It is young, entrepreneurial, educated, culturally active, artistic, and caring. It is the home of the second largest urban Aboriginal population in Canada. As well, Edmonton is the corporate and political headquarters of many Alberta Aboriginal organizations and government agencies. The “Aboriginal community” is not one community, but “many communities”, and is, therefore, a reflection of the diverse and multifaceted Aboriginal population that makes Edmonton their home. The Aboriginal people in Edmonton have roots that are deeply sown and well-traveled through- out the whole of the City and extend from the past, through to the present, and will continue well into the future. The City of Edmonton’s Edmonton Aboriginal Urban Affairs Committee (EAUAC), Aboriginal Edmonton Guide founder, in partnership with the Edmonton Aboriginal Relations Office have worked collaboratively to reproduce this guide with the intent to help you navigate the diverse and friendly Edmonton community. We hope you find it useful. Your feedback and suggestions are welcomed. HOW TO USE THIS GUIDE We have categorized the contents by sectors followed by an alphabetical listing of all organizations and service providers. 2 www.edmonton.ca/aro ABORIGINAL RELATIONS OFFICE Diversity and Inclusion Deputy City Manager’s Office Suite 901, Tower 2, Scotia Place 10060 – Jasper Avenue Edmonton, AB T5J 3R8 Phone: 780-944-7602 Fax: 780-944-8504 Email: [email protected] www.edmonton.ca/aro www.edmonton.ca/aro 3 EMERGENCY SERVICES 911 - Edmonton Police / Fire / Ambulance PHONE: 911 FIRE: if 911 is busy, call 496-3900 SERVICES: Police, Fire and Ambulance emergencies AADAC - Alberta Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission TOLL FREE: 1-866-332-2322 (24 Hour Help Line) WEBSITE: www.aadac.com SERVICES: If you, or someone you know, is experiencing problems with alcohol, other drugs, tobacco or gambling, AADAC is here to help.
