Schloss Neuhardenberg First, the town and castle are closely connected with the castle's namesake, Karl August Fiirst von Hardenberg, who, together with Karl Reichsfreiherr vom und zum Stein, set in motion the Prussian state reforms at the beginning of the 19th century. Second, the name is closely associated with the resistance against Hitler. Carl-Hans Graf von Hardenberg was actively involved in the preparations for the assassination attempt against Hitler on July 20, 1944. He was dispossessed and only just survived imprisonment in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp. The castle, built in the classical style, and the adjacent village church were designed by Karl Friednch Schinkel. The park was landscaped by Peter Joseph Lenne and Hermann Fiirst von Piickler-Muskau. These three names represent pinnacles of European architecture and landscape design of the 18th and 19th centuries. 2. Directions Neuhardenberg is located about 1.5 hours by car from Berlin. A map of the directions is attached. Those arriving by air or train can arrange to be picked up. For this, I would, however, need details of the place and time of arrival. 3.
