For Immediate Release FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Milwaukee rugby player joins USA Selects at the Americas Championship By Victor Drover October 14, 2014 Milwaukee, WI – The Milwaukee Barbarians Athletic Club today announced that Pewaukee native Ben Landry has been called up to join the USA Selects who are set to face Canada “A” and Uruguay in the Americas Rugby Championship (ARC). Due to an injury to starting lock Graham Harriman, twotime collegiate AllAmerican Landry received the call late Saturday night and was on a plane Sunday morning to join the US team at the championship in Victoria, British Columbia (Canada). Landry has been playing rugby since middle school in an amateur career extending through high school and college where he played for both UW Platteville and UW Whitewater. In 2013, he joined the collegiate All Americans — an allstar team sponsored by USA Rugby — on a tour of New Zealand. With both size and athleticism, Landry was successful at a number of other sports in college including basketball and football. Weighing in at 245 lbs with a 6’5” frame, Landry is a formidable presence in any rugby match. He currently plays club rugby with the Milwaukee Barbarians and has a starting lock position for the Division 1 side. In his six matches this season for the Barbarians, he has scored 3 times. Landry is the second Barbarian to receive attention from USA selectors. In February, Aaron Young was invited to an Eagles selection camp. Now with the USA Selects through Oct. 19th, Landry has begun training in Victoria and remains hopeful to be included on the 23man starting roster for Wednesday’s match against Canada. In August, Landry signed with Premier Rugby Management with the hope of finding a professional rugby contract overseas. Being selected for the USA Selects greatly increases Landry’s chances of playing for America’s top national team, the Eagles, and thus being viewed by international selectors. About Milwaukee Barbarians The Barbarians or 'Babas' is the premier club for rugby union in the state and was formed in 2012 through a strategic partnership between two local teams. As a member of USA Rugby, the Milwaukee rugby team competes at the highest level by fielding a Division 1 team in the Midwest regional competition where they are currently in 3rd place with a 420 record. The Barbarians also field a Division 3 team in the local WisconsinIllinois conference and are in second place with a 400 record. The Barbarians train and play their home games at Zablocki Park located at 3717 W Howard Ave, Greenfield, WI 53221. Their next Division 1 home game is Saturday, Oct. 18 at 1PM followed by a Division 1/Division 3 doubleheader on Oct. 25 at 12PM. More information on the Milwaukee Barbarians can be found online at http://milwaukeerugby.org. About the USA Eagles The United States men's national rugby union team, nicknamed the Eagles, represents the United States in the sport of rugby union. The national team is managed by USA Rugby, which is a member of the North American and Caribbean Rugby Association, one of six regional governing bodies under the International Rugby Board. The Eagles are the reigning Olympic champion in rugby, having won gold at the 1920 and 1924 Summer Olympics, and are currently ranked 18th in the world. Rugby has not been played at the Olympics since 1924, but makes a return in 2016 at the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. On Nov. 1, 2014, the Eagles will host the New Zealand All Blacks — the current world champions — at Soldier Field in Chicago. Only the very best players from the top American clubs are invited to join official Eagles selection and training camps. Invitations are usually based on performances in domestic Division 1 or premiership matches, and performances in the Americas Rugby Championship. More information can be found online at http://usarugby.org. About the Americas Rugby Championship The Americas Rugby Championship is an annual rugby event typically held at Westhills Stadium in Victoria, British Columbia (Canada). Four teams participate in the championship: USA Selects, Canada “A”, Argentina Jaguars and Uruguay. For the U.S., Canada, and Argentina, the tournament presents an opportunity to evaluate fringe players in very competitive matches. In the 2014 championship, the USA Selects lost their first match 4114 to fourtime champions Argentina. The USA has 2 matches remaining: Canada on October 15 (11:00 PM EST) and Uruguay on October 19 (5:30 PM EST). EMBARGOED UNTIL 9am GMT, 5 April 2011 ECONOMIC IMPACT REPORT ON GLOBAL RUGBY PART III: STRATEGIC AND EMERGING MARKETS Commissioned by MasterCard Worldwide Researched and prepared by the Centre for the International Business of Sport Coventry University Dr Simon Chadwick Professor of Sport Business Strategy and Marketing Dr. Anna Semens Research Fellow Dr. Eric C. Schwarz, Department of Sport Business and International Tourism School of Business Saint Leo University Dan Zhang, Sport Business Consultant March 2010 1 Economic Impact Report on Global Rugby, Part III: Strategic and Emerging Markets EMBARGOED UNTIL 9am GMT, 5 April 2011 Highlights More than 5 million people play rugby in over 117 countries. Participation in rugby worldwide has increased 19% since the last Rugby World Cup in 2007. Participation figures are highest in Europe, but there are significant numbers of players elsewhere, with increasing numbers in emerging markets. Since 2007 participation has grown by 33% in Africa, 22% in South America and 18% in Asia and North America. In terms of participation, Japan, Sri Lanka and Argentina now feature in the top ten countries, which bodes well as there is a strong, positive correlation between participation and performance. These unprecedented levels of growth can be attributed to three main factors: o Developments in non-traditional game formats, particularly Sevens Rugby’s inclusion in the Olympic program from 2016. o Event hosting strategies often with linked legacy programs. o IRB programs and investment. £153 million (USD245.6 million) is being invested from 2009 to 2012, an increase of 20% over the previous funding cycle. Introduction Following Six Nations and Tri Nations reports, MasterCard commissioned the Centre for the International Business of Sport (CIBS) to look at rugby in emerging markets.

