It exists as two isoenzymes, sarcomeric MtCK and ubiquitous MtCK, encoded by separate . Mitochondrial creatine kinase occurs in two different oligomeric forms: dimers and octamers, in contrast to the exclusively dimeric cytosolic creatine kinase isoenzymes.
