This Ride Guide contains important information to help you make the most of Spring Cycle on Sunday October 13. Bicycle NSW wants people, no matter what bike they ride, to experience the thrill of riding across the Sydney Harbour Bridge maindeck car free and past some of Sydney’s most iconic landmarks. Spring Cycle is a day we can celebrate cycling and rediscover its joys by riding through Sydney and beyond on roads, paths and through parks you may never have crossed before. So let the fun begin! A note from Bicycle NSW As the peak advocacy body for NSW bike riders, we are proud to present Sydney’s largest recreational bike ride. Since 1976, we have been working, on behalf of our Members, to improve conditions and to create a better and safer environment for riding in our state. Bicycle NSW has a dedicated team that love bike riding and are committed to making bike riding an easier, safer and (even) more enjoyable activity. Alistair Ferguson, Executive Officer, Bicycle NSW A note from the Ride Director We are proud to once again partner with Bicycle NSW to present the 2019 Spring Cycle. This year, we are excited to have made changes to our existing 18km course, making it a 20km point-to-point course. These changes make the 20km course even more family friendly with one location to start and finish, and the opportunity to explore the beautiful parklands along the Parramatta River. In our other ride events, Spring Cycle remains as the only time of the year, riders are able to experience the thrill of riding across the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge’s main deck – car free! Fingers crossed for a warm Spring day this Sunday and we hope you enjoy the event. Happy riding! It became known as the Tank Stream. By 1811 it dams south of Sydney was hardly fit for drinking. Water was then drawn from wells or carted from a creek running into Rushcutter’s Bay. The Tank Stream was still the main water supply until 1826. In this whole-day tour by car you will see the major dams, canals and pipelines that provide water to Sydney. Some of these works still in use were built around 1880. The round trip tour from Sydney is around 350 km., all on good roads and motorway. The tour is through attractive countryside south Engines at Botany Pumping Station (demolished) of Sydney, and there are good picnic areas and playgrounds at the dam sites. source of supply. In 1854 work started on the Botany Swamps Scheme, which began to deliver water in 1858. The Scheme included a series of dams feeding a pumping station near the present Sydney Airport. A few fragments of the pumping station building remain and can be seen Tank stream in 1840, from a water-colour by beside General Holmes Drive. Water was pumped to two J. Skinner Prout reservoirs, at Crown Street (still in use) and Paddington (not in use though its remains still exist). The ponds known as Lachlan Swamp (now Centennial Park) only 3 km.

  • Submission on Future Transport 2056
1 SUBMISSION ON FUTURE TRANSPORT 2056 Greater Sydney Services & Infrastructure Plan Trunk Corridors An important corridor that is conspicuous by its absence, compared with previous transport studies, is a direct link between Macquarie Park and Parramatta. These are two of the largest strategic employment centres in the metropolitan area and it beggars belief that it’s not considered important enough to warrant inclusion as a major trunk route. Perhaps this is a consequence of the Greater Sydney Commission’s proposal to truncate the Global Economic Corridor Arc at Macquarie Park, instead of the previous strategy of extending it to Parramatta. A retrograde step in my view. Previous Metropolitan Planning Strategies had stressed the importance of investigating improved transport links between Macquarie Park and Parramatta, but this now appears to have slipped off the radar. This should be reinstated. Future Networks Initiatives for Investigation (10-20 Years) – South - East Mass Transit Link In addition to a South - East Mass Transit link, an extension of the Eastern Suburbs Railway should be investigated from Bondi Junction to North Bondi via Bondi Road, and Bondi Beach, with a branch to Bronte Beach via Charing Cross and Bronte. The potential capacity of the ESR is grossly underutilised and these extensions would assist in increasing patronage as well as relieving road congestion. 2 Parramatta to Epping/Macquarie Park Mass Transit Link The Parramatta to Epping Mass Transit link investigation should also include consideration of an alternative route from Parramatta to Macquarie Park via Eastwood. The focus on this corridor should be on a direct link between Parramatta and Macquarie Park, which will be the major trip generators.