TABLE OF CONTENTS Letter from the President 2 United States Roster 6-7 Scotland Roster 9-10 ‘Til the Motor Stops 13 An American Sporting Experience 22 Thank you to our sponsors 27 LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston for tonight’s international game between the USA Eagles and Scotland. Once again we are expecting a warm Texas welcome for our visitors from Scotland and a superb day of rugby for everyone involved. Since the Eagles were last in Houston, they have been developing as a team, recording an impressive November Tour in 2013 where they ran the New Zealand Maori All Blacks close in Philadelphia before recording important wins against Georgia and Russia abroad. They then faced World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay and we were all delighted for Coach Mike Tolkin and his team when they qualified for the 2015 Rugby World Cup. The significance of tonight’s game is that in just over 12 months time, Scotland and the Eagles will be meeting again in the 2015 Rugby World Cup pool, a chance tonight perhaps for both teams to start their preparations for what will be a very important pool game in Leeds, England on September 27, 2015. Our visitors from Scotland are currently ranked 10 in the World rankings, they had a disappointing RBS Six Nations tournament this year, but with a new coaching team led by former Clermont coach Verne Cotter, the Eagles know they are in for a severe test of their credentials tonight.

2017 TRU Hall of Fame Celebration Charles L. Erhardt started playing rugby with the Houston RFC in 1969 when he was a law student at University of Houston. Chuck was an avid and enthusiastic player, and began refereeing with enthusiasm that drove him to the very top of that endeavor not only in Texas but also within the Western RFU and beyond. Chuck was eulogized by all the major refereeing organizations upon his recent and sudden demise in October 2014. Lee was involved in rugby for 20 plus years. His major contributions to Texas Rugby were as a club founder, coach and administrator. He was among a group of pioneers that help expand rugby in Texas that ultimately led to the formation of the TRU. In 1962 Lee started his rugby career as a player for the St. Louis Bombers. In the mid-1960's he moved to Houston and in 1969 he help formed the Houston Rugby Club along with Gail Tennant, Wayne Baxter, and Jim Savage. A club that still exists today after it merged with the Houston Old Boys. In 1972 Lee broke off Houston Rugby Club to form the Houston Old Boys. A club that became one of the TRU powerhouses that won many tournaments and TRU Championships. Lee coached many players who would go on to play for the TRU, Western RFU and the USA Eagles. He was the coach of Barry Waite, Texas HOF member, who was the first TRU play to player for the Eagles against France in 1976. In 1973 Lee was selected by the TRU to be the first select side coach and led the team to a near victory against the Impala Rugby Club from Nairobi, Kenya.

Fair Play The Story of Rugby at the Olympics The Rugby and Olympic values Which Rugby and Olympic values are the same or similar? Is Rugby a good fit with the Olympics? Did you know Rugby has been at five Olympics? Rugby at the 1900 Olympics in Paris Three teams competed in the Rugby tournament. A French representative team defeated a team from the German city of Frankfurt and Moseley Wanderers from England. The Moseley team had played a full game of Rugby in England the day before they made the journey to Paris. They arrived in the morning, played the match in the afternoon and were back in their home country by the next morning. The proposed game between the British and German sides was cancelled and both are credited as silver medalists. The Franco-Haitian centre Constantin Henriquez de Zubiera became the first black gold medalist. Three months earlier he had competed in the tug of war. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1900_Summer_Olympics Rugby at the 1908 Olympics in London The host Great Britain was represented by Cornwall, the 1908 county champion. Defending Olympic champions France withdrew, leaving Australasia, represented by the Australia national Rugby union team as the only other remaining entrant. The interest in the Olympic Rugby final was only lukewarm with the final being held in the last week of Games that had taken place over six months. In 1908 Twickenham Stadium was still being built. The match was played at the White City Stadium, London, on an area alongside the Olympic Games swimming pool which measured 110 yards in length with a long line of netting stretched beside to catch flying balls.

ATHLETES BEHAVING BADLY TEAM IDENTIFICATION AND THE OFF-FIELD BEHAVIOUR OF ATHLETES: EFFECT ON CONSUMER INTENTION IN TRADITIONAL AND NON-TRADITIONAL SPORTING CONTEXTS Benjamin Tarr Bachelor of Business Management Submitted in fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Philosophy School of Advertising, Marketing and Public Relations QUT Business School Queensland University of Technology 2020 Supervisory Team: Professor Larry Neale (Principal Supervisor) Associate Investigator and Principal Supervisor Director of Studies at the QUT Business School [email protected] Dr. Louise Kelly (Supervisor) Associate Investigator and Supervisor Senior Lecturer at QUT [email protected] Keywords Consumer Evaluations, Established Professional Sport, New Teams and Leagues, Sport Fan Behaviour, New Sporting Teams, Non-traditional Professional Sport, Off- Field Athlete Behaviour, Team Identification, Professional Sport Across Contexts, Athletes Behaving Badly Team Identification and the Off-field Behaviour of Athletes: Effect on Consumer Intention in Traditional and Non-traditional Sporting Contexts i Abstract Off-field behaviour by athletes has tended to attract significant attention from the press, fans, marketers and researchers. To date, academic research has primarily been confined to traditional sports and limited to off-field occurrences. This study questions whether fans react differently to off-field athlete behaviour based on their support for traditional or non-traditional sporting teams. Established professional leagues and teams are referred to as ‘traditional’, verses newer leagues and teams, often within regions where the sport does not have a traditional footprint, being referred to as ‘non- traditional’. The research extends team identification and social identity theory literature around how athlete behaviour interacts with team identification and consumer intentions on a comparative basis, in traditional and non-traditional sport settings.
