRICKET CLUB (Inc)

It has been a pleasure to witness Jake Colvin’s whole hearted attitude and effort all season. He ended with 32 wickets in an excellent season.

Nick Powe took 6 wickets s off 26 overs in the final and with dedication to his fitness could push for 1st grade honours.

Sam Reed is also showing the talent required to play at a high level one day.

Under 15's player Jamie Collins made a half which was also a highlight of the season in 3rd grade.

The 4th grade were only 11pts short off playing finals cricket but slipped to a final position of 12th.

Gianni 'doss' Di Rosso does a fantastic job of captaining an ever changing side and I sincerely hope he continues in this key role for the club.

He also took wickets and made runs. His enthusiasm is infectious and he helps the young players enjoy their cricket.

He was well supported by Raman Singh, Luke Parker and Ben Massey with the ball.

The batting did not fire often enough but Daniel Wells produced a fine century and earnt higher selection.

A few under 17's and 15's had the opportunity to play senior cricket and Kiran Prashanth made his first senior hall century.

We were short in the wicket keeping department this season and this was a general weakness in the lower grades but thank you for the effort shown by all players that gave this tough job a go. Ben Hotchkin finished the season well with bat and gloves and made the most of his opportunity.

My thanks to Ken Lilly (bowling) and Liam Davis (batting) who have been part of the coaching team and contributed so much.

I am looking forward to working with some players in the off season and seeing everyone back hopefully for pre-season.

To the committee and all match day helpers the work you do is hugely appreciated by all.

A big thank you and congratulations to Bruce and Scottie McLean for the wonderful wickets.

To the captains thank you for your efforts all season and also Simon Heyting for being a hard working chairman of selectors.

Finally, to all players for their effort thank you.

Dermot Reeve – Senior Coach

1st Grade Report

The season 2015/16 was disappointing in terms of overall result however promising as we look towards the future. After a disappointing start which saw us in last position at the Christmas break we fought back hard and did not lose another game for the season which resulted in us finishing 7th, a mere two points out of the top six.

The turnaround came about as a result in the shift of the team culture, we re-ignited our passion for the contest and various individuals stood up at crunch moments to put us in positions to close out matches – something that was previously lacking.

As historically has been the case, our limited over form was superior to the longer form, we were able to make the semi-finals in both competitions, unfortunately we faltered at each of these hurdles, but have learnt much from the experience.

Our one day results were mixed in the initial rounds but after Christmas we hit our straps, notching three consecutive wins to propel us into the finals, these wins were characterised by fantastic overall team performances rather than individual success. Sadly, this run came to an end as we travelled to Lark Hill sporting complex to contest the semi-final, in this clash we were outplayed by Rockingham who got on top early and did not give us a chance to recover.

Our T20 form was excellent throughout the preliminary stages, contributions from Alex Malcom, Andrew Holder and England international David Willey saw us clinch a finals birth where we travelled to Bunbury for a double header. We easily accounted for our first opponents Bunbury however Willetton proved too strong in a tight clash with Matt Johnston (Willetton) striking a six on the final ball of the game to win the match.

Of the batsman we had a number of individuals put their hands up at various times however Calum How and Aaron Lilly were the stand out performers, both consistently delivered performances when they were needed and were integral in our change of fortunes throughout the latter stages of the season. Calum How impressed so much with his form he was awarded a position in the WADCCI team of the year, a great reward and well deserved recognition for his hard work and consistent performance.

The bowlers were solid once again with Glenn Stockden leading the attack. Glenn has been outstanding now for a number of seasons and it was pleasing to see him reap the rewards and take over 30 wickets – the first time in his career. Andrew Holder was another stand out performer, his consistent and match winning performances throughout the shorter form were integral to the team making each semi-final. Ash Blake showed patches of brilliance and was back to his best towards the latter stages of the season however injury plagued him throughout the opening rounds which hampered his preparation. It is pleasing to see that the bowling group continues to develop and work with each other in partnerships to the benefit of the team as a whole.

We had a number of debutants throughout the season, each equipped themselves well and have learnt much from the experience, congratulations to Cameron Green, Angus McKenzie and Lewis Gregory for earning their first caps.

We are all very excited as we look to the future, we have had a number of young players come onto the scene and make their mark this year. Cameron Green, Jake Evans and Josh Parker have a great future at the Club and we are eager to see them develop as men and players so that in several years’ time they can lead the club into the next era and continue the Club’s success well into the future.

I’d like to thank the committee for all their work throughout the season to enable the players to focus on playing the game they love. Without these volunteers the club would not be able to function. Thank you to the coaching staff, Dermot Reeve, Liam Davis and Ken Lilly for their efforts all year and also to Simon Heyting (chairman of selectors) who assisted us to navigate the trick task of choosing a balanced side each week. Finally, a special thank you must also go to Gianni Di Rosso and Same Pearce who organised some lovely decanters for the presentation evening.

2nd Grade Report

Five fresh faces fronted up for round one of the 2015/16 second grade season. First challenge was to navigate the two hour round journey to Rockingham-Mandurah for a 50-over fixture. Nick Powe burst onto the WACA second grade scene, taking 3/20 from 10 overs & Jake Evans bowled economically (2/9, 8 overs). Sam Pearce (58) was the best with the bat, but with the batsmen misfiring, 131 was always going to be difficult to defend.

