Southside’s first three albums, I Don’t Want To Go Home, This Time It’s for Real and Hearts of Stone, were produced by band co-founder Steven Van Zandt (E Street Band), and largely featured songs written by Van Zandt and/or Springsteen. The Van Zandt-written I Don’t Want To Go Home became Southside’s signature song, an evocative mixture of horn- based melodic riffs and sentimental lyrics. In 1982 Rolling Stone Magazine voted Hearts of Stone among the top 100 albums of the ’70s and ’80s. With their classic blend of hard-core R&B and street-level rock, molten grooves, soulful guitar licks and blistering horn section, Johnny and his Jukes continue to put their unique stamp on the Jersey Shore sound! Gary U.S. Bonds launched his career at age 19 with a little hit called New Orleans and decades later is still as popular as ever. Touring with his group, the powerful Roadhouse Rockers, Gary performs his hits, some new songs, rockin’ R&B Blues and generally thrills audiences the world over. Don’t miss these two Rock ‘n’ Roll mainstay bands in concert for one-night-only! 1 Avenue of the Arts, 757-594-8752, www.fergusoncenter.org. This larger- than-life animatronic exhibit features six super-sized bugs: the Madagascan Sunset Moth, the Bombardier Beetle, Dragonfly, Stag Beetle, Orb-Web Spider and Say’s Firefly. There is also a caterpillar photo-op and a display of live bugs, all designed to showcase a bug’s life and why bugs are important. We need bugs just as much as they need us. They are very important to our ecosystem. The exhibit is created by Billings Productions, the creators of animatronic dinosaur exhibits. Also explore the fascinating world of invertebrates - insects, arachnids, and their kin - through beautiful color photographic banners by famed Harvard scientist/photographer Piotr Naskrecki. Naskrecki’s field research on insects has taken him to six continents, where he strives to promote appreciation and conservation of invertebrates by capturing both their beauty and roles as vital, often critically important members of the Earth’s ecosystems. “Bugs and Friends” live animal shows are presented on the weekend at noon, 1 and 2 p.m. Included with museum admission.
