  • Charm City Junction Resume
Charm City Junction 831 W. 33rd Street Baltimore, MD 21211 Phone: 443-564-7713 E-Mail: [email protected] www.charmcityjunction.com About Charm City Junction Charm City Junction creates a fresh soundscape that keeps listeners on the edge of their seats wondering where they'll go next. The band is comprised of four of the most talented and promising acoustic roots musicians in the country. Patrick McAvinue, one of the most in-demand and highly respected bluegrass fiddlers in the country, takes charge with his virtuosic, powerful and musical approach to the fiddle. Clawhammer banjo wizard Brad Kolodner adds his playful, driving, melodic and groovy Old-Time touch. Sean McComiskey, an incredibly talented Irish button accordion player, soars through the tunes and fills the gaps with his soulful playing. The versatile bassist Alex Lacquement drives the train, locking everything together with his commanding and tasteful choices. Drawing from separate musical backgrounds, the four members have found a common ground on which to develop their unique approach. Charm City Junction embodies the essence of what acoustic roots music is all about, a shared and burning passion for blazing new trails while respecting the tradition. They are torchbearers with a clear message that the future of acoustic music is in good hands. "Baltimore-based roots group Charm City Junction puts a new spin on old-timey music, carrying the torch of fast-picking bluegrass and toe-tapping Celtic music. Featuring fiddle, clawhammer banjo, the button accordion and

  • Hollywood VFD to Host Annual Bluegrass Festival Fundraiser
Hollywood VFD to host annual bluegrass festival fundraiser Posted by Alan Van Wormer On 04/15/2018 HOLLYWOOD, Md. - The Hollywood Volunteer Rescue Squad will present its annual Bluegrass Festival on Saturday May 12, 2018 at the St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds. Gates open at 11 am and the show starts at Noon. Weather permitting, the event will be held outside. All proceeds from the day’s event will go toward the Hollywood Volunteer Rescue Squad Building Fund. “Honoring tradition through innovation”, that’s Audie Blaylocks (pictured right) motto. His mellow, wailing tenor and lightning-fast guitar picking have made him one of the names to watch in the world of traditional bluegrass. There’s something in a name; and Redline, the name of Audie Blaylock’s hot-shot band, could not be more fitting. Blaylock's vision for his sound involves an occasional glance in the rear view mirror, but with a heavy foot planted firmly on the accelerator, his music has a way of driving hard into the future. Audie Blaylock’s musical journey is a familiar one in bluegrass music, having grown up in an Appalachian musical family, his musical education started early and led to him sharing the stage with some of bluegrass’ finest and most respected artists, including first generation bluegrass character and giant, Jimmy Martin, as well as Red Allen, Harley Allen, Lynn Morris, Michael Cleveland, and Rhonda Vincent. Yet a true artist is never content in the passenger’s seat, and this is where Blaylock’s path diverges from the familiar, well-beaten path on this old mountain side.

  • CTBA Elects New Officers a Sneak Peek at 2016 Farmers Branch Fest
Volume 38, No. 2 © Central Texas Bluegrass Association February, 2016 CTBA Elects New Officers t the monthly board meeting on January 10, the CTBA board of directors met to discuss A business for 2016 and elect new officers, and if the new officers seem vaguely familiar, hey, you’re not imagining things. The office of president remains in the capable hands of Jamie Stubblefield. Jason Pratt returns as vice president (as I’ve pointed out before, his job is to wel- come visiting foreign dignitaries, and to take a bullet in case crazed banjo pickers attempt to assassinate the CTBA president). Alice Moore returns as secretary, and Lenny Nichols is taking over as treasurer from the departing Katherine Isgren. Mike Hurlbut will replace Lenny as membership chair. Most of the rest of the meeting was devoted to preliminary discussion of goals for 2016. No firm plans were laid yet, but it’s a pretty safe bet that we’ll have a 2016 RayFest this spring, a 2016 Band Scramble this summer, and a 2016 annual meeting next fall. Some discussion was devoted to the fact that the band scramble appears to already be outgrowing the Threadgill’s North venue, and we talked about possibly moving it to a larger space. We also talked briefly about maintaining contacts with Burnt Orange Bluegrass, the University of Texas bluegrass club. As for what other projects we might undertake this year, well, that’s still undecided, but stay tuned to your sizzling, crackling, crystal radio set. A Sneak Peek at 2016 Farmers Branch Fest he Earls of Leicester, Rhonda Vincent, Tim O’Brien, David Grisman, the Gibson T Brothers, the Travelin’ McCourys, the Band of Ruhks (just what is a ruhk, you ask? Beats me), Sister Sadie, Gold Heart.
