Verstappen maakt al het hele jaar indruk in gewonnen. De Schot rekent af met Lamy is een ster in wording. Als de Duitse Formule 3 en bekroont zijn goede seizoen met deze overwinning en zijn latere Formule 1-collega Rubens hij in 1992 het Duitse Formule 3- de titel in dit hoogaangeschreven kampioenschap. Een jaar later tekent hij bij Barrichello. Als derde eindigt de kampioenschap en de Masters wint, Benetton als testcoureur. Na een ongeluk van JJ Letho mag hij in de Grand Prix FOrmULA 3 Nederlander Marcel Albers, die raakt zijn carrière in een stroom- van Brazilië al instappen. Hoogtepunten in 1994 zijn de podia in Hongarije en niet lang daarna bij een noodlottig versnelling. Nog geen jaar later zit België, in het laatste geval na de diskwalificatie van teamgenoot Schumacher.
