2021 PARTICIPANT INSTRUCTIONS WELCOME

Hello and welcome to the 52nd Running of the Journal-Constitution Peachtree Road Race! On behalf of Atlanta Track Club, we are excited to have you join us as we celebrate this Atlanta tradition. Atlanta Track Club, our event sponsors, our organizing committee, the City of Atlanta, and more than 3,500 dedicated volunteers are look- ing forward to making this year’s event unforgettable for all participants. Since the cancellation of the in-person run- ning of the Peachtree in 2020, we have been working closely with the mayor’s office of emergency management, the city’s police and fire departments, Fulton County Emergency Management Agency, emergency medical service units, and other health and safety organizations to establish race guidelines and procedures related to Covid-19, weather, and other possible issues to ensure a safe event for all. We ask that you pay close attention to our Event Alert System, which is a color-coded flag system located at the start line and at hydration stations along the course and the finish. We ask all participants to respect our mask requirement in the start and finish line areas and remind you that no mask is required during the race itself. All of us at Atlanta Track Club wish you well on the remainder of your training and we look forward to seeing you at the event!

Be safe,

Rich Kenah Race Director

2 RACE NUMBERS

TIMING Participants in the in-person 2021 Atlanta Journal-Constitution Peachtree Road Race will be timed using the ChronoTrack B-Tag timing system. The lightweight timing tags are attached to the back of your race number and should not be removed. Do not bend or fold your race number, as the timing device may become inactive. The B-tag records each participant’s time as they cross the start line, and their net finish time is calculated when the participant crosses the finish line. To be included in official results, you must cross over the start, 5K and finish line timing mats. Those who do not register all three of these times will be disqualified and excluded from official results. Do not wear layers, such as a fuel belt, over your bib and do not wear your bib on your back, as this can cause your timing tag to not be read. Wearing your bib improperly could result in improper scoring and possible disqualification.

18 SAFETY & SECURITY

Safety is Atlanta Track Club’s top priority. With the help of the City of Atlanta and other local, regional and national agencies, we have done extensive planning to ensure the safety of our participants, spectators, volunteers and partners. We would like everyone to be aware of some of the actions we are taking and call out some simple things participants, volunteers and spectators can do to help make the 52nd Running of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Peachtree Road Race a great, safe event.

There will be a substantial law enforcement presence at the start, along the course, at the finish line and in the post event area. Several restricted areas are located at the start around Lenox Square and at the finish line in Piedmont Park – please plan accordingly by allowing yourself ample time to travel to the start line. Also familiarize yourself with the prohibited items list as persons with any of these items will not be admitted into a start corral.

Designated exit points will be in place around the Piedmont Park finish area. No spectators are allowed in Piedmont Park. We ask that you leave bags and other extra items at home to expedite movement throughout the day.

Remember: See something, say something. Be vigilant. If you see something suspicious, contact the nearest police officer or call 911 .

EVENT ALERT SYSTEM (EAS) Event Alert System signs will be located at the start line, along the course at the hydration stations and in the finish area. The signs will communicate the specific alert level, which could range from low (green) to moderate (yellow) to high (red) to cancelled (black), and are based primarily on weather conditions.

19 SUSTAINABILITY

Atlanta Track Club has committed to implementing green initiatives that reduce waste, promote sustainable and responsible consumption and support the local community of Atlanta. At the 50th Running of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Peachtree Road Race, the Club recycled more than one ton of plastic water bottles through the Green Initiative. This year at the 52nd Run- ning of the Peachtree, we are committed to continuing our sustainability work.

Due to COVID-19 safety precautions, we have to transition from plastic cups filled with water on the course to relying solely on Dasani plastic water bottles- that means close to 150,000 bottles.

With your help we know we can recycle this plastic and make sure the Peachtree isn’t just red, white and blue, but also green!

HOW YOU CAN HELP • Peachtree Health & Fitness Expo presented by Publix: The Georgia World Congress Center, home of the Expo, is the largest LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified convention center in the U.S. We are working with them to recycle Expo waste and receive specific data of waste diverted from the landfill. • Carpool: Participants are encouraged to carpool or use a rideshare company to get to and from the Peachtree Health & Fitness Expo. • Public Transportation: Atlanta Track Club is proud to partner with MARTA in order to accommodate participants for the Expo and on race day. Reference the MARTA section for detailed info. • Know Before You Throw: The Dasani plastic water bottles in the start area and along the course are recyclable. A variety of Coca-Cola products can be found at the finish line. Empty your can or bottle of all liquid before tossing it in the recycling receptacles.
