With over 60 events – films, music, poetry, art, theatre, history, soccer and radio – the LaborFest is indeed bigger and better than ever and we’re sure that you’ll find something to inspire. As always, none of this would be possible without the generous financial support of our sponsors, who continue to share our vision and ensure the survival and expansion of this annual celebration. American Income Life heads up the list of our Premiere Sponsors, as it has since our very first year, and we’re so pleased and honored to feature AIL CEO Roger Smith’s wonderful essay, Art as Storytelling on page X. Roger eloquently sums up what the LaborFest is all about: “Art provides the perfect media for touching hearts, transporting history, and rekindling workers’ age-old hope for a better life.” Thanks also to our other Premiere Sponsors, the Amalgamated Transit Union, National Nurses United, SAG-AFTRA and SEIU. Special thanks to our Festival Hosts, and to all our sponsors, who you’ll find listed on pages 17 and 19. Back in 2000, when Tony Mazzocchi walked into the Metro Washington Council’s office with his plan to start a DC Labor FilmFest, it took a very special labor leader to not only recognize a good idea but to have the ability to turn that gleam in Tony’s eye into reality. Jos Williams embraced the opportunity to provide everyone – whether they belong to a union or not – with a different way to see the issues affecting working men and women. “Come for the movie, stay for the movement,” he urged, and we are privileged and honored to carry Jos’ – and Tony’s -- work on. We look forward to seeing you at this year’s LaborFest as the struggle for economic justice continues. Jackie Jeter Mark Dudzic
