Spotlight – Alum Demirhan has been active in the American Library Association (ALA) and other international library organizations and is currently serving on the ALA Training, Orientation & Leadership Development (TOLD) Committee, and several other committees. Demirhan has been publishing and presenting in professional organizations and universities locally and internationally. Since 2014, he has served on the Editorial Advisory Board for Advances in Library Administration and Organization.     Terpsichorean Architecture: Editor’s Introduction Tony Mitchell, University of Technology Sydney In Peter Hoeg’s celebrated novel Miss Smilla’s Feeling for Snow (1992), Greenland- born Smilla says of her extraordinary ability to decipher patterns and read tracks in snow: ‘Reading snow is like listening to music. To describe what you’ve read is to try and describe music in writing’ (2005:37). Later in the book, Andreas Fine Licht, a blind Professsor of Eskimo Languages and Cultures at the Danish Institute of Eskimology, deciphers a tape recording of a native Greenlander speaking in dialect about hunting. He is also able to hear and identify in the background on the tape the jazz music of trumpeter Roy Louber, formerly of the John Coltrane quartet, in a rare live concert performance in Thule in the late 1960s (2005:134). The experience of listening to, or hearing and identifying music may, in both cases, be a complex one, but writing about it comprehensively and memorably can be even more complex and fraught with difficulties. This selection of papers comes from a Symposium held at the University of Technology Sydeny (UTS) in September 2009. The title derives from a notorious quote—now a cliché—from Elvis Costello in an interview in the British Musician magazine in 1983: ‘Writing about music is like dancing about architecture—it’s a really stupid thing to want to do’ (White 1983). French Submitted to the Graduate Faculty as partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Doctor of Philosophy Degree in History The University of Toledo December 2014 Electricity has been defined by American society as a modern and clean form of energy since it came into practical use at the end of the nineteenth century, yet no comprehensive study exists which examines the roots of these definitions. This dissertation considers the social meanings of electricity as an energy technology that became adopted between the mid- nineteenth and early decades of the twentieth centuries. Arguing that both technical and cultural factors played a role, this study shows how electricity became an abstracted form of energy in the minds of Americans. As technological advancements allowed for an increasing physical distance between power generation and power consumption, the commodity of electricity became consciously detached from the steam and coal that produced it.

[1] The formation of large impact basins (diameter D ≥ 300 km) was an important process in the early geological evolution of Mercury and influenced the planet’s topography, stratigraphy, and crustal structure. We catalog and characterize this basin population on Mercury from global observations by the MESSENGER spacecraft, and we use the new data to evaluate basins suggested on the basis of the Mariner 10 flybys. Forty-six certain or probable impact basins are recognized; a few additional basins that may have been degraded to the point of ambiguity are plausible on the basis of new data but are classified as uncertain. The spatial density of large basins (D ≥ 500 km) on Mercury is lower than that on the Moon. Morphological characteristics of basins on Mercury suggest that on average they are more degraded than lunar basins. These observations are consistent with more efficient modification, degradation, and obliteration of the largest basins on Mercury than on the Moon. This distinction may be a result of differences in the basin formation process (producing fewer rings), relaxation of topography after basin formation (subduing relief), or rates of volcanism (burying basin rings and interiors) during the period of heavy bombardment on Mercury from those on the Moon.

The plays are customarily passed over as an appendage to his poetry, and the prose works are almost entirely neglected, except as philosophical documents. Though the poems are constantly being examined and explicat¬ ed, the prose style is mentioned only incidentally: "one may observe in passing that the section on history in A Vision includes the finest 1 rhythmic prose written in English since that of Sir Thomas Browne." The paradox is that though Yeats* s dramatic movement, in the form of the Abbey Theatre, exerted great influence on English and American drama, his plays themselves remain outside the realm of influence and have not passed into the tradition of English drama.