Three 50-over fixtures were played during the following two weekends. Rounds two, three and four saw the side narrowly lose to University in the 49th over, unable to chase down Gosnell’s total and fall 3 runs short of reigning in Melville’s target. During these 50-over fixtures, SFCC legend Steve Glew retuned to Floreat Oval to add experience to the team, but it was Josh Parker’s all-round effort of 50 and 3/11 from 7 overs against University that stood out. Nick Powe (3/36, 7 overs against Melville) continued to destroy opposition top orders and the always clean hands of Josh May notched up 10 dismissals in 3 games with the gloves!

Round five saw the two-day fixtures commence against Fremantle. The side was bolstered by the inclusion of two old-heads, Jim Sansalone (4/36 from 16 overs) and Tim Monteleone (80) as well as four 2nd grade debutants; Cam O’Brien (3/32, 10 overs), new gloveman Sam Reed (40), Jake Colvin and Adam Ellis. The boys were only 7-wickets down at stumps but fell 13 runs shy of Fremantle’s target. Dogged opening batsman John Stoykovski set the run-chase up with 59.

A clinical team effort saw the 2nd grade notch our first ‘W’ of the season against Bayswater-Morley in round six. A 100-run opening between Baillie Waller (57) and John Stoykovski lay the foundation for a total that Bayswater-Morley couldn’t reel in.

Birds swimming under the sightscreen didn’t distract Jake Colvin (4/49, 13.3 overs) from setting a new benchmark for himself during our round seven draw with Wanneroo. Round eigth saw the team suffer a heavy loss to future grand finalist, .

The Christmas break rejuvenated the team (especially the skipper who spent two weeks in Hawaii), and the round nine and ten Saturday / Sunday, 50-over fixtures against Midland-Guildford and Scarborough saw the side return two dominate performances. After posting 194 with the bat, Jason Hart (3/13, 6 overs) and John Stoykovski (4/14, 4.1 overs) dismantled Midland-Guildford’s batting line up, steamrolling through them for 57 inside 21 overs. Ben Parker and Jake Evans rounded out a faultless performance with a direct hit run-out each.

We fronted up to Scarborough on Sunday, one man down after a big Saturday night. Cameron O’Brien answered a SOS call an hour before the game and returned his personal best 2nd grade figures of 4/28 from 7 overs. Combining with Jake Evans they took the last four wickets for just one run. The run chase was smooth and clinical, Cam Green led the way, showing maturity beyond his years. He raised his bat for 54 and combined with Josh Parker in a partnership that saw us comfortably complete the run chase in 47 overs for the loss of 6 wickets.

Josh Parker (56) continued his good form in the round eleven 50-over clash against Willetton. His innings was the only highlight however, as we were unable to defend 188.

Season 2015/16 39th Annual Report Page 12

SUBIACO FLOREAT CRICKET CLUB (Inc)

While there weren’t ducks swimming on the field (only featuring amongst the Claremont-Nedlands batting card), rain did see the round twelve fixture end in a draw. Jake Evans (5/55, 19 overs) landed the first 5-wicket haul of the 2nd grade season and Tom Moscarda (4/78, 25.4 overs) did a mountain of work while nursing a bout of jetlag.

The highlight of our round thirteen match against Mt Lawley was dubbed by Jason Hart as a ‘coming of age’ spell by Angus McKenzie who reaped the rewards of a month’s worth of quality chinaman bowling. His 7/52 from 25.2 overs were the SFCC’s best 2nd grade bowling figures by a spinner since Tim Silinger took 7/37, nine years ago. For the record, our batting was disappointing as we stumbled in the run chase and saw ourselves batting a second time before the game was called off early.

Rounds fourteen and fifteen saw the Drew Watson show roll into town. His run-a-ball 129 against Joondalup was the batting highlight of the 2nd grade season. Ben Hotchkin (52) notched his maiden 2nd grade half century and in the process combined with Drew for a 176 run 6th wicket partnership.

A youthful team comprising debutant Jack Retallack and six other Colts aged players fronted up to South Perth for the final round. If the composition of this round fifteen team represented a glimpse into the Club’s future, then our future will be an exciting one. Young-veteran Jim Sansalone set the standard early taking 4/48 from his 10 over spell. Drew Watson (71) and Josh May (62) seemed intent on an early finish to the season and set about destroying the South Perth attack. Josh brought up his half-century from 35 balls, reached the ten times and cleared it once in a classy innings. Drew saw the run chase over the line and notched his 200th runs in two weekends of cricket.

While 2015/16 didn’t culminate in the 2nd grade taking that one step further than we had finished the previous season at, my personal highlight was playing alongside the next generation of SFCC A-Graders. They talk a different language than ‘we did in my day’, but they share the same passion for the baggy yellow cap and Club Song as all those Club legends who’ve proudly worn and sung it at Floreat Oval before them.

Finally, congratulations to the 3rd Graders for taking their season deep into March and thank-you to; Josh Parker and Jim Sansalone who stepped in to captain the team during games I was unavailable, the senior second grade players (Jason Hart, Tom Moscarda, John Stoykovski, Perry Colyer) who lead by example, the Committee for their tireless off-field efforts, our generous sponsors, the other Grade skippers (Chris Hansberry, Cameron O’Brien & Gianni Di Rosso) for hours of entertainment at selection meetings and our Club Coach Dermot Reeve whose cricketing wisdom and positive attitude we’ve all benefited from.

3rd Grade Report

It has been my privilege to captain the 3s for the 2015/2016 season.

