    Ms Coll\Wheeler, R. Wheeler, Roger, collector. Theatrical memorabilia, 1770-1940. 15 linear ft. (ca. 12,800 items in 32 boxes). Biography: Proprietor of Rare Old Programs, Newtonville, Mass. Summary: Theatrical memorabilia such as programs, playbills, photographs, engravings, and prints. Although there are some playbills as early as 1770, most of the material is from the 19th and 20th centuries. In addition to plays there is some material relating to concerts, operettas, musical comedies, musical revues, and movies. The majority of the collection centers around Shakespeare. Included with an unbound copy of each play (The Edinburgh Shakespeare Folio Edition) there are portraits, engravings, and photographs of actors in their roles; playbills; programs; cast lists; other types of illustrative material; reviews of various productions; and other printed material. Such well known names as George Arliss, Sarah Bernhardt, the Booths, John Drew, the Barrymores, and William Gillette are included in this collection. Organization: Arranged. Finding aids: Contents list, 19p. Restrictions on use: Collection is shelved offsite and requires 48 hours for access. Available for faculty, students, and researchers engaged in scholarly or publication projects.     Landmarks Preservation Commission January 5, 1988; Designation List 199 LP-1387 WINTER GARDEN THEATER, first floor interior consisting of the inner lobby, the auditorium, the stage; the balcony floor interior consisting of the balcony, the upper part of the auditorium and ceiling; and the fixtures and interior components of these spaces, including but not limited to, wall and ceiling surfaces, doors, stair railings and attached decorative elements; 1634-1646 Broadway, Manhattan; initial structure built c. 1885 and rebuilt 1896; remodeled and partially rebuilt for theater use 1910-11, architect W. Albert Swasey; remodeled 1922-23, architect Herbert J. Krapp. Landmark Site: Borough of Manhattan Tax Map Block 1022, Lot 26. On June 14 and 15, 1982, the Landmarks Preservation Commission held a public hearing on the proposed designation as an Interior Landmark of the Winter Garden Theater, first floor interior consisting of the outer lobby, the inner lobby, the auditorium, the stage, the staircases leading from the first floor to the ba 1 cony floor and all connecting entrance areas; the ba 1 cony floor interior consisting of the balcony, the upper part of the auditorium and ceiling, the upper part of the stage house; and the fixtures and interior components of these spaces, including but not limited to, wall, ceiling, and floor surfaces, doors, stair railings and attached decorative elements; and the proposed designation of the related Landmark Site (I tern No. 83). The hearing was continued to October 19, 198 2. Both hearings had been duly advertised in accordance with the provisions of law. Eighty-one witne sses spoke or had statements read into the record in favor of designation.

    The Inventory of the Jose Ferrer Collection #1596 Howard Gotlieb Archival Research Center Jose Ferrer (1912-1992) Inventory 2001 Most of the materials in the collection are related to the stage plays, musicals, and televisions productions with which Jose Ferrer was associated :from 1948-1988 as producer, director, author, and/or actor. Scripts, contracts, agreements, records of negotiations, and financial matters, together with related correspondence form the bulk of the content for theatre and film productions, scripts alone for those in television. The files for_ two 1958 musicals, "Oh Captain" and "Edwin Booth" are extensive. Jose Ferrer's business affairs were handled by his lawyer Edwin W. Reiskind. Almost all related correspondence involving Jose Ferrer is channeled through Reiskind. Two further notable items in the collections are: 1) the text of Jose Ferrer's testimony or the Hearings on Un-American Activities in May, 1951, and 2) a group of personal autograph letters to Ruth Gordon and Garson Kanin written :from 1952-1987.
