KAEDAH PEROLEHAN RANCANGAN TELEVISYEN DI RTM: ISU DAN CABARAN SYARIKAT PRODUKSI TEMPATAN Arizah Jamil, Zairul Anuar Md. Gendang Alam, Jilid 6, 2016 ABSTRACT Since 1984, RTM through the Procurement Unit Plan has set a number of conditions and methods to the suppliers design or production companies who want to market and sell their television program on TV1, TV2 and TVi.

As part of the everyday life of the community, television provides a community-driven medium to construct its identity. In relation to the existence of mass media in the community and the issue of forming a national identity, there are unique problems that exist in the Sebatik Island of the Indonesian and Malaysian frontiers. These Indonesian people have no access to the broadcasting media, especially television, from Indonesia. This situation has persisted for several years, so the citizens of Sebatik Island use television broadcasts from Malaysia as their primary source of media communication. This study aims to examine how the people of Sebatik Island construct their national identity through the Malaysian television programs they watch daily. The methodology used in this study is ethnography with data collection techniques through observation and interviews of eight informants in September 2017. The result shows that the “mixed national identity” of Sebatik society is infl uenced by various factors and one of them is Malaysian television. Malaysian television programs also play a role as a socialization agent, among with other agents such as the presence of the community, the country, the organization, the culture, and the ideology.

The impact of the Islamic Resurgence has been deep-rooted in the Malays at all levels of the society. Norman Yusoff Kala Malum Bulan Mengambang - 'Noir' Parody with a Satirical Edge? Mamat Khalid's Kala Malam Bulan Mengambang (2008), which focuses upon an intriguing story of an investigative journalist having to confront mysterious disappearances, conspiracies and ghostly presence is a rambunctious black-and-white send-up of (Hollywood) film noir. The film is a strikingly self-reflexive display of generic possibilities as cultural performance, for it flaunts an intertextual style, consciously showcasing its production process, and constantly 'quotes' from other cultural texts. This essay argues that Kala Malam Bulan Mengambang works as both a parody and a satire. As a parody, the film's target is concerned with formal and aesthetic elements. Mamat deftly interweaves a melange of film genres, ranging from Hollywood noir to old Malay horror. As a satire, the film is comedy with an edge, with its target being social and political in some way. Within its narrative, the film pokes fun at contemporary Malaysian society and politics in a subtle, underlying manner, thus providing the viewer with a fascinating subtext. By exploring the film's generic discursivities in terms of Mamat's parodic strategy and satirical mode, the ultimate aim of this essay is to sanction a more appropriate generic label for the film. Kala Malam Bulan Mengambang (2008, lit. When the Full Moon Rises) remains the only local film in 2008 which has spawned a host of relentless reactions and debates, albeit the lukewarm response it received among local moviegoers upon its release.1 Perhaps one of the most fascinating issues surrounding its reception is its generic approach employed by the director Mamat Khalid; this includes its attempt at being filmed in black and white.

No legal action over slap incident, says director David Teo Free Malaysia Today May 18, 2017 Sulaiman Yassin speaks up over altercation in the presence of Prime Minister Najib Razak, saying he needed to teach director Teo a lesson in manners. PETALING JAYA: Film and TV director David Teo says he will not be taking any legal action against actor/comedian Sulaiman Yassin who slapped him during the National Transformation 2050 (TN50) dialogue event in Seri Perdana, last night, Harian Metro reported. The whole scene, like from a TV drama, unfolded in the presence of Prime Minister Najib Razak, who was hosting the dialogue with award-winning actor Rosyam Nor as the moderator. “I was just asking Rosyam about his use of the round stage, and the focus he was giving to only those seated in front. I also wanted to ask the prime minister some questions. “But all of a sudden, he (Sulaiman) rushed over and slapped me,” Teo was quoted as saying by the Bahasa Malaysia daily, adding that it was unexpected too because he did not know the actor-comedian personally. “I will not be taking any legal action against Sulaiman and have also forgiven him for his actions,” he added. Though both industry veterans later made up in front of Najib and Rosyam, shaking hands and apologising for their actions, Sulaiman seemed confident he was right in what he had done. “I don’t think what I did was too extreme because it was done to teach him some manners. I did it mainly because we were in the presence of our leader who was hosting the event.
