VISA APPLICATION (1). Introduction to the Student Visa Please be sure to apply for student visa (X visa) in order to study in China. The X Visa is classified into X1 and X2 Visa, X1 Visa is a long term convertible visa which must be converted to residence permit within 30 days of entry; X2 Visa is a short term non-convertible visa issued to those who intend to study in China for a period of no more than 180 days and are only entitled to one round trip within the specified period of study. Therefore, if you plan to study in China for a period of more than 180 days, you need to apply for the X1 visa (Residence permit); if you plan to study for a period of no more than 180 days, you need to apply for the X2 visa. X1 VISA X2 VISA (2). Requirements for Visa Application Please apply at the Chinese embassy in your home country with the following materials: a. Original and photocopy of International Passport (please ensure that your International passport is valid for more than 6 months and has a blank visa page); b. Original and photocopy of the Admission Notice issued by Tianjin University; c. Original and photocopy of "Visa Application Form for Study in China" (Form JW201 or Form JW202). Form JW201 is for scholarship students and Form JW202 is for self-paid students. WHAT TO BRING (1). Materials Required for Registration a. Original and photocopy of valid Passport and Visa (X1 or X2); b. Original and photocopy of the Admission Notice; c. Original copy of the “Visa Application Form for Study in China” (Form JW201 or JW202); d. Original and photocopy of highest degree certificate; e. 10 passport size photos; f. Registration fee, tuition, medical insurance fee, accommodation fee and other required fees; g. Original copy of “Foreigners’ Physical Examination Report” and blood test report (for students who plan to study in China for a period of more than 6 months). 2 Guidance for New Students toTianjin University (2). Other Recommended Items In addition to the materials to be submitted for registration, we recommend that you bring some other necessary items when you coming to China, for example: Electronics and Electrical Appliances: Laptop and accessories, change-over plug, transformer, and mobile power supply etc. (The standard electrical voltage in China is 220V, and the standard socket is as shown in the picture below). Bedding: Bed sheets, quilt cover, pillow case, blanket. Toiletries: slippers, bath towel, towel, toothbrush, toothpaste. Clothing: Spring/Summer (Maximum temperature in summer is 350c): Shirts, Shorts, Skirts, Jackets, Sandals, Sun hats, Sunglasses, etc. Autumn/Winter (Minimum temperature in winter is -100c): Down jacket, overcoat, sweater, cardigan, thick pants, cotton-padded shoes, gloves, scarf, etc. Medicines: Medicine to treat respiratory and digestive problems, Painkillers, Anti-inflammatory drugs, mosquito repellent, Body lotion, etc. Other electrical appliances and daily necessities can be bought in stores within Tianjin University campus or nearby. Suggestion: Daily necessities can be bought in Tianjin. If your budget is limited, you can opt for second hand items. Recommended website for purchase of Second-hand items: http://tj.58.com/;https://2.taobao.com/ Money: We strongly recommend that you make a budget of about 5000RMB to cover your living expenses (allowance, accommodation, food and transportation) for a month in Tianjin. Even if you are a scholarship student (Chinese Government scholarship, MOFCOM Scholarship, Confucius Institute scholarship, Tianjin Municipal Government Scholarship, Tianjin University Scholarship) and are subsidized by living allowance, we still recommend that you take some money for the first month, as scholarship is usually released after one month. 3 Guidance
