Match Fit follows the experiences of a group of former ABs trying to get back in shape. Among others to take part in Saturday’s game were ex-All Blacks and brothers Rico and Hosea Gear — Hosea is the NPEC coach for this year’s Heartland Championship — and some “local legends”. The Classic ABs won the match 37-20. Picture by Paul Rickard The Gisborne Herald • Monday, August 16, 2021 NEWS 3 LET’S RIDE: Bikers wanted for first meth awareness run by Jack Malcolm A CALL has gone out for all bikers who want to make a public stand against meth. New Zealand ‘P’ Pull is hosting the first meth awareness run in November and it will travel up the East Coast. Organiser Tuta Ngarimu said he hopes to bring more awareness to the crisis in the community. “Gisborne is flooded with meth. We want awareness of the lack of resources for people who put their hands up. “The only thing we get is referrals from AOD (alcohol and other drug) clinicians. “When people put their hands up for help, and there’s no help for them, we as a community miss an opportunity.” There were many barriers when it came to seeking help for meth addiction and people were desperate for support. Gisborne also does not have enough beds for people to detox, Mr Ngarimu says. They constantly receive calls after all the spots are filled. Along the run route, riders will stop in Tolaga Bay, Tokomaru Bay and Ruatoria before ending their journey in Te Araroa. At each stop, guest speakers will share their experiences with meth and free resources will be provided by New Zealand ‘P’ Pull. A free barbecue lunch will be provided by Ngati Porou Hauora at Tokomaru Bay and the ride will finish with a hangi. Mr Ngarimu hopes to get at least 100 bikers out on the streets ‘who support this kaupapa and show they care about Tairawhiti”. He has already received offers of interest from riders and clubs across the CALL TO JOIN RIDE: Tuta Ngarimu (on bike) is organising a meth awareness motorcycle ride for November and has already country, including several car clubs. received offers of interest from riders and clubs across the country.