When taking on the captaincy I expected that there would be a few challenges to overcome. The first big challenge of the year came in Round 3 with a large number of players being unavailable due to PSA sport.

Due to limited player availability a few hasty calls were made resulting in a very memorable Round 3 game with the return of some very talented past players, all contributing with the bat, ball and a wealth of experience to post a formidable target of 309 off 45 overs. Gosnells fell short scoring 206 with Gus McKenzie snaring a hat-trick.

Thanks to all players past and present who contributed to a very memorable game with special thanks to; David Bolton (110 off 81), Ben Hansberry (79 off 109), Andrew Malajczuk (52 off 33), Steve Glew, Simon Heyting & Gavin Swan.

Another very memorable game was played in Round 13. The 3s secured an outright victory against Mt Lawley thanks to an outstanding effort from Jake Colvin taking 7/72 & 4/36 with Cam O’Brien contributing with 4/12. SFCC were the only 3rd grade team to take the full 15 points for a game this season – a great team effort escalating us up the ladder.

ELIMINATION FINAL

The elimination final saw us return to Iluka for the 2nd time this season. SFCC won the toss and batted scoring 237 with Thommo “Tracer” scoring 107. Jake Colvin and Nick Powe’s opening spells were outstanding snaring 8 wickets between them. Joondalup were all out for 150 and we were heading to Uni to play in the Prelim.

PRELIMINARY FINAL

We lost the toss and Uni sent us in to bat in light rain and dull conditions. SFCC were in trouble early at 3/5. This bought Sam Reed (40) and Rohan Quain (39) to the crease who were able to stabilize the innings with SFCC making 180. Uni started well, being 0/37 at the completion of day one. The second day saw us build pressure on the young Uni team not allowing them to score. The bowling attack was outstanding with 7 wickets falling in the morning session. The last 3 wickets fell quickly with Uni reaching 93. Cam O’Brien (6/12 off 10.3) & Jake Colvin (4/20) lead the 3s to a very memorable victory.

GRAND FINAL

Day 1 was lost to heavy rain leaving SFCC just 108 overs to claim Joondalup’s 10 wickets and then pass their total. The team toiled hard but Joondalup scored 289 leaving SFCC just 24 overs to pass the target. Nick Powe was clearly the best player of the final taking 6/78 off 26 overs, 2 catches & 20 runs.

Well done to all the players who in extremely adverse conditions gave it their best with SFCC making 144 off 20 overs.

Season 2015/16 39th Annual Report Page 14

SUBIACO FLOREAT CRICKET CLUB (Inc)

BATTING  Matt Thomson 283 runs  Cam O’Brien 211 runs  Baillie Waller 207 runs

Matt Thomson played seven 3rd grade matches this season scoring 283 runs at an average of 47.17 including 93 in Round 6 and a 107 in the Elimination Final. Following an injury-interrupted season Matt has announced his retirement - hopefully we convince him to play on.

NOTABLE INNINGS  David Bolton 110  Matt Thomson 107  Drew Watson 96  Matt Thomson 93

BOWLING Throughout the year the 3rds relied heavily on our bowling attack to see us to victory. The bowling attack showed its depth at the club with 3 players taking 20+ with 6 bowlers taking 4 or more wickets in an innings 10 times in 3rd grade. 161 wickets were taken during the 16 fixtures played.

 Jake Colvin 26 at 10.69  Cam O’Brien 25 at 13.2  Matt D’Opera 23 at 14.7

NOTABLE BOWLING PERFORMANCES  Jake Colvin 7/25 off 13.3  Cam O’Brien 6/12 off 10.3 (Preliminary Final)  Nick Powe 6/78 off 26 (Grand Final)  Matt D’Opera 5/27 off 13  Jake Colvin 5/42 off 17 (Elimination Final)

Thanks to all 45 players who represented SFCC 3s throughout the season and contributed to the 3s playing finals including SFCC’s talented under 17s players Jamie Collins, Jackson Edmonstone, Jack Retallack, Rylie Morgan & under 15 player Kiran Prashanth.

I would also like to say a big thanks to Dad (Glyn), when I asked him to fill in for a game I don’t think he expected he was going to play 11 more games for the season. Dad provided me with assistance and valuable experience that we needed in the young team throughout the season as well providing some much needed runs finishing 5th highest run scorer in 3s at the age of 50. It was a privilege to play in the final with him 29 years after he played his last 3rd grade GF.

Also thanks to the Committee for their efforts to ensure all SFCC players have an opportunity to succeed and enjoy some of the best facilities.

Finally, a big thankyou to Dermot, Ken, Liam, Simon, Chris, Sam and Dos for their assistance and guidance throughout the year.

4th Grade Report

[Played 13, Won 5, Draws 2, Lost 6, Points 38, Position 12th, Quotient 1.0

The much anticipated 2015/16 season arrived with new coach Dermot Reeve, new ideas and philosophies about our great game. I would like to thank Dermot for his coaching this year, I personally benefitted as I was able to have him play 2 games with me in the 4’s. It was very enjoyable to have played with a cricketer of his experience and to see the boys in the change rooms post game listening to his assessment of the result as to why we won or lost. Thanks Dermot!

Another reason why I thoroughly enjoyed this season was the appointment of Simon Heyting as chairman of selectors. Simon was professional all summer and organised all grades with a minimum of fuss (or so it seemed on the surface). Thanks Simon!

