    IIPPE Conference 2017 Travel directions The Conference will take place at the Berlin School of Economics and Law, Badensche Strasse 50-51, 10825 Berlin. This is close to the underground station Bayerische Platz on the line U7. The NH City West Hotel and several of the other listed hotels are close to the underground station Berliner Strasse, which is also on the line U7. The arcana hotel / hostel is between the stations Bayerische Platz and Eisenacher Strasse, both on line U7. Details are shown on the map. Tegel Airport arrivals Tegel is Berlin’s main airport, where most flights arrive. It is close to the centre of West Berlin. To get into town you need to leave the airport by bus. The bus stop is in front of Terminal A (for those arriving at Terminal A, it is built as a circle with the exit between gates 1 and 15). Tickets are available (1) at a window on the right-hand side of the main exit from Terminal A, (2) at a machine by the bus, or (3) from the driver. If you buy from the machine you need a ticket for zones A+B. A single ticket is valid for one journey of 2 hours, and costs €2.80. A day ticket (not available on the bus) costs €7.00. You have to stamp the ticket before getting on the bus, or on entering the bus for it to be valid. You should get on bus 109, or the express version X9 You then have a number of alternatives: (a) You could get off the bus at the first underground station (Jakob-Kaiser Platz).

ABSTRACT The landscapes and material remains of the Holocaust survive in various forms as physical reminders of the suffering and persecution of this period in European history. However, whilst clearly defined historical narratives exist, many of the archaeological remnants of these sites remain ill-defined, unrecorded and even, in some cases, unlocated. Such a situation has arisen as a result of a number of political, social, ethical and religious factors which, coupled with the scale of the crimes, has often inhibited systematic search. This thesis will outline how a non- invasive archaeological methodology has been implemented at two case study sites, with such issues at its core, thus allowing them to be addressed in terms of their scientific and historical value, whilst acknowledging their commemorative and religious significance.

    Geschichtliches zum Strandbad Wannsee Wie alles begann Nach dem Deutsch-Französischen Krieg wird 1871 Berlin die Residenz des Deutschen Kaisers und Reichshauptstadt, die Einwohnerzahl übersteigt 800.000. Der einsetzende Aufschwung durch das Geld aus den französischen Repara- tionen (5 Mrd. Goldfranken) wurde genutzt, um den Vor- sprung der anderen europäischen Nationen auf dem Gebiet der Industrialisierung aufzuholen. Immer mehr Menschen kamen nach Berlin, denn hier gab es Arbeit in Hülle und Fülle. Im Jahr 1900 hat Berlin fast 1,9 Millionen Einwohner; unter Einschluss der 23 Vororte leben insgesamt 2,5 Millionen Menschen im unmittelbaren Einzugsbereich der Stadt. Laut einer "Wohnungs-Enquête" von 1903 ist Berlin die größte Mietskasernenstadt der Welt: Eine Million Wohnungen, da- von 400.000 mit nur einem Raum und weitere 300.000 mit zwei Räumen. Unter diesen unwürdigen Wohnbedingungen zieht es die Berliner in Ihrer Freizeit hinaus in die Natur an die schönen Seen - wie auch den Wannsee. Doch halt - da war ja noch die Moral jener Zeit - prüde bis zum Abwinken. So begann der Badebetrieb vor den Toren der großen Stadt heimlich, still und leise, um ja die Pickelhau- ben-Obrigkeit der Jahrhundertwende nicht aufmerksam zu ma- chen. Es galt zu jener Zeit als äußerst unmoralisch, im Freien zu baden, und vielleicht die Damen und Herren noch auf Sichtweite. Und wer erwischt wurde, musste Strafe zahlen, wie hier auf dem Bild immerhin 5 Mark. Immer mehr bevölkerten die sonnenhungrigen Berliner in der Badezeit die Ufer des Wannsees. Sie fuhren zwar auch an die anderen Seen, aber das Ostufer des Großen Wannsee zog Hunderttausende an. Mit seinem ganz allmählich abfallenden Sandboden gab es einen vorzüglichen Badestrand.
