North & Mid Wales Pwllheli, what a finish! Needing five bonus point wins all away from home to secure the title. Your contributions would be most welcome along with your feedback. Burns Night January 25th is the birthday of Robert Burns and the Harrogate Touchline Internationals, always looking for an excuse for a celebration, would traditionally join together for a night out and a wee dram. Roy Guy recalls one Burns Night in particular. ‘Thinking of this took me back to a TI Burns Night Supper held at Claro Road in the small room later used as an office. My outstanding recollections are that the room was overcrowded, and I spent the evening being jammed against the wall by a very large Leo Niemic. When it was time to toast the haggis someone produced what was said to be a Burns first edition poetry book and the owner, together with our greatly lamented Glyn Smith, whilst attempting to find the correct passage, recklessly handled and thumbed through it as though it was a cheap magazine. Alcohol may have played a part in their behaviour.’ The photograph shows some of the TIs in the Claro Road office ready to celebrate. Foot and ball impact characteristics in AF kicking Comparisons of foot to ball interaction in Australian Football in elite males By James Peacock ID: 3855335 Submitted for the degree of Bachelor of Applied Science (Honours) in Human Movement Supervisors: Dr. Kevin Ball Dr. Simon Taylor Dr. Hiroyuki Nunome College of Sport and Exercise Science Victoria University 9th October, 2013 I Foot and ball impact characteristics in AF kicking Abstract Drop punt kicking is considered the most important skill in Australian Football (AF) and impact is the most crucial element in performance. Previous research on impact in AF kicking has used pre and post ball contact data to calculate average foot-ball characteristics but there has been no evaluation of the phase during impact. Important information has been found in soccer performing this analysis and importantly some parameters such as force have been found to be two times average force. The aims of the study were to evaluate foot and ball velocity during impact and compare impact differences between distance and accuracy kicks. Eleven elite AF players were fitted with reflective markers on the kick leg and foot and kicked drop punt kicks with their preferred foot attempting to hit a 20m target (accuracy) and performing maximal distance kicks. Two-dimensional 4000Hz video recorded impact and from this footage, shank, foot and ball markers were tracked using ProAnalyst software. Distance kicks displayed significantly larger foot and ball velocity, contact distance, average and peak force, work and impulse while accuracy kicks exhibited larger contact time and greater plantarflexion at the ankle throughout impact.

These Laws have been produced so that there are some guidelines and principles in place for Tag Rugby. Unions having jurisdiction over their developmental processes, matches, competitions and festivals may need to vary these Laws as deemed appropriate. LAW 1: THE GROUND 1.1 Surface of the playing enclosure (a) The surface must be deemed safe to play on. (b) The surface may be grass, sand, clay, snow or artificial grass. Match organisers may decide to use other surfaces provided they are suitable for purpose. 1.2 Dimensions of the field of play Match organisers may decide the dimensions of the playing area according to competition, developmental and age grade requirements, but usually matches are played across one half of a Rugby pitch with the goal line and half way lines acting as touch lines.

  • RD PRO12 Preview Round 16
RaboDirect PRO12 PREVIEW 2013/14 Round 16: 28th February & 1st March 2014 ROUND 16 PREVIEWS Round 16 of the RaboDirect PRO12 is the last of a run of four straight rounds that could help define a team’s season before international rugby once more takes centre stage. The focus will now be on achieving a top four placing, thereby qualifying for the end of season Play-Offs and the chance to be crowned champions. At present 6 teams appear to be contesting the Play-Off places and two of those are in action against each other in the last game of the round on Saturday night, when Glasgow Warriors travel to Dublin to face Leinster. Warriors have already beaten their hosts once this season, a victory could start them off on another sequence of away wins after Dragons ended their record run last time out. Also on Saturday evening table topping Munster travel to 6th placed Scarlets, and the home team must claim the points if they are to have any chance of making a successful late bid for the Play-Off Zone. The third and fourth placed teams are both in action on Friday night, Ulster welcoming Newport Gwent Dragons to Ravenhill whilst Ospreys travel to Edinburgh to play at Boroughmuir’s Meggetland ground. Dragons may have defeated Ulster in Wales, but will find it a much tougher prospect in Belfast as the home side have lost there just once in 12 months. Ospreys are another team not afraid to travel and will hope their ratio of more wins on the road that at home will continue for this trip.