A big thank you also goes out to Cameron Gent and Andrew Wilson, coaches of the 15’s and 17’s respectively. Together they provided 16 juniors and all of them played a part in our success throughout the season. This is a major reason why I continue to play cricket, to introduce these juniors to senior cricket and to pass on the traditions of our club to them. Nothing beats seeing a junior take his first senior wicket, take a catch, save four runs in the field, be part of a or smash a ball to the fence.

The 4’s had a total of 38 players play 4th grade this season, thus ensuring that there were on average 3 to 4 changes every game with 3 to 4 new players every game. This does make it challenging to get continuity in a side and to build momentum towards the finals. We did give it our best and only missed out on the top 6 by 11 points. Losing our last 3 games was disappointing as we were in the 6 up until that stage, we then slid from 5th to 12th by seasons end.

In every cricket match whether you win or lose there is a moment that determines the result. The boys still need to learn and understand this and seize that moment more often than not. This occurs every season and it will never change for any side in any grade in any competition. We must improve this part of our game to play finals cricket.

The 4’s batting yielded one unbeaten century from Daniel Wells v Willeton 108 no and eight 50’s. Not enough partnerships were established in the crucial moments in games and wickets were lost in clumps. Whilst we posted competitive scores, if we had more partnerships, we would have easily been able to defend a higher score rather than losing matches in the last over eg. University and Midland.

Wellsy in his first season opened the batting in 8 games and with Jono Dean 73 no, put on an unbroken partnership of 185 to chase down Willeton’s 9/210 in the 42nd over in a clinical display of partnership batting. We also defeated the premiers from 2014/15- Perth after being 8/56 Coby Edmondstone (in his 2nd senior game) and Raman “Jazz” Singh put on 77 for the 9th wicket and then Coby and Matt Blake put on 35 for the 10th wicket to post a competitive score of 168 on a wicket doing plenty. We then had Perth 3/6 at stumps off 6 overs. Jazz and Luke Parker in his 1st year at Subi, then took 9 wickets between them to rout Perth for 98. This was an incredible victory.

The 4’s bowling attack again had a great year and definitely is the strength of our side. With Luke Parker 20 wkts @ 23.70, Jazz 17 @ 15.24, Ben Massey 9 @ 14.33, Connor Gent 8 @ 14.63 we only conceded 300 plus runs twice; v Wanneroo 6/345 dec and Joondalup 306. Against Wanneroo we did drop 2 of their batsmen in one over and they both made hundreds. Catches win matches! There were 4 bags of 5 wickets

with Luke Parker 5/34 v Bayswater Morley, Jazz 5/28 v Perth, Ben Massey 5/31 v Mount Lawley and Dos 5/18 v Fremantle all dominating with the ball in hand on their day. Our fielding overall was good with no more than a dozen catches/half chances put down throughout the season. Our ground fielding was superb all season except for the last game v South Perth where I was mostly to blame with starting the rot.

Thank you to all my team mates for giving 100% effort and wearing the Lion on your heart with pride. We all still have improvements to make, so next year, let’s make it happen!

Finally, thank you to the committee for your on-going support and for the opportunity to captain the 4th grade for another season. It is a privilege and an honour to do so and I don’t take it for granted.

Colts Report

This year of Colts cricket proved that the future of Subiaco Floreat is bright. We had many young up and coming players contributing and excelling this season, with the likes of Cameron Green, Josh May, Hamish Mackenzie, Ben Parker, Michael Hart, Riley Morgan and Ben Hotchkin coming into their own. Being that only Nick Powe and myself will be the only ones departing the colts next season we can expect much success in the future years.

Although the SFCC Colts didn’t progress through to the finals there were many positives to take out of the season. Individual performances include; Cam Green 113* vs Melville, Jonno Dean’s 5/39 vs Joondalup, and consistent runs for Josh May and Ben Parker. This season we comfortably defeated the Colts premiers in Melville and pumped Joondalup, chasing down 262 in 44 overs. These wins were great for us and showed the younger players to trust their talent, which will provide them with confidence going in to the future years.

The success and development of the Colts wouldn’t have been possible without the support of Perry Colyer, Sacha May, Keith Blake and Gianni Di Rosso. Perry took on the coaching role providing the colts with knowledge and an “inspiring” speech at every opportunity possible. With the help from Gianni, they made each and every colts game as enjoyable as possible.

This Colts season was one of my most enjoyable seasons of cricket and I would like to thank all those involved, including the players, parents, supporters, coaches and managers. I wish the Colts boys the best of luck in the next season and I’m sure that there is a premiership in the not so distant future for the Subiaco Floreat Colts.

Under 17’s Report

Season 2015/16 was somewhat disjointed due to the usual issues with availability of the boys. Whilst this may mean not always having the strongest side possible, it does provide plenty of opportunity, not only in just being selected, but also enabling players to bat in higher positions & be relied upon to bowl a full quota of overs.

As a general rule runs were hard to come by with any regularity, but special mention to Jack Retallick who batted well & generally made runs in the games he was available. He made a couple of good fifties under difficult circumstances & really held the innings together. Jamie Collins is another one to keep an eye on, opening the batting he displayed a sound technique & a level of maturity that was impressive for a first year 17’s player. Tom Wilson had a mixed year based on results, opening the batting he was only dismissed twice by the opening bowlers which is a considerable feat remembering that opening the batting at 8.30am in the morning is generally not easy. Having said that, he was disappointed not to cash in on several of these starts.

