JOCK HOBBS JOCK HOBBS MEMORIAL NATIONAL UNDER 19 TOURNAMENT Better known as Jock, Michael James Bowie Hobbs was born in Christchurch and represented Canterbury, Wellington and the All Blacks. He played 39 games in the black jersey - most of them on the openside flank - including 21 Tests and 16 matches as Captain. One of rugby’s greatest administrators, he secured the future of professional rugby in New Zealand in 1995 by leading negotiations with the players; from 2002 to 2010 was Chairman of New Zealand Rugby, which included successfully bidding for and hosting Rugby World Cup 2011; and ably represented New Zealand at international level. Hobbs passed away in 2012, following a struggle with cancer. GRAHAM MOURIE GRAHAM MOURIE CUP FOR THE PREMIERSHIP WINNER Graham Neil Kenneth Mourie was born in Opunake and represented Wellington, New Zealand Colts, New Zealand Juniors and New Zealand Universities before making his All Blacks debut in 1976. A talented loose forward, Mourie played in 61 matches, including 21 Tests and was Captain on 57 occasions, including the first time the All Blacks secured a Grand Slam, with wins over England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales in 1978. After hanging up his boots, Mourie coached Wellington and the and served on the New Zealand Rugby Board from 2002 until 2012, serving as NZR representative on a number of World Rugby committees. MICHAEL JONES MICHAEL JONES TROPHY FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP WINNER Michael Niko Jones was born in Auckland and was identified as a strong rugby talent at a young age, making his debut for the senior Auckland side at 20 years of age and earning selection in the New Zealand Colts in 1986. He made his debut for the All Blacks at Rugby World Cup 1987 - a year after playing one Test for Western Samoa in 1986 - and played 74 matches for that team, playing in all three loose forward positions. Jones moved into coaching as first Assistant Coach and then Head Coach of Samoa, stepping down from that role after Rugby World Cup 2007 and he was a Rugby Ambassador for Rugby World Cup 2011. DJ GRAHAM DJ GRAHAM PLAYER OF THE TOURNAMENT AWARD Sir David John Graham - who has been known for most of his rugby career as DJ or John - was born in Stratford and played for Auckland, Canterbury and New Zealand Universities before making his All Blacks debut in 1958. A vigorous loose forward, Graham played in 53 matches for the national side, including 22 Tests and was Captain for 10 matches. Following his retirement from playing, Graham was headmaster of Auckland Grammar, Manager of the Black Caps, Chancellor of Auckland University and President of New Zealand Rugby. Graham received a knighthood in 2011 for services to education and sport.
