    MEDIA GUIDE VLADE DIVAC GENERAL MANAGER Vlade Divac Enters His Sixth Season at the Kings, His Fifth As General Manager

    2019-20 PRESEASON MEDIA GUIDE VLADE DIVAC GENERAL MANAGER Vlade Divac enters his sixth season at the Kings, his fifth as General Manager. He joined the Kings on March 3, 2015 as the team’s vice president of basketball and franchise operations and was named General Manager on August 31, 2015. One of the most respected and revered individuals in franchise history, Divac returns to Sacramento having spent more than a decade serving the NBA and international sporting communities with the same distinction that solidified his reputation as a consummate teammate, player, humanitarian and overall difference-maker on and off the basketball court. Divac has served in a variety of administrative and leadership roles since retiring from professional basketball in 2007. In addition to his philanthropic efforts focused on helping children in his native country and other reaches of the globe, he was named President of the Serbian Olympic Committee in 2009. Under his guidance, Serbian athletes have enjoyed greater success and the country is experiencing a resurgence on the international stage. In 16 NBA campaigns with Los Angeles, Charlotte and Sacramento, Divac averaged 11.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.4 blocks per game over 1,134 contests. He is only one of four players in league annals to accrue at least 13,000 points, 9,000 rebounds, 3,000 assists, 1,200 steals and 1,600 blocked shots, joining Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Hakeem Olajuwon and Kevin Garnett with that distinction. His six seasons in a Kings uniform marked the most successful period in team history, including a league-high 61 wins in 2001-02 and a trip to the Western Conference Finals.

WHEREAS, the members of this General Assembly are pleased to recognize a native son of Memphis who has returned to his alma mater to add to its rich basketball legacy; and WHEREAS, Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway, a college hoops legend at then Memphis State University whose name is synonymous with basketball in the Bluff City, has completed his first season as the head coach of the University of Memphis Tigers men's basketball team; and WHEREAS, even before he coached his first game at Memphis, Penny Hardaway's reputation and popularity reignited excitement among a fan base that was hungry for a consistent winner; when the Tigers actually began playing this season, his presence on the sideline bolstered attendance at the FedEx Forum; and WHEREAS, Coach Hardaway led Memphis to 22 wins, an 18-3 home record at the Forum, and a fifth-place finish in the American Athletic Conference (AAC) during the regular season; the Tigers then won two games in the AAC Tournament to reach the semifinals; and WHEREAS, qualifying for the postseason for the first time since 2014, Memphis destroyed San Diego in the National Invitation Tournament to advance to the second round; and WHEREAS, highlights of Memphis's initial season under Coach Hardaway include a double-overtime victory over Baylor, a huge road win against Wichita State, a sold-out game versus the University

    PAT WILLIAMS Pat Williams Is the Senior Vice President of the NBA’S Orlando Magic

    PAT WILLIAMS Pat Williams is the senior vice president of the NBA’s Orlando Magic. He is also one of America’s top motivational, inspirational, and humorous speakers. He has addressed employees from many of the Fortune 500 companies and the Million Dollar Round Table. He has been a featured speaker at two Billy Graham Crusades and two Peter Lowe Success Seminars. He has also spoken on many university campuses. After serving for seven years in the United States Army, Pat spent seven years in the Philadelphia Phillies organization, two as a minor league catcher and five in the front office. He then spent three years in the Minnesota Twins organization before moving to the National Basketball Association. Since 1968, he has been affiliated with teams in Chicago, Atlanta, Philadelphia, including the 1983 World Champion 76ers, and now the Orlando Magic which he co-founded in 1987 and helped lead to the NBA finals in 1995. Twenty- three of his teams have gone to the NBA play-offs and five of them have made the NBA finals. In 1996, Pat was named as one of the 50 most influential people in NBA history by a national publication. In his NBA career, he has traded Pete Maravich, traded for Julius Erving, Moses Malone, Penny Hardaway, and won four NBA draft lotteries, including back-to-back winners in 1992 and 1993 and most recently in 2004. He also drafted Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal, Maurice Cheeks, Andrew Toney and Darryl Dawkins and signed Billy Cunningham, Chuck Daly, and Matt Guokas to their first professional coaching contracts.
