RCL — Revista de Comunicação e Linguagens e Linguagens Comunicação de — Revista RCL Ghosts beneath the surface: Remnants and revenants of Palestine in the Cinema of the Interior Fantasmas sob a superfície: Os restos e espectros da Palestina no Cinema do Interior and Languages Communication of Journal ROBERT GEORGE WHITE Independent Scholar [email protected] N.53 (2020) ISSN 2183-7198 N.53 (2020) ISSN — Abstract In a 2003 interview with the Journal of Palestine Studies, the director Elia Sulieman evoked the spectre of the revenant (which appears by coming back) when explaining the pres- ence of Palestinians within Israel in terms of Israel’s being haunted by the spectre of the ‘becoming-Palestinian’ of the Israeli-Arab. This is both an allusion to a historical le- gal condition of present absence (the Knesset’s 1950 Law of Absentee Property), but also articulates—this article claims—an emerging hauntology/ontology of the cine- matic image of the Palestinian in Israel. This article argues that the contemporary cinema of Palestinians in Israel is essentially a cinema of ghosts, where temporal disjoint- edness and spatial displacement constantly disturb the project of national identity formation; from the haunting of Jaffa in the work of Kamal Aljafari, where Palestinian ‘ghosts’ are re-inscribed onto the work of Israeli director Menahem Golan, to the ghostly lacuna between Arab and Jew which haunts Amos Gitai’s Ana Arabia (2013). Drawing on Jacques Derrida’s notion of ‘the spectral’, alongside a critical analysis of what Edward Said termed al-dakhil (the interior), the article examines Palestinian interiors as ROBERT GEORGE WHITE 73 RCL — Revista de Comunicação e Linguagens e Linguagens Comunicação de — Revista RCL haunted sites. -

Eugenie Pastor-Phd Thesis Moving Intimacies
MOVING INTIMACIES: A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF “PHYSICAL THEATRES” IN FRANCE AND THE UNITED KINGDOM EUGÉNIE FLEUR PASTOR ROYAL HOLLOWAY, UNIVERSITY OF LONDON DEPARTMENT OF DRAMA AND THEATRE A Thesis submitted as a partial fulfilment of the requirements of the degree of Ph.D. August 2014 1 DECLARATION OF AUTHORSHIP I, Eugénie Fleur Pastor, hereby declare that this thesis and the work presented in it is entirely my own. Where I have consulted the work of others, this is always clearly stated. Signed: ______________________ Date: 7 August 2014 2 ABSTRACT This thesis is an exploration of movement in contemporary “physical theatres”. I develop a renewed understanding of “physical theatres” as embodied framework to experience both spectatorship and theatre-making. I analyse how, in this type of performance, movement blurs distinctions between the intimate and the collective, the inside and the outside, thus challenging definitions of intimacy and tactility. The thesis consists of a comparative study of examples of “physical theatres”, in the 21st century, in France and in the UK. The comparison highlights that “physical theatres” practitioners are under-represented in France, a reason I attribute in part to a terminological absence in the French language. The four case studies range from itinerant company Escale and their athletic embodiment of a political ideal to Jean Lambert-wild’s theatre of “micro-movement”, from Told by an Idiot’s position in a traditional theatre context in the UK to my own work within Little Bulb Theatre, where physicality is virtuosic in its non- virtuosity. For each case study, I use a methodology that echoes this exploration of movement and reflects my position within each fieldwork. -
Hellboy Premieres in Uk Cinemas 11 April After Part
HELLBOY PREMIERES IN UK CINEMAS 11 APRIL AFTER PART- FILMING IN BRISTOL >> Watch the trailer, featuring Bristol’s Waring House << BRISTOL, 9th April 2019: The highly anticipated third Hellboy movie is set to premiere in UK cinemas this week (11th April), after part-filming in Bristol in 2017. Lionsgate’s ‘R-rated reboot’ of the international film franchise is directed by Neil Marshall (The Descent, Game of Thrones) and stars David Harbour (Stranger Things), Milla Jovovich (Resident Evil series), Ian McShane (John Wick), Daniel Dae Kim (Hawaii Five-0) and Sasha Lane (American Honey). Principal photography mainly took place in Bulgaria, but it was Bristol and the surrounding area that provided the backdrop for the UK leg of the shoot. Bristol’s Bottle Yard Studios provided the UK production base, supplying offices, construction areas and prop stores. Night shoots for major scenes starring lead character Hellboy (David Harbour) took place in September 2017 at Waring House in Bristol’s Redcliffe area, which can be seen in the opening moments of the movie’s trailer. The demanding shoot featuring SWAT teams, firearms and armoured vehicles, was arranged with help from Bristol Film Office who assisted with location scouting, recces, arranging unit bases and parking. They also helped producers liaise with residents, advising on donations for the local community and ensuring translation needs were met so that communications were fully accessible. -
The Jewish Defense League
The Jewish Defense League This document is an archived copy of an older ADL report and may not reflect the most current facts or developments related to its subject matter. About the Jewish Defense League The Jewish Defense League, also known as JDL, was established in 1968 for the declared purpose of protecting Jews by whatever means necessary in the face of what was seen by the group’s principals as their dire peril. The founder, national chairman and leader of the JDL was a then-38-year-old ordained rabbi from Brooklyn, New York, Meir Kahane, who, in 1990, was assassinated in New York by an Arab extremist. In Rabbi Kahane’s gross distortion of the position of Jews in America, American Jews were living in a fiercely hostile society, facing much the same dangers as the Jews in Nazi Germany or those in Israel surrounded by 100-million Arab enemies. Rabbi Kahane believed that the major Jewish organizations in the United States had failed to protect America’s Jews from anti-Semitism, which he saw as “exploding” all over the country. "If I have succeeded in instilling fear in you," Rabbi Kahane said in the closing statement of his standard speech, "I consider this evening a success." In fact, Kahane consistently preached a radical form of Jewish nationalism which reflected racism, violence and political extremism. In Their Own Words Irv Rubin -- Chairman of the Jewish Defense League 1 / 36 After the attack on the Jewish community center in Los Angeles: "Those kids at that community center were sitting ducks. -
