Production of the FOX SPORTS News Channel will move from FOX SPORTS’ Artarmon headquarters to ANC’s Macquarie Park facility creating a combined powerhouse for breaking sports news which will now be part of a new national video hub that will serve News Corp across multiple platforms. FOX SPORTS News will join the stable of established news brands SKY NEWS LIVE, SKY NEWS BUSINESS, SKY NEWS WEATHER and Australia’s Public Affairs Channel, A-PAC, which are all produced by ANC. Foxtel subscribers will continue to access FOX SPORTS News on Channel 500 and through Foxtel Play, FOX SPORTS pubs and clubs and www.foxsports.com.au. Under the new production arrangement with ANC, FOX SPORTS News will continue its evolution as Australia’s leading LIVE sports news channel and will deliver even more live, comprehensive and up-to-the-minute breaking news coverage to sports fans. The FOX SPORTS News brand will be retained and its content will now be broadcast across more channels, including the full suite of SKY NEWS channels and through their arrangement to provide content to the Qantas In-Flight Entertainment service. The branded sports news content will also extend across the SKY NEWS international service Australia Channel. The process will begin this week with the move expected to be completed within the next three months. FOX SPORTS CEO Patrick Delany said: “FOX SPORTS News is Australia’s only 24/7 sports news channel, powering News Corp’s national websites and the number one online destination news.com.au. “ANC’s extensive news gathering capabilities and state of the art production facilities will enable it to deliver more up-to-the-minute live breaking news to sports fans than ever before. “The strengthened FOX SPORTS News Channel will continue to provide video content for FOX SPORTS’ website, the FOX SPORTS App and social channels with both teams working closely together.” Australian News Channel CEO Angelos Frangopoulos said: “Australian News Channel delivers more news and public affairs programming than 7, 9, 10, ABC and SBS combined. The addition of FOX SPORTS News to our operations will create a groundbreaking centralised national video hub which will service a range of 24 hour news channels across all platforms. “Today’s announcement will see a further investment by ANC in live Australian content. We are a business built on quality journalism and we welcome FOX SPORTS News into the fold.” FOX SPORTS Australia and Australian News Channel are 100% owned by News Corp. FOX SPORTS News staff will have the opportunity to move to Australian News Channel to produce FOX SPORTS News from the new location with a small number of redundancies expected as a result. News Corp Australia CEO Michael Miller said: “News and sport are the two sides of journalism most Australians care passionately about and today's announcement brings together the two teams with acknowledged excellence in live and breaking coverage in these core areas. “This new operation reflects News Corp Australia's determination to constantly improve the service it provides and excel in an ever more competitive media environment. “In doing so, it increases the quality and quantity of video available that reaches the greatest number of Australians across our various brands and platforms.” Further information: FOX SPORTS Australia Asha Burns 0401 348 060 Australian News Channel Emma Van Der Aa 0434 001 589 About Australian News Channel Australian News Channel operates the SKY NEWS channels including SKY NEWS LIVE, SKY NEWS BUSINESS, SKY NEWS WEATHER, SKY NEWS Multiview, A-PAC Australia’s Public Affairs Channel, SKY NEWS New Zealand and Australia Channel catering for international audiences. • Media Ownership Chart
In 1983, 50 corporations controlled the vast majority of all news media in the U.S. At the time, Ben Bagdikian was called "alarmist" for pointing this out in his book, The Media Monopoly . In his 4th edition, published in 1992, he wrote "in the U.S., fewer than two dozen of these extraordinary creatures own and operate 90% of the mass media" -- controlling almost all of America's newspapers, magazines, TV and radio stations, books, records, movies, videos, wire services and photo agencies. He predicted then that eventually this number would fall to about half a dozen companies. This was greeted with skepticism at the time. When the 6th edition of The Media Monopoly was published in 2000, the number had fallen to six. Since then, there have been more mergers and the scope has expanded to include new media like the Internet market. More than 1 in 4 Internet users in the U.S. now log in with AOL Time-Warner, the world's largest media corporation. In 2004, Bagdikian's revised and expanded book, The New Media Monopoly , shows that only 5 huge corporations -- Time Warner, Disney, Murdoch's News Corporation, Bertelsmann of Germany, and Viacom (formerly CBS) -- now control most of the media industry in the U.S. General Electric's NBC is a close sixth. • Challenging ESPN: How Fox Sports Can Play in ESPN's Arena
Challenging ESPN: How Fox Sports can play in ESPN’s Arena Kristopher M. Gundersen May 1, 2014 Professor Richard Linowes – Kogod School of Business University Honors Spring 2014 Gundersen 1 Abstract The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship ESPN has with the sports broadcasting industry. The study focuses on future prospects for the industry in relation to ESPN and its most prominent rival Fox Sports. It introduces significant players in the market aside from ESPN and Fox Sports and goes on to analyze the current industry conditions in the United States and abroad. To explore the future conditions for the market, the main method used was a SWOT analysis juxtaposing ESPN and Fox Sports. Ultimately, the study found that ESPN is primed to maintain its monopoly on the market for many years to come but Fox Sports is positioned well to compete with the industry behemoth down the road. In order to position itself alongside ESPN as a sports broadcasting power, Fox Sports needs to adjust its time horizon, improve its bids for broadcast rights, focus on the personalities of its shows, and partner with current popular athletes. Additionally, because Fox Sports has such a strong regional persona and presence outside of sports, it should leverage the relationship it has with those viewers to power its national network. Gundersen 2 Introduction The world of sports is a fast-paced and exciting one that attracts fanatics from all over. They are attracted to specific sports as a whole, teams within a sport, and traditions that go along with each sport.

