Speedball Handout

Basics The object of speedball is to outscore your opponent by scoring goals into the soccer goal or into the hoop.

Teams may pass the ball by hand or by foot in order to move the ball up the floor. Passes may be made in any direction.

After a score, the game does not stop. Play continues with the non-scoring team assuming possession.

The goalie may go anywhere on his/her half of the court. They can only use their hands in the 3 area. Goalies do have blocker pads to protect the SOCCER goal. They are not to be used in anyway to a basketball shot or to block a person from making a basketball shot. They also cannot throw the pad at the ball. The goalie may not throw the ball to a person over half court, a turnover will result if this happens.

A player may toss the ball to himself/herself and catch it once each time he or she gains possession of the ball. (air dribble)

A player may kick the ball up to himself using one or two feet.

Players cannot shoot or kick the ball if they are not on the side they are to score on.

Ball that is trapped under a foot or between their feet should not be kicked away from the person in possession. If this occurs, the person who had it trapped gets the ball back in their hands.

Fouls Offensive players may not enter the goalie box when shooting a soccer goal. Defensive players need to stay out of the goalie box as well they can help the goalie outside of the box but cannot be inside it.

No ball may be picked up directly off of the floor. In addition, the ball may only be caught if it was kicked into the air or if it bounced off another object after it hit the floor.

Illegal use of the hands is a turnover and the possession of the ball is then granted to the opposing team.
