NOT FOR PUBLICATION UNTIL RELEASED BY THE COMMITTEE ON OVERSIGHT AND REFORM STATEMENT FOR THE RECORD OF MR. KELLY MCKEAGUE DIRECTOR, DEFENSE POW/MIA ACCOUNTING AGENCY BEFORE THE SUBCOMMITTEE ON NATIONAL SECURITY COMMITTEE ON OVERSIGHT AND REFORM U.S HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES October 29, 2019 NOT FOR PUBLICATION UNTIL RELEASED BY THE COMMITTEE ON OVERSIGHT AND REFORM INTRODUCTION Mr. Chairman, Ranking Member Hice, and distinguished members of the Subcommittee, it is a privilege to appear before you today. As provided in Section 916 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2015 (NDAA for FY 2015), then Secretary of Defense Hagel established the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) in 2015 as the single organization within the Department of Defense (DoD) responsible for policy, control, and oversight of the program to resolve missing person cases; to account for missing persons from past conflicts, including locating, recovering, and identifying the remains of the missing; dissemination of appropriate information regarding these efforts to family members; and establishment of a means for communications between DPAA and the family members, veterans service organizations (VSO), concerned citizens, and the public on the Department’s past conflict accounting efforts. DPAA was established by merging the Defense POW/Missing Personnel Office, the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command, and past conflict elements of the Air Force’s Life Sciences Equipment Laboratory. The agency’s overarching mission is to harness resources, research, and conduct operations to maximize the number of DoD personnel missing from past conflicts accounted for annually, while ensuring timely and accurate information is provided to their families and the public.

What is Scrabble? The game of Scrabble has been around since 1933 in one form or another in Western society, so I’ve always thought that everyone would have least heard of it. It wasn’t until recently that I realised there are people out there who don’t know what it is. Oddly enough, one of my relatives who is a very worldly character having run various clubs in his day, whom you would have thought was very knowledgeable brought this fact home to me, he was unaware of what it is.

Hank Marvin album HANK set for release 2nd June 2014 Submitted by: Bennett Public Relations Thursday, 10 April 2014 Hank Marvin, the legendary guitarist and modern day icon, who has inspired generations and garnered critical acclaim throughout his career for his work with The Shadows and as a solo artist, releases a long-awaited new studio album on 2 June 2014. Simply titled HANK, the album will be released on the DMG TV label. Featuring 14 tracks, HANK includes fresh interpretations of some of Marvin’s favourite summer-themed music, along with one new composition. It’s the first new release since 2007’s UK Top 10 Guitar Man, for the man whose legendary achievements were restated yet again in The Times in February 2014, when he was listed as Number 2, amongst the world’s greatest guitar players and The Shadows amongst the greatest groups! It’s been 60 years since the man who introduced the Fender Stratocaster to the UK, picked up his first musical instrument. Marvin’s performances as a solo frontman and with The Shadows on their records and backing Cliff Richard have resulted in millions of worldwide record sales. The Shadows’ monumental chart debut with Apache in 1960 started an incredible run of 13 UK Top 10 hits for the group in just 4 years, during which time their unmistakeable style became a household sound around the world. Hank and The Shadows ruled the charts during the early 1960s and as a solo artist from the late 1970s to the present day Hank Marvin has sold in excess of 6 million albums.

  • Intersections in Gameplay and Narrative in Contemporary
Straddling the Great Divide: Intersections in Gameplay and Narrative in Contemporary Japanese Role-Playing Games by Sarah Michelle Helland A THESIS SUBMITTED IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DEGREE OF MASTER OF ARTS in THE COLLEGE OF GRADUATE STUDIES (Interdisciplinary Graduate Studies) THE UNIVERSITY OF BRITISH COLUMBIA (Okanagan) August 2013 © Sarah Michelle Helland, 2013 Abstract This project explores questions concerning whether digital games should be studied in terms of narrative, ludology (gameplay), or both. The project begins by discussing the current state of Game Studies and the ‘narrative vs. ludology’ debate. The author provides a brief outline of contemporary theory surrounding the debate before asserting her central thesis that both gameplay and narrative are integral components of player experience and that both must be acknowledged. The author then outlines her research methodology, which includes textual analyses of two popular Japanese role-playing games. By examining the ways in which morality is depicted in both games, the author posits that the functions of both gameplay and narrative in constructing player experience will become evident. A brief discussion of what constitutes a role-playing game is provided, followed by a discussion of the ways in which digital role-playing games are cultural products. The author includes an analysis of narrative conventions in contemporary Japanese role-playing games in order to resist Eurocentric readings of the two games to be examined. The textual analyses begin with an examination of gameplay in Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. An analysis of the game’s narrative elements such as plot, characterization, and theme follows. Through this analysis, the author observes a marked focus upon collectivist morality, which is clearly observable in both the gameplay and narrative elements of the game.

  • Patching Old Floorboards
Patching Old Floorboards SPAB Technical Advice Note Philip Hughes BSc, MRICS (Chartered Building Surveyor) and SPAB Scholar The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings 37 Spital Square London E1 6DY 020 7377 1644 [email protected] www.spab.org.uk Contents An old floor of wide boards – scrubbed or polished for generations and uneven from wear – adds considerable richness to any room in an old building. A floor is one of the principal surfaces of a room, yet ancient boards are often badly abused. Bodged attempts to replace boards are common. Even when replacement is completed satisfactorily, the result will not always be visually acceptable. In addition, replacement of floors in their entirety often takes place unnecessarily.