Our bowling was generally quite consistent (bar the one game at Joondalup which we don’t need to go into any detail!). No real stand-outs other than Jack Retallack’s 7-30 against Willetton. Steady performers all season were Jayden Leach & Mitch Adamos, whilst once again, the leg spin of Jamie Collin’s is worth watching. Tom Wilson realised a lifelong dream of bowling in a districts game, which culminated in his final 3 balls all being dispatched over the boundary.

Fielding wise, as a rule we were OK. Jamie Collins & Jack Retallack were stand outs and Edrich Liang is surely the quickest player across the ground in recent history. Special mention to Matthew Swain who performed admirably as our keeper. Both his batting & keeping improved as the season progressed, and like all keepers, he always had something to say.

Well done to Tom Wilson as skipper, it is not an easy job, but he displayed sound tactics throughout the season.

On a personal note I have thoroughly enjoyed my past 4 seasons as coach & look forward to seeing the progression of the boys as they enter senior cricket. There is some real talent coming thru & am confident this will serve the club well in the near future. My last game (1 dayer v South Perth) was a real joy to have the boys who have been with since 14’s (Tom, Jordan, Jack, Max, Brodee, Jayden, Mitch) all play, it is a memory that will stay with me.

As usual, many thanks to the committee, president, team managers & curators, who all contribute to the successful running of the club.

Under 15’s Report

The 2015-16 season was a great season for development and experience for the playing group. Players were given opportunities in various positions in the batting and bowling order. Some grabbed opportunities with energy and drive; others didn’t and will need to grab future opportunities when given them.

Cricket is a tough game and a real test of character. As young men, cricket is a real test of strength of will, determination, commitment to self-improvement both individually and in a team and in the end, after all of this, the enjoyment and satisfaction of overcoming formidable opponents in often challenging environmental and competitive circumstances.

The team had many opportunities to win games during the season and had many of the top teams in trouble but was not able to get over the line with victories on several occasions. This is valuable experience and the players know it is up to them to think about what could have been, to learn from this and decide whether individually or when in a team in the future to allow opposing individuals and teams off the hook or to relentlessly and aggressively strive for victory for and with their team, within the spirit of the game of course.

Batting- This season the batting was again lead by our Captain, Kiran Prashanth, who also won the WACA award for club champion in our squad. Kiran achieved three high half centuries. He had support at various times by others achieving half centuries including Nick Kane with two and Connor Gent with one. There were some dogged knocks during the season also by Marcus Gavan, Coby Edmondstone, Jaxon Geddes and in the opening position, Matt Foster and Mitch Repsevicius.

Bowling- Our bowling was excellent this season and we saw some high quality in all aspects of the bowling discipline. Ranoul Ratnawibhushana had a superb season almost topping the aggregate for the district at a very low average. Connor Gent bowled with extreme pace when he wasn’t injured and took some high quality wickets. Marcus Gavan also bowled with pace and showed good form before suffering a significant knee injury. Coby Edmondstone gave us a very high-class exhibition of off spin bowling throughout the season. Andrew Nicholson came into the team just before Christmas and showed us just how useful left arm orthodox bowling in more than capable hands can be. The quality of this duo meant that Matt Foster who bowls very handy leg spin didn’t get as much opportunity as perhaps he would in a different team. The medium pace of Kade Lines and Rob Powell gave us a lot of economical overs and at times vital wickets.

Fielding- The ground fielding was excellent this season and the aggression in this regard grew commendably during the season. Our season really hinged on our catching and as the cliché goes, “ Catches win….” The squad generally must work hard on this in the next season.

Country Connection- A great part of this season was the addition of two members of the squad from Albany after Christmas in Lachie O’Shea and Aiden Dallimore. Lachie brought his strength as an all rounder with medium fast pace bowling, strong middle order batting and athletic fielding. Aiden brought the highest quality of wicket keeping that I have seen at this age group.

Kiran Prashanth, Connor Gent, Andy Nicholson, Coby Edmondstone, Kade Lines, Nick Kane and Matt Foster all played grade cricket this year all acquitting themselves with great energy and effort with some significant performances amongst the group.

It has been a pleasure coaching the squad for the last three years and I look forward to watching them further develop and achieve in the seventeens and grades into the future.

Brilliant effort by our boys to finish third in the season.

The season was defined by the Subi-U14’s squad developing a strong belief in their ability as a team and capacity to consistently find a way to win. After finishing top of the Northern Conference, we unfortunately could not contain Willetton in the Semi-Final. The team ultimately finished the season 3rd after beating Claremont Nedlands in the consolation final for 3rd and 4th place.

The team’s greatest strength has been in its spirit and intensity in the field - both bowling and fielding. We regularly held teams to low scores with many fine contributions. Four players: Griffin Binning, Jacob Van der Meulen, Mitchell Georgiades and Francois Helberg took more than 10 wickets in the season; and together with Jayson Spencer, Euan Gallagher and Michael Humphryson all of our main seam bowlers achieved an economy rate of less than 3 runs and over. Sustained pressure and good catching kept the runs required by our batters to a very manageable total every week.

