A tough day for PETRONAS Team De Rooy IVECO in Stage 8 of Dakar Rally 2020 Flat tyres, mechanical issues and big, soft dunes made for a hard day that ended with a loss of precious time for the team’s drivers Wadi Al-Dawasir, January 13th, 2020 The 8th stage of the Dakar Rally presented a big challenge for the crews and the PETRONAS Team De Rooy IVECO suffered some setbacks that produced significant loss of time for the drivers. Janus van Kasteren started the stage in good form, but two flat tyres, one at the beginning and the other one at the end, cost him time. The biggest obstacle was a very soft dune where he got stuck, but with Van de Laar’s help he was able to resume racing. Van Kasteren positioned his #505 truck in 16th place, 51m02s behind leader Karginov. It is a setback for his objective of getting into the Top 5 of the overall classification, as he remains in 7th position, almost an hour away from fifth-placed Sotnikov. Michiel Becx had a good run in Stage 8, which was the second loop of the race with beginning and end in Wadi Al-Dawasir. The Dutchman from PETRONAS Team De Rooy IVECO finished 18th, getting his fourth Top 20 result in a row, and he climbs one place to 16th in the general standings. Albert Llovera also had a hard time on the tough roads of Saudi Arabia, with level 1 and 2 dunes of very soft sand that can be very treacherous for the drivers. -

Engines from Liebherr for Successful Kamaz Racing Trucks in Dakar Rally
Press information Engines from Liebherr for successful Kamaz racing trucks in Dakar rally Bulle, FR (Switzerland) March 31, 2014 – Among the 75 trucks that took up the starting position in January 2014 for the Dakar rally, five were trucks from Kamaz Master, the motor sport team from the Russian company Kamaz OJSC. Three of the trucks were equipped with 8-cylinder engines from Liebherr. In the overall ranking, the trucks gained third and fifth place. The third truck had to retire during the second stage of the race due to an accident on difficult terrain. In mid- March 2014, one of the trucks used in the rally and its driver, Eduard Nikolaev, came to visit Liebherr Machines Bulle SA where the engines were developed and manufactured. Kamaz in Dakar rally The Dakar rally, or better known simply as The Dakar, is one of the toughest challenges for drivers, vehicles and their components. Since 2009, for reasons of safety, its venue is no longer North Africa but Latin America instead. In 2014, a total of 204 vehicles crossed the finishing line in Valparaíso, Chile, in the motorcycle, quad, car and truck categories – which equates to only about 47% of all of the vehicles that started. In the trucks category, 71 vehicles started from Rosario in Argentina. Of that number, 50 reached the finish line after an overall distance of about 9370 km, spread over 13 stages. The Kamaz Master team, formed 25 years ago, has dominated the event in the truck sector for many years and has won a total of twelve times since 1996. -

