1463f Magazine.qxp 10/23/08 1:56 PM Page 4 A WORD FROM THE P RESIDENT ell – the summer has come and gone, and with a flurry. CIP members have been active, Wand the CIP family has grown. In July, CIP experienced the most robust election for President-Elect that we have had in over a decade. Four candidates ran for the position with Marni Cappe becoming our new VP and President-Elect. Congratulations and welcome to Marni as the newest member of CIP Council, and many thanks to Linda McFadyen, Ron Glenn and Dennis Jacobs. I think it is a testament to the strength of this organization that we have such qualified and respected people taking the time to run for elected office. We knew that only one candidate would win, but I truly believe that CIP members are richer for the process. I have had the pleasure of getting to know Marni over the past number of years and admire the tremendous commitment she has shown to CIP.From her work with the Ontario Professional Planning Institute and through the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, the national association has been an important factor in Marni’s conscience. It is fortunate that Marni has joined Council at this time as CIP becomes more active in policy development. Marni’s addition to the current Council should make for a very productive year through to the CIP/OPPI Conference in September 2009. On the topic of conferences, I would like to congratulate Ian Wight and Chris Leach and their team for hosting the 2008 CIP/MPPI Conference. We had 700 delegates attend the conference and from all accounts have had nothing but accolades. -

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MARCH 16, 2013 Subject to change/additional artists may be announced Winnipeg Folk Festival Announces 2013 Line-Up Five Days of Folk Kicks Off with City and Colour, The Avett Brothers and Oh My Darling WINNIPEG, Manitoba, Canada – The 40th edition of the Winnipeg Folk Festival takes place Wednesday, July 10 to Sunday, July 14 and the line-up, once again, brings together a diversity of world-class music for what will be a celebratory and memorable event filled with fun, friends and musical discovery. The five-day Festival kicks off with one of Canada’s most renowned, multi-award winning acts City and Colour, Grammy-nominated North Carolina band The Avett Brothers and Winnipeg’s own bluegrass/folk globetrotters Oh My Darling. The Avett Brothers and City and Colour have been appearing together throughout Canada and the US – and it’s been a recipe for success as they have gone on to sell out notable venues including the Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto and the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado. The Festival continues on Thursday, July 11, with a rare first time performance by The Decemberists frontman and songwriter, Colin Meloy. Also on the bill is multi-Juno nominated, Ontario singer- songwriter and Festival alumnus Serena Ryder, and the Atlanta-based folk rock duo the Indigo Girls are returning to the Festival after a six-year hiatus. Friday sees the return of Australian fan-favourite The Cat Empire. Montreal-based and “sci-fi folk” troubadour Patrick Watson will bring songs from his latest album Adventures In Your Own Backyard to Main Stage. -
