PRE-MATCH REPORT WALES vs FRANCE GUINNESS SIX NATIONS 2020 HEAD TO HEAD - Of the sides’ 20 meetings in the Guinness Six Nations, the results have been split evenly, with Wales and France boasting ten wins apiece. France have outscored the Welsh in those games by 424 points to 395. - Wales have claimed victory in seven of the last eight meetings in the Championship, with France’s sole win in that time coming in Paris - a two-point victory in March 2017. - None of the last five meetings between the sides have been decided by 10 points or more in the Guinness Six Nations, while three of the previous four ended with the sides separated by double-figure points totals. - Each side have won five times in Cardiff, while their last meeting there saw Wales run out single-point victors - the only time there’s been a single point between the sides in Guinness Six Nations history. - The teams have played in round three of the Guinness Six Nations on eight previous occasions - the results being split four wins apiece, with Wales outscoring France 169-155 in these games. COMMON STATISTICS Wales (9.5) and France (8.0) are the sides who lead the Guinness Six Nations in terms of opposition 22 entries per match. While the Welsh hold the slight advantage here, it’s France who produce a better points-per-entry ratio: 3.38 points compared to the Welsh average of 2.63 points. - Both sides are gaining metres in over half their carry attempts as France (51.5%) edge Wales (50.3%) in that category in the 2020 Championship. France have managed to convert their carries into slightly more metres than their opponents too, carrying for 656 metres per match in the competition compared to Wales’ 634 metres per contest. - While the Welsh are missing just 7.2% of their tackles (2% less than France) in the 2020 Championship, dominant tackles ac- count for just 8.2% of their overall made tackles - 4% less than the French total of 12.2%. - Wales (48.0%) and France (44.5%) have the two lowest possession totals in this year’s Guinness Six Nations Championship, with France (44.0%) also possessing the worst territorial advantage in the competition. - No side has scored more points in the final 20 minutes of this year’s Guinness Six Nations than Wales (23). The final 20 minutes is also the period in which France have conceded the majority of their points - 56.4% - the highest 20-minute points concession period of any team in the Championship. WALES STATISTICS - Wales’ defeat to Ireland ended an eight-game winning run in the Guinness Six Nations - their joint-longest such run in Champi- onship history. The 24 points they conceded were also the highest points tally an opposition has mustered against them since the 37-27 defeat to Ireland back in February 2018. This defeat was their last game before their eight-game winning run. - Wales’ last Guinness Six Nations home defeat to a side other than England or Ireland was almost exactly ten years ago - a 26-20 loss to France on February 26th, 2020. ©Copyright Stats Perform 2020. • Captaincy and Leadership in Rugby Union
Captaincy and Leadership in Rugby Union HELP, Second Year List of contents 1. Introduction 2. The Four Captains 3. The Views of The Captains 4. Comparing and Contrasting the Captain’s Views 5. Interim Conclusions: Part One 6. Quali - Quantitative Survey 7. Interim Conclusions: Part Two 8. Leadership in Life 9. Overall Conclusions and Learnings 10. What Have I Learned? 11. Appendices 1. Introduction In this project, I am going to either prove or disprove two hypotheses: • firstly, that the position of a rugby player will make a difference to what they think a great captain is; and • secondly, that for a captain to be great, they do not have to be the best in their position. I will prove or disprove these hypotheses through the following research: • conducting semi-quantitative surveys • reading and analysing 4 great rugby captains’ autobiographies (qualitative research) and their views on leadership and captaincy • and finally wider online research. Rugby is a sport and subject that I am very passionate about, and I aspire to play at the highest level. Currently I play for Hampton U13 Bs and my club (Twickenham) first team. I find captaincy interesting as I think it takes great skill and certain characteristics to be a good captain let alone a country-leading world-famous great captain. My personal experiences of rugby captaincy have been periodically with my school team and regularly for my club. My personal view of rugby captaincy based on my experiences is that you need to be the hardest-working player on the pitch at all times – you may not be the most skilled, but you can be the hardest-working, and respect from your team- mates and from your coaches comes from this work ethic.

A heart-wrenching and ultimately life-affirming story that demonstrates the power of love to see us through the darkest of times. When Holocaust survivor Lily Ebert was liberated in 1945, a Jewish-American soldier gave her a banknote on which he’d written ‘Good luck and happiness’. And when her great-grandson, Dov, decided to use social media to track down the family of the GI in 2020, 96-year-old Lily found herself making headlines around the world. Lily had promised herself that if she survived Auschwitz she would tell everyone the truth about the camp.

With the British & Irish Cup games now over for this period we can get back to the business of the East Division and the second meeting between the Blue & Blacks and the Black and Ambers this season. The first game back in August saw the Blue & Blacks start a run of four consecutive wins that set Cardiff on their way to second place in the table. On the day Cardiff ran in four tries including a hat-trick for Pat Lewis in what was an open game of rugby in the sunshine. Since that run times have been a little tougher for the Blue & Blacks. Three consecutive losses have seen us slip fourth in the table. The last game here had the scoreboard showing Pontypridd running away with the game at the end.

  • Wales Win Six Nations As Scotland Upset ‘Disappointed’ France
14 Established 1961 Sports Sunday, March 28, 2021 Photo of the day Rashford, Saka out of England qualifiers LONDON: Marcus Rashford and Bukayo Saka have both been ruled out of England’s World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Poland, the Football Association announced Friday. England launched their bid to play in the finals of Qatar 2022 with a comprehensive 5-0 thrashing of minnows San Marino at Wembley on Thursday. Rashford and Saka both missed that match and the FA have now confirmed the pair will miss England’s other two qualifying matches this month. England travel to Tirana today and face Poland at Wembley on Wednesday - their last fixture before manager Gareth Southgate names his squad for this year’s Covid-delayed European Championships. “Marcus Rashford and Bukayo Saka will play no part in England’s forthcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers,” the FA said in a statement. “Rashford reported to St George’s Park with an injury that ruled him out of the 5-0 win against San Marino and, following further assessment, it has been decided he will continue his rehabilitation with Manchester United. “Saka had remained at Arsenal for further assess- ment on an ongoing issue with the hope of joining up with the Three Lions but will now not be available for the fixtures against Albania and Poland.” Arsenal teenager Saka made his England debut against Wales in October and has since won a further three caps. Rashford only appeared in two of England’s eight fixtures in 2020 and has now been ruled out with a foot injury that made him miss Manchester United’s FA Cup quarter-final defeat at Leicester.