There were many notable spells of bowling – Mitchell and Jayson combined to break Midland Guildford’s innings open with two wickets in the first two overs, resulting in bowling them out for 75 in a must win top of the table clash; Euan contained Wanneroo at the death and got two wickets; Will Cornish mesmerised with leg spin and contained Scarborough over 10 overs to set up the win; Francois steamed in and regularly got set batsmen out especially in crunch moments against Scarborough, Wanneroo and Midland Guildford; Jacob bowled tight wicket taking spells every game including 3/6 against Scarborough; Michael steamed in 3rd change in in his first game after a broken arm and had the batsmen ask “where did he come from”; and Griffin’s swing got regular wickets including 6/16 against Centurions. When the part-time spinners were allowed they relished the opportunity – Fraser Jaffery, Ethan Chivers and Harry Gilshrist (long live loopy leg-spin) took wickets and Nicolas Kane bowled some tight overs of off-spin.

Our batting was defined by our belief and capacity to put together many small partnerships – all the way through to number 11. The tail “wagged” reliably and regularly to support a top order that was often set, but as a team struggled to build partnerships of more than 50 runs. Jacob, Ethan and Fraser all averaged more than 25 runs. Highlights included Cambell Geddes and Jacob regularly getting the run-rate up in the first 10 overs; Fraser showing he can bat with patience and persistence at no. 3; Jacob scoring 105 against Wanneroo; Ethan scoring 66 in the heat against Joondalup; Nick showing all of his potential with a fine 46 in the last game; Harry stepping up with 46 when needed and building a partnership with Jayson to win the game against Midland Guildford; Charlie Hurst batting with the bowlers to set a competitive total against Centurions; Bray Lyon, Francios, Mitchell, Michael and Will regularly getting runs at the death. All of the team developed their batting throughout the year and the team has five or more players capable of breaking through 50 runs next year.

Our good results were achieved by all of the team believing that collectively and individually we would step up to meet the challenge – the Subi-Spirit was strong and delivered a win on several close occasions. Thanks to all of the parents for a great year, experiences and awesome afternoon teas.

We have all had a blast with an outstanding group of young men.

Under 13’s Report (Inverarity Shield)

The season will be remembered for great highs, occasional lows and opposition gamesmanship but overall the boys should be proud of what they achieved by finishing top of the ladder.

The regular season began with the amazing feat of bowling out Bayswater-Morley for just 38 and who would have believed that these two sides would finish first and second on the ladder in the end. It all started with the compelling sight of Matthew (Scully) Sculthorpe claiming the first four wickets as he bowled with pace and swing to leave the batsmen shell-shocked. The rest of the bowlers finished off the job but the weather closed in and the boys were unjustly left frustrated within a few runs of the target. The tone had been set and the boys played with passion and intensity throughout the rest of the season.

There were some excellent individual performances and Tom Murray consistently starred with both bat and ball, bowling seam or spin as the team required and even occasionally keeping wicket in an emergency. It was his batting that really distinguished him though and his two highest scores of 80 and a mature 51 ensured victory for the side in difficult circumstances. Tom promises to become a real star for the club for many years to come.

Joey Betts made a huge impression on his team and also on the opposition. Whenever Joey was at the wicket he looked imperious, with two good scores of over fifty and an average that places him as one of the best players in his age group the statistics are impressive. As ever though, the figures don’t say it all and Joey’s ability, positive attitude and presence at the wicket mark him out as a batsman to watch for the future.

Tatenda Makova impressed hugely in his first season with the club with his exciting pace bowling and hard hitting stroke-play. “T” as he is known, has brought another dimension to an already strong group. Tom Love also contributed strongly to the team with both bat and ball before injury disrupted his season, his almost telepathic running with his equally talented brother Oscar promises to be an exciting spectacle for many years to come.

However, playing well and finishing top of the ladder in the regular season don’t mean that silverware is guaranteed. The team couldn’t maintain the same momentum into the finals and ended with two defeats. Lessons were learned and the boys all matured as cricketers through it all, enough for the squad to be optimistic about next season already.

The season won’t have finished without any reward though. Matthew Sculthorpe maintained his bowling form from beginning to end and claimed the most wickets (19) and best average for all players in the whole competition. Add this to his batting and electric fielding and the picture emerges of an excellent all round player within a talented squad.

With important contributions from Dylan van der Meulen, Ben Healy, Dean Grove, Evan Vellar, Jett Boshard and Will Foster there is much to look forward to. The future also looks bright for the next generation when Sam Vucak, Matthew Quadrio and Richard Walton add their first season’s experience to the U’13’s next year.

The players all developed their skills, showed a great attitude and offered their thanks to the huge support given by Ronan Murray as Assistant Coach, Nicky Sculthorpe as Manager and all of the parents for their involvement. A great effort from everyone and a fantastic season to remember.

Female A Grade Report

Most would say a season to forget for the A Grade girls this season, however I believe there were many outstanding performances and moments to remember. Although it was one of our worst statistically, we had some individuals who stared, we united as a squad and showed our passion and Subi spirit.

T20 Competition: We saw some standout performances from Heather Graham 60 (58) in Rd 1, Kate Burns 3/13 off 4 in Rd 2, bowling South Perth out for 31 in Rd 3 (Emma King 5/6 off 4), Nicole Bolton 64 (60) & Megan Banting 51 (56) owned Rd 4 and Shenae Reichelt 3/28 off 4 in Rd 6. Familiar faces continued their great form in the second half of the competition with Bolton 88 (61) & Banting 57 (59) in Rd 7 and Bolton again dominated with 74 (60) & 2/9 off 4 in Rd 11. Unfortunately, with only 4 wins in the T20 format, we did not give ourselves a chance to defend our title for 3 in a row.