Dakar 2017: Gerard De Rooy Keeps Fighting for the Lead Ton Van Genugten Places the PETRONAS De Rooy IVECO Team in the Top 5 of the Special
Dakar 2017: Gerard de Rooy keeps fighting for the lead Ton van Genugten places the PETRONAS De Rooy IVECO Team in the Top 5 of the special. Gerard de Rooy looses seven minutes in the stage, falling back in third place, but is just two minutes behind the leader in the overall classification. Federico Villagra places the best IVECO truck of the day, finishing in second place. Turin, 11 January 2017 Bad weather conditions are having a negative effect in 2017 Dakar Rally. For the third day of racing in a row, the organisation is forced to cancel part of a stage. The Truck category was the most affected, with its race finished after the first control point. As a consequence of the heavy rain, Route 9 in Jujuy was blocked by an avalanche and the caravan had to stop on its way to the biouvac in Salta. Ton van Genugten was the man of the day for the PETRONAS De Rooy IVECO Team, as he finished just 3m49s behind Martin van der Brink, winner of the stage. The Dutchman in the #507 Trakker is maintaining a good pace in the toughest roads of South America, but regrets the six hours lost in the mud a couple of specials behind, which is keeping him far away from the leaders in the overall classification. Gerard de Rooy suffered another puncture and lost the first place in the general. Yesterday’s setback was not big: he arrived only seven minutes behind the leader, falling back to the third place with his #500 Powerstar, so that he is only 2m20s away from the lead. -
Dakar 2014: Gerard De Rooy in Second Place. Three Iveco Vehicles
Dakar 2014: Gerard De Rooy in second place. Three Iveco vehicles in the top ten Dutchman De Rooy concludes his performance in South America on the second step of the podium. Great confirmation of the reliability of its vehicles for Iveco. Turin, 19 January 2014 Second place for Iveco and for driver Gerard De Rooy behind the wheel of a Powerstar in the 2014 Dakar edition. The battle for the top step of the podium came down to the wire for the Dutch driver who fought until the last second of the race before giving in ahead of the Russian colossus Kamaz, driven by Karginov. After yielding ground during the eleventh stage, Gerard De Rooy was unable to run-up on his rival, narrowly missing out on the opportunity to duplicate the prestigious success achieved in the 2012 Dakar edition, despite the great perseverance and persistence he demonstrated up to the end. The other members of Team Petronas De Rooy Iveco also placed well: Dutchman Hans Stacey, driving an Iveco Trakker Evolution, took seventh place in the standings, Spaniard Pep Vila and Frenchman Jo Adua took tenth and 22 nd place respectively, both behind the wheel of an Iveco Trakker Evolution 2. Gerard de Rooy said immediately after he finished the last stage of Dakar 2014: " It was a tough test. It was not a good idea to have the trucks and cars start together. That was also the case last year and we told A.S.O. (Amaury Sport Organisation). Eventually I did everything that was in my power. -

Dakar 2014: Gerard de Rooy with Iveco Powerstar wins 12th stage • Iveco team leader remains second in the standings • All four Iveco’s still going strong Turin, January 18 2014 It was a thrilling race yesterday for the trucks and the Special was eventually won by Gerard de Rooy. He was with his Iveco Powerstar 31 seconds faster than his rival Karginov and crossed the finish line in 1st place. Nikolaev came third with a time gap of 3:18 minutes . Gerard de Rooy at the finish: "We had a hard time on the bad section between 170 and 200 kilometers in the stage, just before we went into the dunes. All those holes and stones are not really my thing. Once in the dunes it was fantastic and we could pass Nikolaev. He was nice for us because he pulled over. We could make up some minutes to Karginov between WP9 and WP10 and that did not surprise me. However, it disappoints me that he could take back some time”. After WP4 Loprais had a massive plunge in the rankings with his Tatra and now is at a distance of nearly 2 hours. Hans Stacey finished with his IVECO Trakker at 7th spot with a gap of 30:35 minutes. Pep Vila crossed the finish line in 9th place and lost 41:02 minutes to the leader of the stage. Jo Adua had started a real catch-up race and finished in 17th place with his Iveco Trakker. He had to start on 35th place after problems with his front axle in the trial of the previous day. -
Winning the Dakar Like a Boss
Buenos Aires, the 17th of January, 2015 Winning the Dakar like a boss 216. The number of competitors who managed to finish the 2015 Dakar (79 motorcycles, 18 quads, 68 cars and 51 trucks) out of the 420 which started the rally. Two of them, Ivan Jakeš and Robby Gordon, won the final stage in the motorcycle and car categories, respectively. However, the spotlight was on Marc Coma, who drew upon his experience to take his fifth Dakar, and Nasser Al-Attiyah, who claimed his second one after dominating the entire two-week rally. Marc Coma is now level with Cyril Despres, a fact which will please the Frenchman's eternal rival at the Dakar to no end and —just like his former teammate— puts him just one triumph away from the record held by legend Stéphane Peterhansel. Their equal number of wins takes on a special dimension considering the dominance of the two men throughout the last ten editions of the Dakar, as well as the good-natured competition which fuels their ambition. For the first time in ten years, Despres was not there to take the fight to Coma, having switched to the car category this year, but the Spaniard still had to fight tooth and nail for his resounding victory in Buenos Aires... As in 2014, Joan Barreda was clearly the toughest rival the KTM rider came up against in Argentina, Chile and Bolivia. The HRC rider won stage 2 with the added bonus of the overall lead, opening a crucial 12-minute gap thanks to the latter's tyre problems.