INTRODUCTION By Diana Nyad For two decades, the GENDER IN TELEVISED SPORTS report has tracked the progress— as well as the lack of progress—in the coverage of women’s sports on television news and highlights shows. One of the positive outcomes derived from past editions of this valuable study has been a notable improvement in the often‐derogatory ways that sports commentators used to routinely speak of women athletes. The good news in this report is that there is far less insulting and overtly sexist treatment of women athletes than there was twenty or even ten years ago.

What Killed Australian Cinema & Why is the Bloody Corpse Still Moving? A Thesis Submitted By Jacob Zvi for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy at the Faculty of Health, Arts & Design, Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne © Jacob Zvi 2019 Swinburne University of Technology All rights reserved. This thesis may not be reproduced in whole or in part, by photocopy or other means, without the permission of the author. II Abstract In 2004, annual Australian viewership of Australian cinema, regularly averaging below 5%, reached an all-time low of 1.3%. Considering Australia ranks among the top nations in both screens and cinema attendance per capita, and that Australians’ biggest cultural consumption is screen products and multi-media equipment, suggests that Australians love cinema, but refrain from watching their own. Why? During its golden period, 1970-1988, Australian cinema was operating under combined private and government investment, and responsible for critical and commercial successes. However, over the past thirty years, 1988-2018, due to the detrimental role of government film agencies played in binding Australian cinema to government funding, Australian films are perceived as under-developed, low budget, and depressing. Out of hundreds of films produced, and investment of billions of dollars, only a dozen managed to recoup their budget. The thesis demonstrates how ‘Australian national cinema’ discourse helped funding bodies consolidate their power. Australian filmmaking is defined by three ongoing and unresolved frictions: one external and two internal. Friction I debates Australian cinema vs. Australian audience, rejecting Australian cinema’s output, resulting in Frictions II and III, which respectively debate two industry questions: what content is produced? arthouse vs.

  • Hulu Rsns FINAL
SINCLAIR REGIONAL SPORTS NETWORKS DROPPED BY HULU Baltimore, Maryland – October 23, 2020 – Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: SBGI) reported today that Hulu has decided to drop Sinclair’s 21 regional sports network brands (RSN), YES Network and Marquee, depriving its subscribers of the excitement of watching their favorite local sports teams. While Sinclair attempted to come to an amicable and fair agreement, Hulu was not willing to provide the RSNs reasonable compensation for their valuable local sports content. Starting today, the FOX Regional Sports Networks are no longer available on Hulu and consumers will have to look elsewhere to access the content. Sinclair’s RSNs can be viewed on most major cable platforms as well as DirectTV and AT&T Now. “While we offered Hulu a deal consistent with terms agreed to by other distributors, the streaming service refused to accept these fair and market-based terms,” said Barry Faber, Sinclair’s president of distribution and network relations. “It is unfortunate that Hulu has chosen to take away some of the most popular sports programming on TV from millions of subscribers.” Hulu, owned by Disney, which also owns ESPN, was forced to sell the RSNs by the Department of Justice due to competitive reasons with ESPN. Hulu still carries ESPN and also agreed to carry another of its owner’s content, Comcast RSNs, but is refusing to carry Sinclair RSNs. RSNs that will no longer be offered on Hulu include FOX Sports Arizona, FOX Sports Ohio, Sports Time Ohio, FOX Sports Detroit, FOX Sports Wisconsin, FOX Sports North, FOX Sports Kansas City, FOX Sports Midwest, FOX Sports Indiana, FOX Sports Tennessee, FOX Sports Carolinas, FOX Sports Southeast, FOX Sports South, FOX Sports Florida, FOX Sports Sun, FOX Sports New Orleans, FOX Sports Oklahoma, FOX Sports Southwest and FOX Sports San Diego, Fox Sports West and Fox Sports Prime Ticket, YES Network, and Marquee.