50 Over Competition: Sadly, our team’s form continued during the One-dayers, not managing to qualify for a final in either format. Nonetheless, we still had some excellent performances throughout the competition including Banting 60 (74) & Graham 66 (92) in Rd 1, Bolton outstanding again 3/45 off 9 & 100 (118) in Rd 3, Gemma Triscari stood up in Rd 4 (17) & Rd 5 (31) with the bat, King 3/19 off 10 & Graham 39 (57) almost helped the team win in Rd 5. However, the stand out game was left until last, as we finished the season in a thriller against our archrivals Melville. Bolton outdid herself with 152 (130) to help SFCC post 241, 2 exciting run outs in the last over lead to Melville needing 1 off the last 2 balls of the match. Unfortunately, there was no fairy tale finish for Burns in her last over, although we left the ground with our heads held high knowing we had left nothing on the pitch to end the season fighting hard. A touching guard of honour by all female A grade clubs was a special tribute for our legend Kate Burns in her final game. Our club will never be the same without our mother Burns!!

A Grade Top 5: 1. Nicole Bolton = 845 pts 2. Megan Banting = 429 pts 3. Heather Graham = 413 pts 4. Kate Burns = 359 pts 5. Shenae Reichelt = 311 pts

To say we were excited to have Nicole Bolton back would be a massive understatement. Bolton had another successful year representing Australia for the Southern Stars, recently retaining the Rose Bowl Trophy in . Additionally, Megan Banting and Heather Graham are currently overseas in Sri Lanka for an u23’s Australian tour. A massive congratulation to these three ladies on their outstanding achievements this season.

Bolton (Captain), Banting, Graham and King represented the in the inaugural WBBL tournament, while Triscari shined for the Stars. All of these players also represented for the Western Fury in the 2015/16 season.

We had some exciting debutants, stand outs were Lauren Nicholson and Jess Emery (both 17yrs old) who will no doubt shine for us in the near future. Also, It would be unjust to not mention the very poor fixturing for female grade cricket this season. As 6 games clashed with state matches, our normally strong club side took a beating. A huge shout out to our B grade girls, who rallied together to fight for our 2 teams. It was a whole squad effort this year and I believe we did incredibly well considering we were missing 11 players for a large part of the season (5 state players, 2 injured, 4 left the club).

Finally, and most importantly, thank you to Megan Banting for Co-Coordinating the female sides with me, our club would not function without you!

Female B Grade Report

We continued on our developing rollercoaster ride this season, finishing with a lot more highs than last!

T20 Competition: Lizzy Alderson 51 (49) lead the way in Rd 2, before our 2nd win for the club came charging through in Rd 3! Lucy Curtin 47* (47) and Alderson 46 (35) chased down the win in the 15th over! Sophie Fletcher 2/17 off 4 and Emily Johnston 30 (25) stared in Rd 6 to finish off the top performances.

40 Over Competition: R2 we smashed Rockingham-Mandurah AGAIN to claim our 3rd win for the club! Hannah Steel 62* and Laura Thomas 3/11 off 5.1 hadn’t missed a beat, while Maria Janes 2/12 off 4 & Jess Whiteaker 2/27 off 4 proved the hard work pays off. Whiteaker 24 (59) also top scored in Rd 3, while Dani Vandenbok and Catherine Clissold-Jones lead the bowling front with 4 wickets each in the competition.

B Grade Top 5: 1. Lucy Curtin = 358 pts 2. Lizzy Alderson = 254 pts 3. Sophie Fletcher = 150 pts 4. Dani Vandenbok = 148 pts 5. Catherine Clissold-Jones = 141 pts

Every year we are lucky enough to find some new faces, this year we welcomed debutants Sam McClurg, Belinda Thompson, Ashleigh Beaman and Ray Olsen. Not only did we welcome these new faces, but also the amazing return of some old and beloved ones including Lucy Curtin, Emily Johnston, Kirsty Large, Amy Buchanan, Hannah Steel, Zoe Oldfield and Laura Thomas.

The A’s and B’s united again this year, showing we are a strong club when we stick together. It was an enormous effort to get 2 teams on the park for the reasons listed in the A Grade report. I am incredibly proud of our girls for their continuous fight and amazing improvement we have seen in the past 2 years. If we continue down this path, I know the trophies will soon follow.

Finally, a gigantic thank you to Calum How (B grade Coach) for all your efforts at trainings and games this year. You have made an incredible difference on and off the field to our girls and we can’t thank you enough for all of your hard work!

SUBIACO FLOREAT CRICKET CLUB (Inc)

Club History The Subiaco Floreat Cricket Club was formed in 1977 when the Subiaco and Floreat Park clubs merged.

1900 to 1949 A cricket club in the Subiaco area was first formed in 1896 and played in the Senior Matting Association based at the Shenton Park Lake ground. In 1907-08 the Subiaco Club was admitted to the WACA A Grade competition but after two seasons were relegated to B Grade. During this time the Club moved to the newly developed Mueller Park in Subiaco where at the western end (later Subiaco Oval) they shared the playing fields with the Subiaco Football Club.

In the 1910-11 season, Subiaco combined with fellow B Grade team; Whittaker’s and was re-admitted to A Grade as the Subiaco Cricket Club. The following season Subiaco merged with the neighbouring Leederville club to form the Subiaco-Leederville Cricket Club and played under this name until 1930-31, when they reverted to Subiaco Cricket Club.

