Burns Night January 25th is the birthday of Robert Burns and the Harrogate Touchline Internationals, always looking for an excuse for a celebration, would traditionally join together for a night out and a wee dram. Roy Guy recalls one Burns Night in particular. ‘Thinking of this took me back to a TI Burns Night Supper held at Claro Road in the small room later used as an office. My outstanding recollections are that the room was overcrowded, and I spent the evening being jammed against the wall by a very large Leo Niemic. When it was time to toast the haggis someone produced what was said to be a Burns first edition poetry book and the owner, together with our greatly lamented Glyn Smith, whilst attempting to find the correct passage, recklessly handled and thumbed through it as though it was a cheap magazine.     Welcome We are delighted to welcome CALDY RUFC to Kingston Park, Newcastle- Upon-Tyne. This is our fourth relocated home match due to the floods at Tynedale Park. We are again grateful to the management and staff at Newcastle Falcons for providing the use of their facilities in order to play our home matches. Caldy RUFC – Club History (Courtesy of Caldy web site) On February 27th 1924 when some Old Boys of Calday School, with the encouragement of the then Headmaster, R. T. B. Glasspool, they decided that they must carry on playing rugby together so the 'Old Caldeians' R.F.C. came into being at a meeting held at the Blenheim Café in West Kirby. They started playing in a farm field at Caldy cross roads and changing in the farm buildings at Croxton Farm, bathing facilities were somewhat primitive they used a tin bath which was filled from a tap in the farm Yard. In 1925 Sir Alfred Paton, an Old Boy of the school, bequeathed to The National Trust 20 acres land bordering Thurstaston Common with a proviso to the bequest stating that this area was to be available to the Rugby Club to use as a playing area in perpetuity. So Paton Field came into existence. In 1928 the club finally took possession of Paton Field and built a Clubhouse with three changing rooms. The club continued to play Rugby during the war years with the support of the school and members who came back home on leave. During the conflict the club lost a number of members killed.

    RUGBY FOOTBALL UNION NCA ADMINISTRATIVE INSTRUCTIONS 1 GENERAL 1.1 INTRODUCTION The National Clubs Association (“NCA”) has delegated authority from the Rugby Football Union (“RFU”) to act as the organising committee for the National Leagues which comprise National 1, National 2 North and National 2 South and the NCA Secretary is the designated League Secretary for all three Leagues. All rugby must be played under the Laws of the Game (“the Laws”) issued by World Rugby. The RFU governs the game in England and issues wide-ranging regulations to achieve this (“RFU Regulations”). NCA issues further instructions to enable it to administer the National Leagues efficiently and equitably (“NCA Administrative Instructions”). Where there are any anomalies or contradictions between the Laws and the RFU Regulations and/or the NCA Administrative instructions, the Laws are the definitive statement. Likewise, the RFU Regulations take precedence over the NCA administrative instructions. The RFU regulations can be viewed at https://www.englandrugby.com/governance/rules-and-regulations/regulations and World Rugby regulations at http://www.worldrugby.org/regulations 1.2 OBJECTIVE The objective of the NCA administrative instructions is to provide a guide to its member Clubs by pulling together relevant extracts from the RFU Regulations along with particular instructions and rules regarding the National Leagues. By accepting a place in any of the National Leagues, Clubs agree implicitly to be bound by these instructions. I watched their final game at RUGBY Llandudno and once again, their never-say-die attitude saw them through and congratulations on a magnifiicent season.
