Watch it all on Red Bull TV. Cyril Despres: Five-time winner of the Dakar Rally! Name: Cyril Despres Date of Birth: January 24 1974 Nationality: French Machine: KTM 450 Rally Debut: 2000 Dakar (Senegal) to Cairo (Egypt). Finished 16th Best Dakar: Four-time champion (2005, 2007, 2010, 2012) Unlike many of the Dakar champions that have come before him, Cyril didn’t grow up in a family with an established love of motorsport. Cyril’s inspiration came instead from watching a friend rid- ing in motocross competitions. Once Cyril caught the biking bug, he soon set his sights on the ultimate chal- lenge, the Dakar Rally. Through sheer determination, Cyril got himself to the Cyril Despres (FRA) of Team Peugeot TOTAL start line of the first Dakar of the new mil- seen after stage 11 of Rally Dakar 2017 from lennium. Cyril enhanced his reputation as a star of the future in the next few editions of the Dakar as he started to win stages and got himself onto the podium. In 2005, now riding with KTM, Cyril won his first Dakar Rally. The fact Cyril only won two stages on the route between Barcelona and Dakar demonstrates the Frenchman’s intuitive knowledge of the tactical side of the race. In 2007 Cyril won the last Dakar Rally to be staged in Africa and he also tasted success in South America with his 2010 title. Cyril’s natural charisma sees race fans get behind him wherever he goes in the world. 2012 got off to a perfect start for Cyril as he claimed his fourth Dakar Rally crown. However, the majority of remain- ing months of the year were spent recov- ering from a series of injuries until he got back on his bike in October to win his fourth Rallye du Maroc. The victory proved to all his competitors’ one thing, Cyril is back and he means business. Red Bull TV Host Mike Chen .

  • The PEUGEOT 2008 DKR Clocks up Testing Kilometres in France
The PEUGEOT 2008 DKR clocks up testing kilometres in France As the countdown to the 2015 Dakar Rally begins to accelerate, the Peugeot- Total squad is continuing to develop the fearsome PEUGEOT 2008 DKR at a frenetic pace with its three star drivers, including Cyril Despres, who is getting to grips with competing on four wheels for the first time. From 7am, Team Peugeot-Total is in action. Like a commando unit on a mission, the mechanics invade the test centre at Château Lastours, where the PEUGEOT 2008 DKR is about to begin a new phase of its development – generating impatience and anticipation in equal measure. Every single minute counts. For the first time, the three crews that constitute Peugeot’s dream team will all take turns behind the wheel. Following shakedown tests at Freneuse, Montlhéry and Creusot elsewhere in France, the beast now has the opportunity to demonstrate its mettle across rocky terrain that offers a foretaste of the kind of adventure that awaits it in South America. Now that Carlos Sainz has drawn upon his experience to identify the inevitable initial teething troubles, his two new team-mates have also come along to help out. On the programme is validation of the modifications made to the chassis and cooling system. Stéphane Peterhansel settles into the high-perched cockpit of his new mount. The French multiple Dakar winner wastes little time in heading towards this track, which represents a real challenge – even for a vehicle that aspires to the life of a trailblazer. As the kilometres pass by, Stéphane confesses to experiencing a genuine culture shock: “Switching over to two-wheel-drive changes everything!” he cheerfully reflects.

  • Winning the Dakar Like a Boss
Buenos Aires, the 17th of January, 2015 Winning the Dakar like a boss 216. The number of competitors who managed to finish the 2015 Dakar (79 motorcycles, 18 quads, 68 cars and 51 trucks) out of the 420 which started the rally. Two of them, Ivan Jakeš and Robby Gordon, won the final stage in the motorcycle and car categories, respectively. However, the spotlight was on Marc Coma, who drew upon his experience to take his fifth Dakar, and Nasser Al-Attiyah, who claimed his second one after dominating the entire two-week rally. Marc Coma is now level with Cyril Despres, a fact which will please the Frenchman's eternal rival at the Dakar to no end and —just like his former teammate— puts him just one triumph away from the record held by legend Stéphane Peterhansel. Their equal number of wins takes on a special dimension considering the dominance of the two men throughout the last ten editions of the Dakar, as well as the good-natured competition which fuels their ambition. For the first time in ten years, Despres was not there to take the fight to Coma, having switched to the car category this year, but the Spaniard still had to fight tooth and nail for his resounding victory in Buenos Aires... As in 2014, Joan Barreda was clearly the toughest rival the KTM rider came up against in Argentina, Chile and Bolivia. The HRC rider won stage 2 with the added bonus of the overall lead, opening a crucial 12-minute gap thanks to the latter's tyre problems.

  • Bikes Race: KTM Hunting
Paris, 19 December 2018 Bikes race: KTM hunting Key points: ➢ Among the 138 riders expected at the start in Lima, the last three winners of the Dakar, Toby Price, Sam Sunderland and Matthias Walkner, will be the leaders at KTM, which has been threatened but never beaten since January 2000. ➢ But this long-term domination doesn’t dissuade the competition from eyeing the title, most especially at Honda with Kevin Benavides and Joan Barreda or at Yamaha with Adrien van Beveren and Xavier de Soultrait. ➢ Far from the battle in the general classification, the bivouac also welcomes amateur riders motivated by the experience of the desert and the sharing of the adventure with fellow competitors. 35 bikers and quad riders are entered without assistance in the “Original by Motul” category. The times are changing! Just a few years ago, the prognostications of the bike race were limited to a choice between Cyril Despres and Marc Coma, who dominated the category, with five victories each between 2005 and 2015. But since then, a new era has begun, led by a generation of ambitious young riders more than by the former also ran in the Coma-Despres duels. In 2015, Toby Price made a remarkable debut in finishing 3rd, as did Mathias Walkner, who dropped out early from the rally, while the young and spirited Sam Sunderland had more than his share of retirements. The three hopefuls went on to confirm their potential in winning the three following editions, which extended KTM’s winning streak to 17 straight titles. However, the Austrian firm’s dominance has indeed been threatened over the past few years.
