POWER OUTAGE...The Sharks currently own the best penalty kill unit in the NHL, killing off 92.3% of their disadvantages. San Jose is the only team in the NHL over 90% this season, and hold a perfect 15-15 kill rate at home (100%, first) and are 89.6% on the road (26- 29), good for fifth in the NHL. The Sharks have also allowed the least amount of total power-play goals in the league with three. Dating back to the start of the 2015-16 season, the Sharks sport the fourth-best penalty kill unit at 82.2% with Marc-Edouard Vlasic leading all Sharks skaters in PK TOI (760:83) and Melker Karlsson leading Sharks forwards (422:24). Karlsson also has the most amount of shorthanded blocked shots in that span with 43.

MODEL OF CONSISTENCY…Since being named the team’s general manager on May 13, 2003, Doug Wilson has strategically built the San Jose Sharks into one of the NHL’s top franchises through strong drafting, shrewd trades and timely free agent signings. In his 15 seasons in charge of the Sharks hockey department, Wilson has guided the team to its most successful era since the franchise’s inception, capturing a Presidents’ Trophy (2009), five Pacific Division titles, advancing to the Western Conference Final on five occasions (2004, 2010, 2011, 2016, 2019) and appearing in the Final (2016). In his tenure as general manager, San Jose co-leads NHL clubs in Stanley Cup Playoff rounds (30), tied with only Pittsburgh: RANK TEAM GP W L OT PTS PTS%

1,500 GAMES...Patrick Marleau became the seventh player in NHL history to appear in 1,500 career NHL games with one NHL franchise on 10/25 at Toronto. Among the players who have reached the 1,500 game plateau with one team, Marleau ranks third in goals (510) and second in game-winning goals. The other skaters on the list to appear in 1,500 games with a franchise are G. Howe (1,687), N. Lidstrom (1,564), A. Delvecchio (1,550), S. Doan (1,540), R. Bourque (1,518) and S. Yzerman (1,514). His 1,501 games thus far in San Jose's 2,160 games (69.5%) is the highest percentage by a player with an NHL franchise (min. 1,000 games, from NHL PR).

DISTINCT MANAGER... Doug Wilson served his 1,200th career game as General Manager for the Sharks Franchise against the Nashville Predators on 10/8/19. He became the 24th GM in league history to reach the milestone mark and the fifth active in the NHL (D. Poile, L. Lamoriello, J. Rutherford, K. Holland). Additionally, Wilson is the 19th GM in league history to serve at least 1,200 with one franchise and the second active (D. Poile, NSH). Since his debut in 2003 as the Sharks GM, no other franchise has more wins than the Sharks (685) and Wilson ranks 19th on the NHL's all-time wins list among GMs (685).

MAKING HIS MARC... Defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic can become the first San Jose Sharks blueliner to reach 1,000 games played with the franchise this season, needing only 23 games. Vlasic's exceptional defensive abilities have been on full display over the course of his career since his debut on Oct. 5, 2006 vs. STL. Since 2011, Vlasic ranks fourth among NHL defensemen in minor penalties per 60, taking .31 penalties (min. 500 games) and leads the Sharks in the category (min. 300 games). In 13 full seasons, Vlasic has been a plus-rating in all but two. No other defenseman has more (Zdeno Chara, BOS; B. Orpik both have 11) since the 2006-07 season.

H12TORICAL F19URES... The Sharks currently sport two players who are continuing their ascents on the NHL's all-time lists in Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau. Entering this season, Thornton ranked 12th on the all-time games played list, eighth on the all-time assist list and 14th on the all-time points list. Some upcoming milestones for Jumbo include 10 assists from A. Oates (1,079) for seventh on the all-time assist list, 18 points from 1,500 NHL points and 22 games from 1,600 NHL games. Marleau signed with San Jose on 10/9 and resumed his consecutive games played streak, entering the season fifth on the all-time games played list. Some upcoming milestones include four games from 800 consecutive games played, 12 points from 1,100 points as Shark, and 35 games from 1,700 NHL games.

DOMINANT DEFENSE…Last season, the Sharks sported two defensemen who ranked in the Top-10 in assists among blueliners in Brent Burns (1st) and Erik Karlsson (9th, tied). Burns’ 83-point season was the highest total by a defenseman since the 1995-96 season and Karlsson became the fifth defenseman in NHL history to record an assist in 14 consecutive appearances. Since the start of the 2013-14 season, both Burns (421) and Karlsson (408) lead NHL blueliners in points (1st and 2nd respectively), assists (Karlsson 321, 1st; Burns 296, 2nd) and Burns leads in goals (125) while Karlsson is sixth (87). No other defenseman has more than 350 points.

'C' STANDS FOR COUTURE... The Sharks open the 2019-20 regular season with a new team captain in Logan Couture. Couture became the 10th full-time captain in team history, following J. Pavelski (2015-2019). Couture enters 11th season as a member of the Sharks after being selected in the first round (9th overall) by San Jose in the 2007 NHL Draft. He registered a career-best 70 points (27g, 43a) last season and led all skaters in goals (14) in the 2019 playoffs, despite playing six fewer games than second and third place. Couture has skated in 674 career games for San Jose, compiling 516 points (241g, 275a) and ranks fourth in goals and points, fifth in assists, and fifth in games played on the franchise's all-time list. Over the course of his career, the center was named to the NHL All-Rookie Team in 2010-11 and finished second in the Calder Trophy ballot. He represented San Jose in the 2012 All-Star game and is a two-time Sharks POTY (2011-12; 2017-18).
