THIRTEENTH CONGRESS OF THE REPUBLIC ) OF THE PHILIPPINES Second Regular Session ) Introduced by Senator Lapid RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING BlNlBlNlNG PILIPINAS INTERNATIONAL TITLE HOLDER MISS PRECIOUS LARA QUIGAMAN FOR BEING CROWNED AS THE 2005 MISS INTERNATIONAL HELD IN TOKYO, JAPAN LAST SEPTEMBER 26, 2005, DEMONSTRATING TO THE WHOLE WORLD THE INTELLIGENCE, TALENT, BEAUTY AND COURAGE INNATE IN EVERY FILIPINO WHEREAS, Ms. Precious Lara Quigaman, who won the Binibining Pilipinas International Title in March 19, 2005, participated and officially represented the Philippines in the prestigious 2005 Miss International Pageant in Tokyo, Japan; WHEREAS, Ms. Quigaman bested 52 other delegates from all over the world in the annual international beauty pageant making her the fourth Filipina to be exalted with the prestigious international title after several years of participation; WHEREAS, Ms. Quigaman, as an accomplished freelance web writer and model who completed two college degrees namely NVQ Media Production and Communications at Filton College and Bachelor of Arts major in Childhood and Youth Studies at Bristol in the United Kingdom of Great Britain, was able to affirm her worth through exemplary display of her talent, intelligence and notable physical beauty; WHEREAS, the victory of Wls. Quigaman has proven once again that the Philippines can be supreme over the rest of the world making us all proud to be Filipinos; WHEREAS, Ms. Quigaman has undoubtedly participated in the 2005 Miss International Pageant not only to win the title for herself but more so to earn the honor and glory the country has long been yearning for in the event. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, as it is hereby resolved, that the Senate expresses its sincere congratulations to the Binibining Pilipinas International title holder Miss Precious Lara Quigaman for being crowned as the 2005 Miss International held in Tokyo, Japan last September 26, 2005, demonstrating to the whole world the intelligence, talent, beauty and courage innate in every Filipino. Volume XXVI No. 11 November 2008 www.filipinostar.org Survey report reveals plight of Filipino caregivers, need for reforms Montreal, November 20, 2008 CTV news aired the release of a study about the plight of Filipino caregivers which brought to the attention of the public what the Live-in Caregiver Program is all about and how it has affected the lives of migrant workers who are mostly women. The study was undertaken through the collaborative efforts of PINAY members and the students and researchers of McGill University’s School of Social Work and the assistance of specialists from UQAM. PINAY, an organization of Filipino women in Quebec, founded in 1991, has been playing a key role in the struggle to protect the rights and welfare of migrants and immigrants, especially Filipina domestic workers and their families living and working in Quebec. During a seminar held at 6767 Cote des Neiges, a dramatization of the difficult working conditions of live-in caregivers, was an eye opener to what has long been hidden in the privacy of homes where they work.