By this time Mueller Parker had been renamed Subiaco Oval and from 1929-30 the Club enjoyed sustained success winning six premierships in the 17 seasons until 1946-47. Many Subiaco players from this era represented Western Australia, in the days before WA was admitted into the Sheffield Shield competition. Future Prime Minister, R.J. Hawke, played for the Club in the post-war years.

1950 to 1977 The Subiaco Club did not enjoy team success during the 1950’s and 1960’s finishing runner-up twice and making the finals one other time. The highlight for the Club from this era was Jack Rutherford being the first Western Australian to be selected for Australia on a major tour and the first to be capped when he was included in the Australian side which visited England, India, and Pakistan in 1956. Rutherford’s single test was against India in Bombay.

In 1965-66 the Subiaco Club left Subiaco Oval and moved to Rosalie Park on the west side of Thomas Street. Jim Hubble became the Club’s second Australian representative, touring South Africa in the summer of 1966-67, playing in nine matches, but not in the Tests. During the 1960’s former England player Tony Lock played for the Club.

The Floreat Park Cricket Club was formed in the post-war years. In the 1959-60 season, Floreat Park was admitted into the WACA completion as a 2nd Grade club fielding teams in the lower grades only. Talented Floreat Park juniors seeking to play 1st Grade invariably moved to the neighbouring Subiaco Club. Notable Floreat Park juniors who made the move to Subiaco were Kim Hughes, and Sam Gannon who all played Tests for Australia.

The recruitment of former Australian player Des Hoare as Captain-Coach in the late 1960’s saw the Subiaco Club play in the finals four times in seven years, winning Premierships in 1971-72 and 1973-74. However while the Subiaco Club was competitive at 1st Grade level, a small district and declining junior player numbers saw the Subiaco Club merge with the 2nd Grade Floreat Park Club. The Club was named Subiaco Floreat Cricket Club and commenced playing in the 1977-78 season.

The last match played between the two clubs was the 1976-77 4th grade grand final where the Subiaco 4th’s captained by future President Larry Davies triumphed.

The amalgamation was a true merger with administrators and players from both Clubs sharing the roles. The new Club’s headquarters was Floreat Oval, with Rosalie Park retained as the second ground (until 1981) along with Floreat’s Alderbury Street Reserve. Subiaco’s Lion emblem and gold and maroon colours were combined with the royal blue of Floreat Park, but there was no room for the Floreat Park grey.

1977 to 1999 WA Parliamentarian Ray Young was the inaugural President and Jim Hubble the inaugural Captain of Subiaco Floreat and Terry Alderman returned to Floreat Oval but the first season did not bring instant success. During the following three season the Club were runners-up twice and semi-finalists once, as well as being Club Champions in 1978-79. All-rounder, Graeme Porter played for Australia in the 1979 World Cup.

1st grade success was finally achieved in the 1987-88 where a strong squad including Test players Terry Alderman and Tom Hogan alongside present or future 1st class players Giles Bush, Todd Breman, Peter Gonnella and Glenn Hughes won the first 1st grade flag for the amalgamated Club and the ninth overall.

In 1983-84 future cricket broadcaster Glenn Mitchell, captained the Colts undefeated for nine matches to capture the Club’s first Colts Premiership.

The 1980’s decade was overall successful, in addition to the 1st grade and Colts, the Club also won a 2nd grade and a 3rd grade flag, while the 4ths won a hat-trick of flags under the wily leadership of club stalwart Alan Bolton.

The 1990’s were fairly lean for the 1st grade with only three final appearances. However this decade saw the debut of Bunbury junior, Murray Goodwin, who would go on to play for his native Zimbabwe. In 1990-91 all four senior sides qualified for the finals and the Club was once again Club Champion. The lower grades continued to be successful in this decade, the 2nds and 4ths both won two flags each as did the Colts. The 1997-98 Colts were captained by Steven Glew in his first of seven Premierships for the Club.

2000 onwards The 21st Century began with a bang. Under the inspiring leadership of fast bowler Gavin Swan, the 1st grade team won three successive premierships from 2000-01. The 1sts competed in the finals in eight times in the first decade of the new century. The dominance of the 1st grade team in this period saw the Club also claim the Club Championship in successive seasons 2000-01 and 2001-02. The Colts added three more flags to their collection, while the 3rds with two flags and the 4ths with one continued the success of the lower grade teams. In the One Day Sunday League competition, the Club finally found a winning formula, winning titles in 2004-05 and 2008-09.

Success continued into the 2010’s. Under David Bolton the 1st grade did the “double”, winning both the Pennant competition and the One Day League in 2010-11. The following season, the Club finished runners-up after losing a close grand final. The 1st grade bowling attack was particularly strong with fast bowlers Nathan Coulter-Nile and Jason Behrendorff operating. Coulter-Nile has gone on to represent both WA and Australia while Behrendorff debuted for WA in 2011.

The 3rd grade won a flag in 2012-13 and in the following season with Noel Knight returning to the Club as Head Coach the 1st grade once again won the Sunday League Championship

2014/15 saw the Club expand when the local WA Female Cricket Council A and B grade teams elected to join Subiaco Floreat. It was a homecoming of sorts, as back in the 1970’s the Subiaco men’s and women’s cricket clubs shared the facilities at Rosalie Park. The ladies made an immediate impact, winning the T20 final at the WACA ground.
