The Great Southern Landfill Site, outside York, Western Australia, was previously referred to as Allawuna Farm Landfill (AFL), and a Works Approval Application (WAA) was prepared by SUEZ and granted by the Department of Environment Regulation (DER) (now the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation, DWER) on 17 March 2016; it was subsequently withdrawn by SUEZ. The WAA by SUEZ is publicly available on the DWER website. 2.0 PUBLICALLY AVAILABLE INFORMATION 2.1 WAA data The supporting works approval application provided the following information related to flora and fauna: Allawuna Landfill Vegetation and Fauna Assessment, ENV Australia Pty Ltd (October, 2012) (provided in Attachment A) 2.2 Summary of Information 2.2.1 Flora Golder (2015) summarised: A comprehensive Level 2 flora investigation of the proposed landfill area was undertaken by ENV Australia (2012) (Appendix K). The proposed landfill footprint differs to that considered in the flora assessment, although not significantly. The results and conclusions contained in the 2012 Vegetation and Fauna Assessment Report remain valid for the proposed landfill. -

These values are presented in Table 13. Approximately 18 000 trees may support black-cockatoo nests within the entire survey area. Table 13. The two specimens of the new species are from stony terrain near Leonora about 250 km from Bungalbin sandplain where the nearest Aprasia (A. repens) has been collected. The head scalation of the new species is most like Aprasia rostrata, the colouration most like Aprasia smithi. Introduction The 35 species and eight genera of legless lizard (Pygopodidae) currently recognised are confined to Australia and New Guinea. Of these, 34 species and all eight genera occur in Australia (Cogger 1992) and in New Guinea there is one genus and two species (Kluge 1974). In Western Australia there are 23 species and six genera of pygopods (Storr et al. 1990). The monotypic genera Aclys and Pletholax and eight of the 10 known worm-like fossorial species of Aprasia are only found in Western Australia and then, almost exclusively, along the coast. In Western Australia, members of the genus Aprasia are found on Hermite Island in the north and on the mainland from North West Cape south and east to Esperance and the southeast coast east of the vicinity of Toolina Rockhole (Fig 1). -

BIOGEOGRAPHY AND PHYLOGENY OF THE SQUAMATA This review summarises the current hypotheses of the origin, antiquity and history of the order Squamata, the dominant living reptile group which comprises the lizards, snakes and worm-lizards. The primary concern here is with the broad relationships and origins of the major taxa rather than with local distributional or phylogenetic patterns within Australia. In our review of the phylogenetic hypotheses, where possible we refer principally to data sets that have been analysed by cladistic methods. Analyses based on anatomical morphological data sets are integrated with the results of karyotypic and biochemical data sets. A persistent theme of this chapter is that for most families there are few cladistically analysed morphological data, and karyotypic or biochemical data sets are limited or unavailable. Biogeographic study, especially historical biogeography, cannot proceed unless both phylogenetic data are available for the taxa and geological data are available for the physical environment. Again, the reader will find that geological data are very uncertain regarding the degree and timing of the isolation of the Australian continent from Asia and Antarctica. In most cases, therefore, conclusions should be regarded very cautiously. The number of squamate families in Australia is low. Five of approximately fifteen lizard families and five or six of eleven snake families occur in the region; amphisbaenians are absent. Opinions vary concerning the actual number of families recognised in the Australian fauna, depending on whether the Pygopodidae are regarded as distinct from the Gekkonidae, and whether sea snakes, Hydrophiidae and Laticaudidae, are recognised as separate from the Elapidae. -

CHAPMAN Reptiles and frogs were collected opportunistically on Marchagee Nature Reserve (for location and details see Dell, Introduction this report). Collections were made during the dates mentioned by Dell (ibid.). In addition T.M.S. Hanlon and S. Wilson made additional collections on 21 August 1977. Specimens are in the Western Australian Museum and are registered R54479-85, R57775-57864 (May), R51137-54 (July), R57349-54 (August), and R57744-72 (September). In the annotated list we present data on numbers collected, habitat, breeding con dition and diet. Snout-vent length (SVL) is given in millimetres and vegetation location numbers and soils are from Muir (this report). ANNOTATED LIST LEPTODACTYLIDAE Heleioporus albopunctatus Three collected in May, 1 in September. Margins of saltlakes; loco 2.1, 7.1, and 7.3 in May, loco 7.8 in September. Males with pigmented spine in May and September. Collected at night. Heleioporus eyrei Seven collected in May, 1 in October. Margins of saltlakes; loco 2.1 and 7.3 in May, loco 7.8 in September. Collected at night. Limnodynastes dorsalis Five collected in May, 1 in July, 2 in September. Margins of saltlakes and in shrubland; loco 2.1 and 7.3 in May, loco 7.2 in July, loco 2.2 and 3.14 in September. July specimen was under hollow log among samphires, others were collected at night. Neobatrachus centralis Ten collected in May from margins of saltlakes. Neobatrachus pelobatoides Nine collected in May and 2 in July from margins of saltlakes. -

E-mail: [email protected] Abstract Ctenotus is the largest and most diverse genus of skinks in Australia with at least 97 described species. We generated large mitochondrial and nuclear DNA data sets for 70 individuals representing all available species in the C. labillardieri species- group to produce the first comprehensive phylogeny for this clade. The widespread C. labillardieri was sampled extensively to provide the first detailed phylogeographic data set for a reptile in the southwestern Australian biodiversity hotspot. We supplemented our molecular data with a comprehensive morphological dataset for the entire group, and together these data are used to revise the group and describe a new species. The morphologically highly variable species C. labillardieri comprises seven well-supported genetic clades that each occupy distinct geographic regions. The phylogeographic patterns observed in this taxon are consistent with studies of frogs, plants and invertebrates, adding strength to emerging biogeographic hypotheses in this iconic region. The species C. catenifer, C. youngsoni, and C. gemmula are well supported, and despite limited sampling both C. catenifer and C. gemmula show substantial genetic structure. -
