Self-Guided Discovery Visit Daily May 6 to Sept. 7 • Wednesday to Sunday Sept. 9 to 20 • 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Take your class to Upper Canada Village, an exceptional real-life 19th century environment which fosters active participation, stimulates curiosity, and critical thinking. The Village provides a unique field study opportunity for students to gather information and formulate questions, and to compare their lives with life in the 1800s. Your students will interact directly with costumed staff and hear about the role of women, men and children, and how they dealt with challenges like food, shelter, clothing, work and transportation. Grade 3 Special Activity Days Medieval Monday – A Day in the Life of an Early Society Tuesdays and Wednesdays, May 12 & 13, 19 & 20 and June 2 & 3 Monday, June 8 - full day Explore life in the 1860s while taking advantage of a series of integrated Broaden students’ awareness of the history learning activity centres tailored specifically to the Social Studies, English, and culture of early societies through a full Mathematics and Science & Technology strands of the Grade 3 Ontario day of discovery and action-packed fun at Curriculum. Village Overnight Live-In Adventure* May 6-8, 11-15, 26-29, and June 1-19 (primarily offered Monday to Friday; weekend program possible if space allows) Sept. 9-13 and 16-20 (Wednesday to Sunday) Day-Time Adventure* May 19 – 22 Immerse yourself in the past for a day! The Live-In Adventure is a unique opportunity to experience everyday life in the19th century. Under the guidance of Village staff, students are outfitted with authentic period clothes and introduced to integrated learning activities such as baking over an open hearth, tinsmithing, sewing and blacksmithing. They milk cows, help with farm chores, and attend a one-room school house. The overnight program begins at 1 p.m. and finishes at 11 a.m. the next day. For schools or groups who are unable to spend the night, Upper Canada Village now offers a day version of the Live-In from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. A comprehensive Teacher’s Guide with menu suggestions, evening activities and pre-trip/post-trip ideas is included.
