Street: the Human Clay Free FREE STREET: THE HUMAN CLAY PDF Lee Friedlander | 217 pages | 15 Nov 2016 | Yale University Press | 9780300221770 | English | New Haven, United States Human Clay | Gateway Center Human Clay is the second studio album by American rock band Creedreleased on September 28, through Wind-up Records. Produced by Street: The Human Clay Kurzwegit was the band's last album to feature Brian Marshallwho left the band in Augustuntil 's Full Circle. The album earned mixed to positive reviews from critics and was a massive commercial success, peaking at number one on the US Billboard and staying there for two weeks. The album spawned two singles Street: The Human Clay peaked in the top 10 of the Street: The Human Clay Hot : " Higher ", which peaked at number 7, and " With Arms Wide Open ", their only number one single. The album sold over Human Clay is the only Creed album to not have a title track. According to Mark Tremontithe album cover represents a crossroad which every man finds himself at in his life and the man of clay represented "our actions, that what we are is up to us, that we lead our own path and make our own destiny. During the summer ofbassist Brian Marshall began a spiral Street: The Human Clay alcoholism and addiction. While under the influence, Marshall threatened to beat up Tremonti, began missing band obligations, and attacking Stapp both verbally and online. The band had a meeting with management to discuss Marshall's future. Stapp and Tremonti supported Marshall going to rehab and attempted to talk Marshall into going, but at that point, Marshall was too far gone to recognize he needed help. Brett Hestla of Virgos Merlot was initially contacted to "fill in" while Marshall went to rehab, but that never happened. Initially, the public thought Marshall was let go because he criticized Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder in a radio interview with KNDD in Juneclaiming that Scott Stapp is a better songwriter, and criticized Pearl Jam's recent albums for "having songs without hooks. I ask you all not to judge Creed as a band, because the statements made were not the band's feelings, they were Brian's. I'm sorry if Brian offended anyone, and he has already apologized for his comments. Tremonti and Stapp were concerned for Marshall and their collective friendships, but soon after the controversy, Marshall formed a new band called Grand Luxx with his old Mattox Creed band mates. Marshall was temporarily replaced by touring bassist Hestla. Marshall later reunited with the band in The album received mixed to positive reviews from critics. Allmusic 's Stephen Thomas Erlewine gave the album 4 stars out of 5, concluding that "it may not be the kind of thing that knocks out critics or grunge purists, but Street: The Human Clay does deliver for anyone looking for direct, grunge-flavored hard rock. The album was the band's first to hit number one in the US, where it debuted with first week sales of , and stayed on top for two weeks. Adorno INTRODUCTION: IN QUEST OF A NEWER MUSICOLOGY Sixty years after its original publication, Max Horkheimer and Theo- dor W. Adorno’s Dialektic der Aufklärung resonates uncannily with our times. The central motifs of their bleak and horrifying diagnosis of the culture industry ring as true today as ever. While contemporary critics mostly regard Horkheimer and Adorno’s analysis of audience demand and reception dynamics as antiquated, this essay argues for the continued relevance of their indictment of culture under the (oppressive) authority of monopoly capital. In particular, the essay traces an emergent Schulterschluss between commercial and political power, with a special interest in the involvement of the music indus- try and the media conglomerates. This is not to say that contem- porary America operates under identical rules and constraints as the America of the 1940s. It does not. Nor is it to argue that capitalist America essentially approximates fascism, as Horkheimer and Adorno sometimes imply. The opening arguments of “The Culture Industry: Enlightenment as Mass Deception,” for example, are predicated on this fundamental similarity: “Even the aesthetic activities of political opposites are one in their enthusiastic obedience to the rhythm of the iron system. The decorative industrial management of buildings and exhibition centers in authoritarian countries are much the same as anywhere else” (1997, 120).

Over recent decades there has been growing appreciation that the prime involvement of clay minerals in the geochemical cycling of elements and pedosphere genesis should take into account the biogeochemical activity of microorganisms. Microbial intimate interaction with clay minerals, that has taken place on Earth’s surface in a geological time-scale, represents a complex co-evolving system which is challenging to comprehend because of fragmented information and requires coordinated efforts from both clay scientists and microbiologists. This review covers some important aspects of the interactions of clay minerals with microorganisms at the different levels of complexity, starting from organic molecules, individual and aggregated microbial cells, fungal and bacterial symbioses with photosynthetic organisms, pedosphere, up to environmental and biotechnological implications. The review attempts to systematize our current general understanding of the processes of biogeochemical transformation of clay minerals by microorganisms. This paper also highlights some microbiological and biotechnological perspectives of the practical application of clay minerals–microbes interactions not only in microbial bioremediation and biodegradation of pollutants but also in areas related to agronomy and human and animal health.
