Michelle Cold Creek Merlot The 2002 Cold Creek Merlot showcases inviting aromas of pomegranate, raspberry and Rainier cherry fruit notes with a slight hint of caraway. Flavors of black cherry and plum with lively, substantial tannins make this a big palate-pleasing wine. Always spectacular, the 2007 is another in a string of great Cabernets from the Duckhorn Estate. Rippling with soft and silky cassis and blackcurrant fruit, there is also a complementary note of toasted tobacco and tea components, and a finish that hints at vanilla. Deep garnet in color, the 1988 Bordeaux Pauillac Lynch Bages shows a very intense nose of kirsch, plums, tar, leather and earth. It is full-bodied on the palate, with medium acidity, medium supple residual tannins, and flavors mirroring the nose. The middle palate is full and the finish is long and smooth. This wine is drinking beautifully now and it should continue to provide enjoyment for many more years. Rated a 95 by Wine Spectator, the 1988 Bordeaux Pauillac Pichon-Baron is a must have. It is a classic new style of Pichon-Baron, with rich, thick, velvety tannins and complex berry, currant and mint character. Full-bodied, it’s extremely well balanced for showing such impressive power. It has the characteristics of a warm and classic Pinot Noir that allowed the fruit to fully ripen and for the tannins to become soft and integrated. On the palate it has amazingly rich, powerful, round, and voluptuous fruit flavors. There are amazing pure black cherry notes that combine with hints of strawberry pie, cola, cedar spice and dark chocolate. It is a savory and sexy wine that shows a full throttle richness and depth, and a long, extended finish. DONOR: Lindsey Johnson VALUE: $50 TOTAL BOTTLES: 1 6013 2008 Doubleback Cabernet Sauvignon The 2008 Doubleback is a deep, elegant ruby color in the glass. The beautiful nose displays cherries, wet stones, dried meats and a hint of cinnamon. This vintage is remarkably well balanced on the palate. Cherries, strawberries and pomegranates are all present, mixed with hints of mocha chocolate and cloves. The finish and mouth feel are lush and velvety making you long for your next sip. This Terra d’Oro (Land of Gold) Barbera is a reserve bottling and offers enticing aromas of black cherries, toasted nuts, cocoa and spice with rich, round and soft flavors much like a Merlot. It is already drinking gorgeously. The wine has a stunning bouquet of berries, fresh blooming flowers, cedar shavings and mocha. On the palate, it is incredibly long, lush, and soft, with pure fruit and melted caramel. This is a truly hedonistic Merlot and a fine example of why Leonetti Cellars is so well recognized.
