As such, the exhibition builds on the input of Tyrolean educational institutions, in which children and young people will develop modern approaches concerning the exhibiti- on themes in their classes. Students will research the historical cultural exchange between Orient and Occident by referencing present developments in this cultural contact zone. This process will reveal the transformation of the term »pirate« as well as the perception of pirates as »heroes« by different media, such as lite- rature, film, and the visual arts.

The special exhibition Pirates and Slaves in the Mediterranean will take place as part of the Innsbrucker Kultursommer.
