Könnte mir auch vorstellen, dass Lauaki das verdient hätte, aber weiß nicht ob Messam und Latimer besser sind. P.S Was ist eigentlich die Iveco series? Vergiss den McCaw nicht! Er ist definitiv wichtiger als DC. Für mich ist er noch immer der beste Spieler der Welt. Andererseits sieht man nach der Verletzung von Carter und dem Abgang von Evans, dass die Decke der All Blacks an Verbindern relativ dünn ist, da man anscheinend Weepu als zweiten Verbinder neben Donald einsetzen möchte. Das McCaw im moment einer der besten, wenn nicht sogar der beste Spieler der Welt ist, darüber gibt es keine zwei Meinungen. Aber die Ausfälle von Carter und Sivvivatu wiegen trotzdem schwer, trotzdem haben sie eine gute Truppe in der Hintermannschaft, auch wenn ein erstklassiger Verbinder fehlt. Weißt du denn, wer vermutlich spielen wird? Ach so, alles klar.:) Ich hab ja auch So'oialo vergessen, der natürlich auch noch in der dritten Reihe fehlt.:P Auf der Verbinderposition wird die erste Wahl in den Junitests auf jeden Fall Stephen Donald sein. Allein schon, weil es sonst kein anderen etatmäßigen Verbinder gibt. Außerdem benötigt Henry einen guten Ersatz für Carter, deshalb glaube ich, dass man Donald notgedrungen viel vertrauen schenkt. Stellt sich nur noch die Frage, ob er es nutzen kann. Für Stephen Brett hat es nach Henry anscheinend nicht gereicht. Die Spiele, die ich gesehen habe, hat er mittelmäßig gespielt und viele Fehler gemacht, ausserdem ein Kickspiel unterhalb des internationalen Standards. Wurde ja auch als Kicker am Ende von MacDonand ersetzt und wirkte aus der Hand auch recht wackelig. Er ist ein guter Spieler, keine Frage, aber konnte sich neben Carter nicht behaupten und jetzt, wo dieser weg ist, die Chance nicht nutzen. Von daher finde ich es sinnvoll Slade die Chance zu geben, das Talent hat er, mal sehen ob er sich durchsetzten kann. Wer weiß was nächste Saison ist? Ein Toeava war letzte Saison auch nur Ersatz bei den Blues. Am Ende des Jahres war er wieder im Kader der All Blacks. Außerdem ist es ja erst der Kader für die Junitests. Interessant wird es, wenn die Junior All Blacks gespielt haben, die Junitests vorbei sind und der ANZ Cup beginnt. Mal gucken, wer dann im Kader für die Tri Nations steht. Aber für

    Forward momentum JIM TUCKER finds out what Taranaki rugby is doing to make more history: “It was the BBC - Brown, Briscoe and Carroll.” So began the front page story in the Taranaki Herald Sports Edition one Saturday in 1959. It was one of an endless string of puns the paper’s rugby writer used to chronicle extraordinary feats by Taranaki’s late-50s Ranfurly Shield holders. The monikers so playfully employed above – it could easily have been Burke, Boon and Cameron - are a distant memory for most of today’s generation. But they’re far from forgotten at Taranaki Football Rugby Union HQ in Yarrow Stadium. As the photograph of TRFU chief executive Mike Collins shows, that great team dominates one whole wall of the meeting room, and as the union gears up to repeat last year’s win in the ITM inter-provincial rugby competition, the names of Peter Burke, Ross Brown, Kevin Briscoe, Ralph Carroll and company resonate as never before. One reason is the current team already rivals the ‘59ers on at least one measure – the number of All Blacks in its ranks While Taranaki had six at various stages between 1957 and 1960, today’s team has five, with more in the offing.     All Blacks Balance World Cup Ledger The RWC final through the eyes of a Kiwi in Buenos Aires When the 1987 Rugby World Cup kicked off I was a recent graduate from Victoria University just starting my professional career as a management accountant with the Public Trust Office. I was at Athletic Park to watch the All Blacks convincing win over the Pumas and turned 22 the day the All Blacks beat Scotland in the quarter final. When David Kirk lifted the Webb Ellis Cup at Eden Park I, along with many other Kiwis, expected that our world domination would continue for ever. Twenty Four years later I’m a middle aged man whose hair is going grey. I’m living in Argentina and working as finance and admin manager for New York University’s Buenos Aires study away site. The All Blacks World Cup ledger stands unbalanced with just a single entry in the credit column dating back to 1987. It’s a 5.00am kickoff in Buenos Aires for the RWC final and the sun won’t be appearing for a while as with family and friends we drive down to NZ Ambassador Darryl Dunn’s apartment building in the recycled port district of Puerto Madero. It’s cool and windy as we head inside where an early breakfast of sandwiches, pastries, juice, tea and coffee awaits us. Unlike 24 years ago when I tucked into a plate of Chinese takeaways this time I’m too tense to eat so I chat to the other guests and am then one of the first to take a seat in the building’s 40 seat mini cinema.
