Based on Comparative Morphological Data AF Emel'yanov Transactions of T
The phylogeny of the Cicadina (Homoptera, Cicadina) based on comparative morphological data A.F. Emel’yanov Transactions of the All-Union Entomological Society Morphological principles of insect phylogeny The phylogenetic relationships of the principal groups of cicadine* insects have been considered on more than one occasion, commencing with Osborn (1895). Some phylogenetic schemes have been based only on data relating to contemporary cicadines, i.e. predominantly on comparative morphological data (Kirkaldy, 1910; Pruthi, 1925; Spooner, 1939; Kramer, 1950; Evans, 1963; Qadri, 1967; Hamilton, 1981; Savinov, 1984a), while others have been constructed with consideration given to paleontological material (Handlirsch, 1908; Tillyard, 1919; Shcherbakov, 1984). As the most primitive group of the cicadines have been considered either the Fulgoroidea (Kirkaldy, 1910; Evans, 1963), mainly because they possess a small clypeus, or the cicadas (Osborn, 1895; Savinov, 1984), mainly because they do not jump. In some schemes even the monophyletism of the cicadines has been denied (Handlirsch, 1908; Pruthi, 1925; Spooner, 1939; Hamilton, 1981), or more precisely in these schemes the Sternorrhyncha were entirely or partially depicted between the Fulgoroidea and the other cicadines. In such schemes in which the Fulgoroidea were accepted as an independent group, among the remaining cicadines the cicadas were depicted as branching out first (Kirkaldy, 1910; Hamilton, 1981; Savinov, 1984a), while the Cercopoidea and Cicadelloidea separated out last, and in the most widely acknowledged systematic scheme of Evans (1946b**) the last two superfamilies, as the Cicadellomorpha, were contrasted to the Cicadomorpha and the Fulgoromorpha. At the present time, however, the view affirming the equivalence of the four contemporary superfamilies and the absence of a closer relationship between the Cercopoidea and Cicadelloidea (Evans, 1963; Emel’yanov, 1977) is gaining ground. -
1. Veel Voorkomende Begraafplaatsen 2. Gemeenten
Penestragania Apicalis (Osborn & Ball, 1898), Another Invasive
©Arbeitskreis Zikaden Mitteleuropas e.V. - download unter www.biologiezentrum.at Cicadina 13 (2013): 5‐15 Penestragania apicalis (Osborn & Ball, 1898), another invasive Nearctic leafhopper found in Europe (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae, Iassinae) Herbert Nickel*, Henry Callot, Eva Knop, Gernot Kunz, Klaus Schrameyer, Peter Sprick, Tabea Turrini‐Biedermann, Sabine Walter Summary: In 2010 the Nearctic leafhopper Penestragania apicalis (Osb. & Ball) was found for the first time in Europe. Altogether there are now 16 known localities in France, Switzerland, Germany and Austria indicating that the species is well es‐ tablished for a rather long period and more widespread in Europe and perhaps worldwide. As in North America it lives on honeylocust (Gleditsia triacanthos L.), overwinters in the egg stage and probably has one or two generations a year, with adults at least from late June until early October. It is yet unclear if it causes relevant damage to the host plant in Europe. Keywords: alien species, neozoa, plant pests, Iassinae, Gleditsia 1. Introduction In 2012 a leafhopper was found in several localities in central Europe that was hitherto unknown to European hemipterists. Extensive search in taxonomic litera‐ ture from all around the world revealed that it was Penestragania apicalis (Osborn & Ball, 1898). This species was originally described from Iowa and Nebraska as a member of the genus Macropsis Lewis, 1834 (see Osborn & Ball 1898a), later placed into Bythoscopus Germar, 1833, Stragania Stål, 1862 (see Metcalf 1966a), and finally Penestragania Beamer & Lawson, 1945. The latter was originally erected as a subge‐ nus only and later raised to genus level by Blocker (1979) who limited the genus Stragania to the type species St. -

Medler INTRODUCTION HIS bulletin attempts to present as accurate and complete a T guide to the leafhoppers of Minnesota as possible within the limits of the material available for study. It is realized that cer- tain groups could not be treated completely because of the lack of available material. Nevertheless, it is hoped that in its present form this treatise will serve as a convenient and useful manual for the systematic and economic worker concerned with the forms of the upper Mississippi Valley. In all cases a reference to the original description of the species and genus is given. Keys are included for the separation of species, genera, and supergeneric groups. In addition to the keys a brief diagnostic description of the important characters of each species is given. Extended descriptions or long lists of references have been omitted since citations to this literature are available from other sources if ac- tually needed (Van Duzee, 1917). -

For Japananus Hyalinus
Rapid Pest Risk Analysis (PRA) for Japananus hyalinus STAGE 1: INITIATION 1. What is the name of the pest? Japananus hyalinus (Osborn) Hemiptera Cicadellidae Japanese maple leafhopper Synonyms: Japananus meridionalis Bonfils Platymetopius cinctus Matsumura Platymetopius hyalinus Osborn 2. What initiated this rapid PRA? In 1999 two leafhoppers identified as J. hyalinus were intercepted on Acer palmatum 'Katsura' imported from South Korea. An entry for this species was included on the UK Plant Health Pest Risk Register in 2013 and identified as a priority to update a previous PRA written in 1999 (Fera 2013), in particular to assess its potential establishment given the spread of J. hyalinus across Europe (Mifsud et al. 2010). 3. What is the PRA area? The PRA area is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. STAGE 2: RISK ASSESSMENT 4. What is the pest’s status in the EC Plant Health Directive (Council Directive 2000/29/EC1) and in the lists of EPPO2? The pest is not listed in the EC Plant Health Directive and is not recommended for regulation as a quarantine pest by EPPO, nor is it on the EPPO Alert List. 5. What is the pest’s current geographical distribution? J. hyalinus was first identified from the USA, but it is widely believed to originate from eastern Asia, though some authors dispute this due to the main host plant in Europe being the native Acer campestre, rather than ornamentally grown Asian species (Nickel and Remane 2002). It was first introduced into Europe in Austria in 1961, but its range has expanded considerably in recent years (Mifsud et al. -
