27Th May 2017 Round 11 27th May 2017 Round 11 SEASON TOTAL 1 Josh Renton TEAM 1 14 2 Josh Ioane 14 3 Josh Walden 11 4 Tom Rowe 10 5 Leroy van Dam 9 6 Jona Nareki 9 7 Mika Mafi 9 8 Matt McCutcheon 8 9 Chucky Koroi 8 ROUND 11, May 27 2017 Watson Park, 2.45pm HARBOUR GREEN ISLAND It’ll be a day of celebration out at Watson Park as the Harbour RFC celebrate 25 years since the Port Chalmers and Ravensbourne clubs joined forces. With this in mind the premier side will look to cap off what plans to be a wonderful weekend with a victory over Green Island. Harbour enter the clash as the form side, having knocked off Southern last week on the back of a huge defensive display. Expect Harbour to set the platform with their big forwards, before giving the ball some life and letting their dangerous backline including Harimate, Halaleva and Tomkinson run havoc. For Green Island, they’ll head to Watson Park full of optimism as they search for their first win of the campaign. It would be wrong to consider the Grizzlies easy beats as they play with plenty of pride, however they will need to put in an 80minute performance to be a chance. If the Grizzlies can match it up front with Harbour then an upset could be on the cards. Players to Watch: Sala Halaleva (Harbour) is a player high in confidence in 2017, he is regarded as one of the best attacking players in the Premier competition and for Sala it doesn’t matter where he is on the field, he’s going to attack! Sala is genuine class so be sure to keep your eye on him! Woody Kirkwood (Green Island) an 18 year old quiet achiever who week in week out goes about his work. Woody has a huge engine and a good physical presence for a man of his age playing premier rugby. Expect Woody to lead with his actions again on Saturday. Final Word: Harbour victory in front of a near full capacity Watson Park crowd. HARBOUR GREEN ISLAND TEAM 1 Watson Park, 2.45pm . *Harbour 25th Jubilee* Referee: Shane McDermott (BOP) AR’s: R. Fast forward 9 years, multiple injuries, drive thru’s and heart breaking semi-final defeats and Simon AKA the big marn will run out for his 100th cap vs Taieri. “It’s been awesome to play for one club, I started at the back of the scrum and have now moved to the front, it’s a great club, with great supporters and players. I’ve played with a few boys right through from colts and it’s always good to see the new boys come through and join the team” Knight said. It’s been a great journey for Knight who in his 9 years has represented multiple Otago teams including 7s, Otago under 21s and the Otago B side. Knight still has ambition to go one further and represent Otago and is currently a member of the Otago Wider training group. Simon is held in high regard around the club with Southern RFC Club Chairman Blair Crawford having this to say “Simon to me is an old school rugby forward – a man of few words, he lets his actions do the talking. His country background and work ethic bring a lot to the Magpie team culture now that he is a stalwart of the team. He is a strong, raw boned forward who plays hard but fair. Now that he has decided to progress his game as a prop, and at only 27 years of age, he has a lot of rugby ahead of him. Hopefully he can make the step up to join his father Richard and Otago legend, and younger brother Adam in pulling on the Golden O.” All the best on the 100th Knighty! *Important to note Kori Rupene played his 100th earlier this season, at the time of publishing the Match Day Programme the ORFU were unaware this, however noted his 100th via Social media. Please ensure you notify the ORFU if a player is playing a milestone game - 50th, 100th etc. TAIERI SOUTHERN TEAM 1 Peter Johnstone Park, 2.45pm. ZZ Referee: Adam Morrison AR’s: J. Hibbs & M. The managing director of Gluy- as Motoring Group, Peter Gluyas, said 47 per cent of local motorists own utes and they’ll be penalised in two years’ time because their vehicles won’t meet emission standards. He said utes are essential on rural properties and the farm- ing community can’t do without them. “The ute market is a tool of trade and farmers require them to get round their farms and tow trailers,” Gluyas said.

University are winless in 4 (3 losses and a draw), whilst after a slow start Taieri are on a mini resurgence and are undefeated since 29th April. Key Clash: The forward pack battle is set to be decisive with a wet, cold day predicted. University will look to set the platform with Ricky Jackson, Angus Williams & Jack Sherratt, whilst Taieri will answer back with the likes of Josh Reid, Brendon Murdoch and Vinnie O’Connell. In the battle of the backs, Fletcher Smith makes a timely return for University and will take his place at Fullback. For Taieri rising star Matt Whangaa returns to the heart of the midfield, after a lengthy injury stint. Whangaa made his return via the Colts last week and after getting through 15mins, including scoring two tries has been elevated to the Premier side. Players to Watch: Taylor Haugh (University) one of many young guns in the University side, Haugh is an exceptional attacking threat including speed (1.57sec over 10m – Otago record) and agility. He has popped up at first five, wing and fullback this year, so don’t be surprised if Haugh roams on Saturday.

14 Established 1961 Sports Monday, July 20, 2020 Photo of the day Blue Jays denied Toronto games by Canadian officials NEW YORK: The Toronto Blue Jays will not play their 2020 Major League Baseball home games in their own ballpark after the Canadian government refused to give them a coronavirus travel exemption. The move leaves the club searching for a place to stage 30 home games without spectators, with Toronto’s season opener on Friday at Tampa Bay and the first home game set for July 29 against reigning World Series champion Washington. The Blue Jays were given permission to stage pre-sea- son workouts at their retractable-domed ballpark, Rogers Centre. But having clubs from across the United States visit without two-week quarantines was too great a risk to approve, said Marco Mendicino, Canada’s min- ister of immigration, refugees and citizenship. “Regular-season games would require repeated cross-border travel of Blue Jays players and staff, as well as opponent teams into and out of Canada,” Mendicino said in a statement. “Of particular concern, the Toronto Blue Jays would be required to play in locations where the risk of virus transmission remains high. “Based on the best-available public health advice, we have concluded the cross-border travel required for MLB regular season play would not adequately protect Canadians’ health and safety. “As a result, Canada will not be issuing a National Interest Exemption for the MLB’s regular season at this time.” Mendicino held out hope the Blue Jays could stage playoff games in Toronto in late September and October if they advance and if the virus is less widespread in the United States.
