ORGANISATION Edition #EDITION 2020 OCTOBER DATES 09 > 14 http:// rallyemaroc World Wide Web .com Edito This year, the Rallye du Maroc is being prepared under adverse circumstances. Indeed, this is an extremely challenging year for all of us and we are well aware of this. We are adapting the organization of the event as best as possible so that this World Rally Championship and life size rehearsal before Dakar is a success. The current health circumstances have forced us to make choices in order to protect the Moroccan people and the competitors by limiting contact and taking special measures. This year, the Rallye will be organized around an XXL bivouac near M’Hamid, south of Zagora. If the nomadic character is assessed under the current circumstances, the Rallye du Maroc remains faithful to its DNA: Be the most accessible international Rally Raid with categories designed for new adventurers, allowing them to progress at their own pace and means, alongside the best pilot and co-pilots in the world. Prepare effectively for the Dakar, whether it is a short-term project or a long-term goal. The Rallye du Maroc benefits from the “Road to Dakar” Label, thus meeting the demanding criteria in terms of safety and sports organization that this implies. Allow factory teams to prepare effectively for the Dakar. So many guarantees of quality for all participants, whatever their level, without sacrificing conviviality and shared experiences. We tend to repeat ourselves by quoting this sentence from Thierry Sabine, but it’s true: “The Rally is a race for amateurs where professionals have their place”. -

A tough day for PETRONAS Team De Rooy IVECO in Stage 8 of Dakar Rally 2020 Flat tyres, mechanical issues and big, soft dunes made for a hard day that ended with a loss of precious time for the team’s drivers Wadi Al-Dawasir, January 13th, 2020 The 8th stage of the Dakar Rally presented a big challenge for the crews and the PETRONAS Team De Rooy IVECO suffered some setbacks that produced significant loss of time for the drivers. Janus van Kasteren started the stage in good form, but two flat tyres, one at the beginning and the other one at the end, cost him time. The biggest obstacle was a very soft dune where he got stuck, but with Van de Laar’s help he was able to resume racing. Van Kasteren positioned his #505 truck in 16th place, 51m02s behind leader Karginov. It is a setback for his objective of getting into the Top 5 of the overall classification, as he remains in 7th position, almost an hour away from fifth-placed Sotnikov. Michiel Becx had a good run in Stage 8, which was the second loop of the race with beginning and end in Wadi Al-Dawasir. The Dutchman from PETRONAS Team De Rooy IVECO finished 18th, getting his fourth Top 20 result in a row, and he climbs one place to 16th in the general standings. Albert Llovera also had a hard time on the tough roads of Saudi Arabia, with level 1 and 2 dunes of very soft sand that can be very treacherous for the drivers. -
The PEUGEOT 2008 DKR Clocks up Testing Kilometres in France
The PEUGEOT 2008 DKR clocks up testing kilometres in France As the countdown to the 2015 Dakar Rally begins to accelerate, the Peugeot- Total squad is continuing to develop the fearsome PEUGEOT 2008 DKR at a frenetic pace with its three star drivers, including Cyril Despres, who is getting to grips with competing on four wheels for the first time. From 7am, Team Peugeot-Total is in action. Like a commando unit on a mission, the mechanics invade the test centre at Château Lastours, where the PEUGEOT 2008 DKR is about to begin a new phase of its development – generating impatience and anticipation in equal measure. Every single minute counts. For the first time, the three crews that constitute Peugeot’s dream team will all take turns behind the wheel. Following shakedown tests at Freneuse, Montlhéry and Creusot elsewhere in France, the beast now has the opportunity to demonstrate its mettle across rocky terrain that offers a foretaste of the kind of adventure that awaits it in South America. Now that Carlos Sainz has drawn upon his experience to identify the inevitable initial teething troubles, his two new team-mates have also come along to help out. On the programme is validation of the modifications made to the chassis and cooling system. Stéphane Peterhansel settles into the high-perched cockpit of his new mount. The French multiple Dakar winner wastes little time in heading towards this track, which represents a real challenge – even for a vehicle that aspires to the life of a trailblazer. As the kilometres pass by, Stéphane confesses to experiencing a genuine culture shock: “Switching over to two-wheel-drive changes everything!” he cheerfully reflects. -

The presidents of Russia, Turkey and France were among global chiefs at the talks held under the auspices of the United Nations, which wants foreign powers wielding influence in the region to stop interfering in the war - be it through weapons, troops or financing. Leaders of both warring factions - strongman Khalifa Haftar and the head of Tripoli’s UN-recognized govern- ment Fayez Al-Sarraj - were also in Berlin for the first such gathering since 2018. But pro-Haftar forces upped the ante on the eve of the talks by blocking oil exports at Libya’s key ports, crippling the country’s main income source in protest at Turkey’s decision to send troops to shore up Sarraj’s Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA). Ahead of the talks, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan lashed out at Haftar, saying he needed to drop his “hostile attitude” if Libya is to have any chance at winning peace. -

New Renault Race Truck for Firemen Dakarteam
--- PRESS RELEASE --- Hillegom, June 25th 2019 NEW RENAULT RACE TRUCK FOR FIREMEN DAKARTEAM Firemen Dakarteam during 2019 rally in Peru The Firemen Dakarteam will start the Dakar Rally in January 2020 with a (for them) new racing truck. To continue their upward trend after three rallies, it is time for the next step; an even better truck. A few weeks after the finish of the Dakar 2019, we came in contact with racing truck manufacturer MKR in the Czech Republic. Not long afterwards we visited the factory in the Czech Republic. MKR already produces (Renault) racing trucks for top international professional teams (including Riwald and the Mammoet Rally team). “A different surface means a different configuration of the truck. To make the current truck lighter, stronger, more modern and stiffer for the 2020 rally, meant so much work has to be done that we might as well start thinking about another / new(er) truck”, says Richard de Groot. Together with Mario Kress (director and owner of MKR Group Europe) we had several good conversations. “The Firemen Dakarteam is a very serious team that wants to continue to grow in the positive Dakar spirit. Not only for himself, but also for their partners, sponsors and the organizing countries ”- says Kress. In the end, the Firemen Dakarteam and MKR agreed that the Firemen Dakarteam can use the truck of Janus van Kasteren from the previous rally for the 2020 rally. “A considerable step forward for the 2020 Dakar Rally. To be honest, that is a dream I never thought would come true.
